The Observer
Many people have said this. I'm sure that you have witnessed it yourself. People saying that RuneScape sucks and is a game for nerds, etc. What I'm asking is why people are thinking this way towards the game. I think that people are just too lazy to work for their levels and prefer games that have cheat codes. What do you think? It's not. I'm no nerd, I have a lot of friend and I'm one of those people who can hang out with the jocks, the nerds, the stoners, etc.. And I play RS. But I wouldn't go around talking about it at school. I mean come on... That's cool, but that really isn't the point of the thread. :-s
aznmidget448
Are those the Drake and Josh nerds? :-k No.. both of them are not black haired. OT: Well it really depends what you do in Runescape Lol, King, I was thinking the same thing :) People call us nerds because we spend countless hours playing RS when real life is passing us. This is why I keep my playing a secret. I don't want to become a social outcast
bbjoe282
this just another sterotype that goes along with anything that has to do with technology and personally i dont think that this is true becuase along with all the rl people who i know who play this game along with myself are all fit people who enjoy playing sports and being outdoors. BlueLancer
They're very smart for not choosing a game where you have to work for levels. Why should you work in a game? Jagex needs to make RS a bit less grind-based and add some more (challenging) quests (that... actually take skill) with nice XP rewards. Many games are already realizing that, and moving towards that direction. Runescape, too, has long passed the stage where it was just a game where you kill a monster, repeat, and eat a fish, ad infinitum.. But it's pretty hard to develop a level-based MMORPG with no repetition whatsoever. It would take huge financial investments to have a team ready to develop new maps, quests, and tasks for every level and skill, (and add fresh content every few weeks) rather than taking the easy way and slapping a few demons here and there to kill for strength, cook a fish 600,000 times to achieve level 99 cooking etc. Because after all, companies are in it for the money, not the enjoyable gameplay their business presents. fakeitormakeit
I'm a quite popular person at school and I have many friends, I go out on weekends, and I'm smart but if I ever say I play runescape its like... *silence*. I really don't care, I play here and there and its what I do, up theirs if they're going to be jerks about it.
icecube
It probably has to do with the fact you spend thousands of hours reclusely sitting on a chair watching at a screen. Yeah, it might have something to do with that. :-w
Embraced
Who cares? Very silly if you do. P2P offers more and better ways of making money than f2p. That's one of the cons you just have to play with if you don't feel like having 1 bigmac meal less per month.
Kingvictorr
Hmmmmmm.....they say its a game for nerds because it takes a lot of effort and thinking to become good in it. Hundreds and even thousands of hours are required to become successful in he game. This days, people want games they can beat in a week or two. Its also takes some amount of intelligence to play Runescape. Don't listen to them....being a nerd today is actually cool. You used to be a nerd 20+ years ago if you played video games....think about it.... Im a nerd lol but i am a popular guy with many good friends, and the ladies ask me if im single quite a bit, (no brag intended), and people think im a hilarious and awesome guy to hang out with. Don't listen to the haters, as long as you have a life, and most people think your cool to be with, don't pay attention to them. Do what you love to do man, and most chicks love smart and funny guys too  Laughter is often the best medicine...so laugh!

darkmage099
Pretty much everything posted on here is true. But above all its just a stereotype that intelligent people happen to be the best at the game (notice i don't include the stupid mass noob population in this 8-) ) I'd probably qualify as a "nerd" but i couldn't care less. I love my life, and think I'm much better off than some "jock". Nerds have social lives too =.= just not ones filled with idiotic behavior. "Jock" social life is not idiotic. You should try it some day, before you go off writing it off as stupid. RS requires very little intelligence. Responding to the topic: Because people use the words "owned", "narb", and "lollerskates" with much frequency. Learn to read pl0x, because I didn't criticize their social lives specifically. FYI I have tried it out, and much prefer having brains instead of just living for the day. Anddd...Intelligent people naturally have a higher capability for monotonous repetitive behaviour like studying (and RS), and are capable of dedicating themselves to a worthwhile cause. EDIT: Lawl, I guess I kinda did specifically target their social lives #-o I still stand by what I've written tho. Are you implying all jocks are stupid and all "nerds"/runescape players are smart? It seems like you are and this makes you, sir, an idiot. Because it is an inferior way of socializing. Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar! jemathonical
Eh I can always laugh at them when there failing high school/collage So playing Runescape/any online game means that you won't fail school? Maybe the people who call Runescapers nerds are the ones that instead of playing Runescape, they study and get good grades. ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it! Kingvictorr
Actually Runescape has a good collection of "smart people". Most people who play runescape probably get good grades, ,( i know i do), because Runescape is one of those games that enriches your mind. Nerd is a stereotype...you can be an intelligent guy and still have a social life too. Playing runescape, and playing a playstation or xbox game both require the player to sit in front of a screen for hours at a time, so why are runscapers considers nerds, while console video gamers are not? hmmm......i say Laughter is often the best medicine...so laugh! Jeffery
My mate didn't like rs as there was no end to the game (altho there is just takes a hell of a long time) I can't see why people call it nerdy =/ It's just like habbo hotel which all the girls play while most of the boys play rs 180th to 99 Divination + 1st W36er Rambo, cannot pk call your friends bro :). Wait nevermind none of SAPK/PKS can. Kappa.
