Buddy turned 23. We succeeded in making him famous on a subreddit in honor of it. Good times. Had a good night, with a few minor hitches. Awkwardly hit on a girl at the Barcarde. Not the worst event of the night though (see Girlfriend thead). Still had fun I guess. I had 2 hours of sleep last night after drinking, had a cup of coffee, a 5 hour shot, 3 classes, and then went to the bar tonight. My body has no idea what its' doing.

OH.

good news is I'm finally making money from unemployment. So WOOOOO MONEY

Really need to get my romantic life sorted though haha

EDIT:

Recently got super into Yellowcard's album Ocean Avenue. One of you good folk used to have the album art as your signature. Ya'll got good taste.

[bleep]ing yellowcard, man. So good.. Simple Plan for life though

Spent a lot of time yesterday trying to make Droid Works work (loved that game when I was little). Learned a lot about what was going on in the process as well. For example, I got more detailed information on why my Win98 VM runs like garbage and why it's probably not worth my time learning how to fix it (being an unsupported OS for the VM software is not a minor issue). Also, my XP VM runs like garbage for reasons I am not sure of, but I remembered that I actually have a functional Windows XP computer that I kept to read an old HDD from another computer. This was met with the same results as when I tried it with the XP VM when that was working. Game time speeds up, droids barely move. DOSbox was also unable to run it.

Then I found a 98 VM already set up and intended to run old games. Fantastic. But it's supposed to run in a VM program that isn't compatible with Windows 7 (some people seem to be able to force Win 7 to run it anyway). Rather than screw around with that, I decided to let the XP box run it (the alternative would be running a virtual machine in a virtual machine). It worked too, but not 100%. A lot of the cutscenes still jump and fast forward inside the virtual machine, and the physics is pretty broken. Any tracked droid is hit or miss on getting up even a pretty gentle incline, and any puzzle involving both pushing and slopes is pretty much impossible. So while I was able to get the game into a state where I could at least play around with some of it, I don't think I'm ever going to actually get the game to work 100% without getting a computer that was made in 1998. So in the end it was nice, if a little disappointing. I guess that's the nature of trying to get these old games to work. Sometimes you can get them back up to playable, but rarely can you make them work perfectly without the actual hardware of the time (I've seen the same with other peoples efforts on similarly old games).

Also, it's not just the VM. Windows XP boots really fast. Now I really understand my confusion when I got my Vista laptop, and wondered if it was broken the first time it booted after installing. I guess at the time XP did seem slow, but nothing like Vista or 7, and after getting used to them, XP is like booting off an SSD.

There was also the novel idea I came across that since Droid Works uses the same game engine as Dark Forces 2 and Mysteries of the Sith (and these games are much easier to get running on modern hardware for whatever reason), that it might be possible to use one of those games to run it instead. They hadn't been able to make it work, but I thought it was a neat idea.

Back in Spokane. I still want to be at home on break. Tomorrow is a homework day for sure.

And I drank a Rockstar since I drove home from Seattle this morning and was pretty tired during the drive to Spokane. Now it's keeping me up even though I want to go to bed.

My girlfriend's mother just got informed that she won a raffle for a Mercedes C-Class.

Most of the bigger supermarkets here have a raffle ever few months where they give away 1 - 3 cars. Usually it's something like a Mercedes, Land Cruiser or GMC Sierra. All you have to do is spend 50QR or more. For each 50QR you get one entry. She had 3 raffle tickets, and i told her chanced are she would never win because of lot of these competitions are rigged. Few minutes ago she phoned me, in tears. She just won a Mercedes worth around 200k QR (I think). Which is more than she would earn in 4 years of working. I am super excited for her, as she has not had it easy for the past 4 years with her husband not working.

I found it funny that her husband actually wanted to keep the car. Typical of him, since he has a license and she doesn't. Cares more about what he drives than providing for his family. Not sure where he would even get money for gas since HE HAS NO [bleep]ING JOB. Typical of him.

Anyway, i'm so happy for her. Hopefully she invests the money instead of doing something stupid with it.

On a different note, my grandmother is coming to visit tomorrow, for three weeks. She was born and raised in Apartheid, so it's going to be very interesting introducing my Pakistani girlfriend to her. Very interesting indeed.

Filed my first tax return today, which from what I understand also registers me to vote. It's almost like I'm a real adult now.

Haaave you met ____?

'tis all sorted. I move into my own studio room this Friday. :D

only downer is we get fast net, but only 25GB per room, so basically only used for downloading/uploading assignments and playing dota.

Popoto.~<3

You have no idea what you can do with 25 GB.

Every summer, we are left with 5 GBs per month for 3 computer. It is fairly limiting, but most of the stuff I do otherwise I can do then aswell.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

I wouldn't be able to last on 25GB. I currently have a limit of 125GB and already used 102GB with another week to go before the reset. I don't even watch that much netflix anymore either. Probably going to pay for unlimited soon and remove HDTV from my bundle, I quite rarely watch tv these days.

Weekend was awful. Studied, haven't done anything significant. Hate studying, hate the class. Found out friends aren't going home for spring break, gonna be alone with the parents. Ugh. Have large amount of homework for other classes. Didn't do because I was studying. Prolly not gonna get it done. Hope to smudge short story and finish over break. Would prefer to finish before first draft due, but no time. Want classes to be over. Very badly want classes to be over.

My skin is finally getting soft
I'll scrub until the damn thing comes off

Flying down to Florida for spring break tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous about flying, since the last time I flew anywhere it was still the 90's. There's a good chance that there are members of this forum who were born more recently than I've flown (it's been 16 years or so).

Not afraid of flying or anything though, just afraid of messing up getting on the plane or something. Not really sure what I'm doing.

It should be a dope vacation though. Gonna hang out with old people and hopefully drink beer every night.

[bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp

I use about 180GB a month. (mostly due to Steam, Youtube and torrents)

That always used to be my biggest fear, and still kind of is. But if you're flying regional, it should be extremely easy not to mess things up.

I assume you're going down to Daytona?

Should be one heck of a good time. I remember last year me and my friends drove there, and stayed for a few days. Was insane. Never seen so many drunk, hot girls in one place at the same time.

The fact that most of your American experience was in Florida worries me Noxx. That state is all kinds of screwy

Well i did spend a week in Vegas.

But yeah i know Florida probably isn't the best place to go to get the full American experience. There are a few places here and there, in Florida, but it probably doesn't even compare.

It's pretty hard to mess up, getting on a plane. Just make sure you're at the right gate at the boarding time which is printed on your boarding pass (Usually bottom right corner), which is given to you when you check-in.

Security is easy, just make sure you have a separate bin for a laptop, & another bin for all removable items from your person, and your carry-on bag doesn't need a bin.

Are you flying from Seatac? If you are the best spot to get food is Beechers/Cafe Vita is terminal C. Anthony's Fish Bar is also good, quick option in the central terminal. Another pro tip is that you can take food/meals onto planes, which I highly recommend if your going to be doing a long flight.
