Worsens the punishment? What she needs to do is question their authority/decisions. Doing that is the only way for her to be free...

If she does that she gets screamed at longer, and her punishment length is increased. Her parents are very protective of their authority.

The only difference between Hitler and the man next door who comes home and beats his kids every day is circumstance. The intent is the same-- to harm others.

I told her there was a secret method to doing it - and there is - but my once nimble and agile fingers were unable to perform because I was under the influence.

I would laugh, not hate. I'm a male. :(

Camera guy: runs away still laughing

You (TTanT) are right and I don't have an answer for you. Are there external figures of authority who might sympathize with her who the parents would listen to? I know you've deleted the post, but it's pretty easy to guess what it was.

It's also now in the relationship thread if you want to read it.

But not really. My parents don't believe in interfering with other people's children. I'm going to get her to talk to her school counselor, though.

End of the day, they are her parents. You can choose friends but you can't choose family. Unless you want to fight the£, which will only make more suspicious and protective about how the relationship is making her behave, you're going to have to play this game by their rules.

People aren't usually power-mad for no good reason. They probably have what they think are her best interests at heart, but are going the wrong way about it. Has your girlfriend tried reasoning with them up front; explained to them that you're not forcing her to do anything, and that the relationship is safe for her to be in?

She is 15 though. If her parents say 'No', then 'No' is the answer, unless you want to go behind their backs and make things very awkward indeed.

@ RESULTS

Went to waitrose today on your behalf. (before you thank me, i'm not an incredible stranger, i just work there lol)

They sell a couple if different flavours, i'm sure they'll deliver - probably works out cheapest there as opposed to buying it from amazon.

Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!

Excuses me while I finish my Snapple real quick..

...Ok I'm good.

I've never heard of someone so obsessed with a band of juice before. It's good, my favorite is the Mango Madness (literally drinking one right now) but I'm sure there is some sort of equivalence where you live. Just make sure it's made from the best stuff on earth and your good.

Darn you... :/

it was ALL i drank for 6 and a bit days.

free provided by the hotel :D Lemon and Peach. (Iced Tea mind you)

and now there's a void, haha

@foursideking.

Is it available in england?

Lol...or go to canada. Reminds me of when my family went to london back in 2004, and there was this really addicting taffee over there. Took 1 bite of the stuff and was addicted.....so much so that before returning home, I bought $300 worth of the stuff.

If you're coming here, you wanna buy some golden syrup. Apparently it's only in the UK where the stuff is widely available, the US only has substitutes. Makes crackin' flapjack (British flapjack, with porridge oats, I think 'flapjack' means another snack in American English). Can also be used for other stuff.

Wait, Johannas.. Waitrose stocks something similar in appearance to this?

http://www.amazon.com/Snapple-Variety-Three-Yummy-Flavors/dp/B00196O92O/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header

Still, it was nice of you to check! thanks! :D

Im gonna have to get my dad to take me because the nearest one is like 5 miles from me.... :/

and it has to be Lyle's Golden syrup!

just think Maple Syrup but thicker and sweeter :D Not quite treacle, but yeah, stuff's good!

The branch i work in only does 2 flavours - Mango, and then Cranberry and Raspberry. They're £1.39 each and you buy them individually.

The ones on amazon you linked to are the same size, but work out at £1.62 each if you include shipping.

Might be worth just getting them over the internet, especially if you don't have a waitrose locally. Plus you get an extra flavour. However that's a long way for a glass bottle(s) to go without breaking.

Your call.

Either way an expensive habit!

Yeah now you put it that way, The internet seems a better option, especially seeing as they're 591ml bottles - Bigger than normal for here. It doesn't work out much more expensive than the average bottle of coke. Also I'm pretty sure they're plastic bottles too. I'm going to see how much I'll get charged for shipping before i do anything though.

edit - Nevermind. 'The selected item cannot be shipped to your address'

mind you, even to America it's $28.49 so it would've been pricey.

Thanks a lot for your help, Johannas

edit 2 - I found this. It will be as close as I come to actually getting real snapple again, unless i travel back to NY (I'm thinking about it) . but for anyone else in the UK in my perdicament, this is the solution!! and for about £5 in total!