Lt_Surge
Well, the whole nerd thing is a stereotype. They think us 'Scapers have no life, but I have many friends, I have a girlfriend (I love that girl ), hell, I even teach martial arts (people make fun of that, too... Maybe it's because I can snap their spine [a spine is weaker than 6 or so inches of solid concrete, correct?]?)! So really, they simply think they have a life, and that they do... But I probably have more of a life than them. When I see people say it, I pronounce it "poon" in my head. Makes more sense to me. My friend said it in real life once and I almost kneed him in the family-maker.$DO || ! $DO ; trytry: command not found
Orpheus
Mostly what everyone says is that of the average underinformed, ignorant, and stereotypical "jock" or preteen. Seriously, ask them why they make fun of the game, most won't have a VALID reason anyhow. I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. Death_Hippy
Anything in life that requires a bit of time, dedication and thought is considered nerdy by thoose kind of people. It's a fact of life. They just want to mash buttons, hence why they go on to fail their education and work in call centres, fast food joints or office workers for the rest of thier days then moan about how society is keeping them down. While really its because they are too self-invovled to see its their own flaw. Personally I'd rather be a "nerd" and achieve great things (not necessarily fame worthy things or uber riches, but ya know) than be "cool" and fail everything Well...imseeing the "time and dedication" but I'm not seeing the "thought". Any game where a 3 year old can get to "level" 60 at, just by clicking on things near his combat "number" doesn't involve much thought. And, which videogames you play isn't going to affect your daily life...are you kidding me? So, if playing a shooter makes you work at mcdonalds because you want to smash buttons, a mmorpg is going to make you say noob 24/7 and click on monsters slowly as a job? If your tired of the "nerd" stereotype, then you wouldn't stereotype "cool" people as worthless, stupid, and ignorant people who will work at mcdonalds. Some of these "cool" people, are nice (this is a different type of cool...you know, the cool people who help communities and yet somehow are liked by everyone.). You know, this might be the reason people don't like nerdkind...they are quick to judge ._. (OMG YOU CALLED US NERDS, WHICH MEANS YOU GUYS ARE STUPID!). Come on, you seriously can't tell me some of you might be nerds. And if you don't care if your a nerd, why both posting? It seems like your bothered by it. I don't care how long you play, you could still be a nerd. I accepted "nerdom" a long time ago, yet, I'm generally liked by people...maybe if you didn't run around school or other games yelling blatantly, OK WHO HERE PLAYS RUNESCAPE? You wouldn't get 40 msges saying "nerd"....it's nerdy to go to a different game and ask that. It just is. Aight? Understood? Do you need some more lessons? Good. Now to go beat the crap out of a donkey with a wifflebat :XD: . Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?Final Fantasy 7Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz. Now to go beat the crap out of a donkey with a wifflebat :XD: . Okay lets break this down: 1) the time dedication and thought was about in general, not specifically rs. Thou some high end monsters and quests do require thought to figure out. 2) I never said what type of game you play affects your life. My point was people who sterotype nerds based on some stupid thing like a game are generally quite idiotic and just like to mash buttons 3) "cool" was in quote marks as it was refering to the stereotypical cool/popular as portrayed by most teen movies, not the kind of thing I geuinely associate with being cool 4) Your last paragraph was alot of gibberish, just because people have an opinion on something doesn't mean it bothers them. As for me personally I am who I am. I may be a bit of a "nerd" for playing rs, loving fantasy and wanting to be an author as a career. But that is just part of who I am not the whole, hell its a proven point that if you judge me on first impressions alone (in person) I come across as making Paris Hilton look like a genius. Personality is a complex thing and no-one should judge or label anyone for anything, but they do. That's life.
