jenova1692
I just finished having a conversation with my friend who insists that charging someone to let them borrow an item is immoral. Personally, I think it is simple business practice. It is their item they can do what they want with it, and letting people borrow your item for money gives them the chance to use it without paying full price. He however insists that the item lending system was not meant for that. I still stand by my opinion, but im curious what this community has to say about it. Fromfirst2Last1987
its fair practice imo. why let someone use your item for free. all it does is encourage people not to buy items and free load. and why lend something out and get nothing in return for it. think of it as renting instead of lending Dragon Drops: 5 medium helmet, 3 left shield halfObby: Maul 1, Cape 1, Shield
jenova1692
Thats what i said, but he claims that you'll get the item back anyways, so you shouldn't charge. I claimed that its just like renting a movie. They get it back and they will probably never watch it, but yet you still have to pay. Its a business. Star_Fox
this is where the seize the opportunity comes in. it's understandable that people have to pay for borrowed items. they never got to work for the item, and you're clearly wasting time away from using the item so paying a reasonable amount of cash should be justified. jenova1692
My friend claims that this is just a game, so it cant be compared to real life. He also says that if a person is just trying out they shouldn't need to pay. I tried all of these arguments with him and he isnt budging. Personally I think he just has a naive way of thinking when it comes to business.

Makoto_the_Phoenix
Whether or not it is immoral is inconsequential. Simply enough, if an opportunity exists, and both parties are willing to do such, then the question or morality no longer applies.   Besides, it makes sense to me...I loan you my Dragon chain, you pay me X. Seems reasonable enough. Linux User/Enthusiast | Full-Stack Software Engineer | Stack Overflow Member | GIMP User...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago. Adam007
There's a huge value to borrowing an expensive item that you'd normally have to pay for, even for a small amount of time. The fact that you're getting it for free is a bonus. Normally items are lent to friends, and the friendship is the value that covers the lending of the item. I'll gladly lend a rare to a friend, but I'd probably charge people I don't know for the intangible value of parading around with a rare for an extended period of time. Bloodveld
Anyways, who wants to go on a reporting streak ^.^?Sounds kind of lame to me. Sure, I'm not a fan of the new "please-beg-me" option, and I don't support rule breakers either, but charging for something like this seems perfectly fair in my book. I wouldn't do it, but I probably would look the other way if I saw someone else doing it. :^_^: I drew that smilie, btw, along with a few more used by this site.Classic bloodveld for lyph3! Chaos_Reborn
It seemed pretty obvious that they wouldn't allow "renting" items to other players by charging cash. They'll surely add this rule somewhere soon.   However it's enforced, it's just the same as the other rules. If a player says "lending party hat for 15 minutes for 3k!" you report them, and then they'll get busted. Which rule it falls under I have no idea, they'll probably put it under item scamming. Now don't ask me why this "renting" thing is item scamming, but some Runescape rule names include other stuff too. Jagex staff impersonation also includes saying that your main is a pmod or that your friend is one (no matter if it's true or not). Visit my Runescape comedy website, based on in-game screenshots. Mercifull
I would never charge a friend. However, if someone really desperatly wanted something to borrow then I wouldnt have any qualms about renting it out. Brave2
Just studied the rules. I cannot see anything in the rules that remotely suggests that charging for item lending is breaking a rule. Perhaps someone could ask a Jagex Mod which rule is being broken? - oh we can't due to the rubbish Customer Service :wall:    IMO it is quite acceptable. If the person borrowing the item is too lazy to get one for themselves then they should pay for the privilege of temporarily "owning" the item.   On a similar vein is it moral to charge for using someone's skill via the assist system? Again all the same arguments arise, but my opinion above still stands.   Just so you know - yes I do charge for "assisting" (although I rarely do it) and if I did have anything worth lending I would charge.