I got an easier question for you /adv/ folk:

I've made an error. I joined Honors College. moreover, I'm bombing Honors Lit&Comp102. At this pooint, I can drop it and only get a 'withdrawn' as a grade, but I lose my scholarship [not a big deal honestly, its only $1500 a year] and i might get kicked out of honors college [thank god]. NOW, my question is...

should I drop it and get the 'W' or stick it out like a man and struggle for a 'D' to stay in honors college, decimate my GPA and maybe keep my scholarship?

It depends on whether or not your college/university lets you retake classes. In my university, as long as you get a passing grade, you can retake the course and get a new grade on your transcript, with a recalculated GPA... this doesn't work for those who drop the course, in which you get an IN for incomplete on your transcript or something.

Ask an advisor is what I'm trying to say.

Can anyone explain to me how to read an actogram? I've never been good at interpretting graphs, and I can't find a guide or anything that will help me interpret actograms.

e.g actogram_food.jpg

Not sure if this isn't allowed here.

Seems like a heap of bar graphs to me. Horizontal axis is time in hours, I assume. Instead of having a long-ass graph, every 24 hours, the graph is broken and continues below, so instead of going:

0-6-12-18-24-30-36-42-48...

The axis goes:

Day 1: [0-6-12-24[

Day 2: [0-6-12-24[

Day 3: [0-6-12-24[

Day 4: [0-6-12-24[

I'm assuming this is particularly useful for things that follow a loose daily cycle (sleep patterns, eating patterns...).

It'd be nice to know what is being recorded, but an actogram records activity throughout the day, so the y axis in this case is representing the day and the x-axis is recording the hour of the day. Between each hour is how much activity is occuring. I think.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

That's what it seems to be. I would say two different things are measured in each column, also.

Soo. A close friend of mine (who has been slipping away from me for months, which is beside the point) goes to a different school and currently is super into her boyfriend (or having a boyfriend, not sure which ranks higher.) She's been complaining of her school friends there and saying the group is falling apart in the final year and such, and that she's basically replaced them with her boyfriend's friends. Does anyone else think that sounds like a slightly unhealthy idea? Cutting ties with people who will back you up doesn't seem like a good idea, even if they're being replaced since the people she talks to more now are the guys her boyfriend talks to. And, in reality, it's high school. I don't see the relationship lasting. I can't say it to her, but really, it's true, especially for him moving six hours away next year. Thoughts on if this is a problem? Or how to approach her? Our friendship has been slightly turbulent since the introduction of this boyfriend, but I'm not fearful of sharing reality with her.

/FG/First thread post to when I joined the family.

If she's moving 6 hours away, a lot of things won't last, and that includes friendships she's making as well as the friendships she used to have.

I'm male, 18, a senior in high school (United States), don't have any friends, don't get along with my family (This will not change. Please don't mention it.), and am having some trouble.

My parents said they would kick me out when I finish high school. If that happens, I will be completely on my own and have nobody to turn to. I've thought about this for a while and I have a few plans on what to do with my future. I can (from most to least likely):

become some sort of homeless person (wanderer/hermit/big city/squatter(I don't know which is the easiest))

kill myself

start a life of crime

work my ass off at a minimum wage job for the rest of my life and live in a [cabbage]ty apartment or something

work my ass off for a few years at a minimum wage job, go to school, and be about 20 years behind my peers financially

I don't want to do any of those things. Unless my parents change their mind about kicking me out, I don't have a choice. I have absolutely zero social skills. I've been that way for 18 years. It will not change. Please don't suggest it.

I'm asking for advice on what to do to prepare myself for the future.

More importantly, does anybody know of a place that I can ask for reliable general life advice anonymously?

I don't know if I would call most of it reliable, but you can always ask at /adv/.

There are some trolls and whatnot, but also some genuine people that give advice.

[cabbage] man, heavy. Squatters the easiest hands down. are u uk? i can hook you up with squats.. lol. its pretty important if ur uk cos if u are then u can get housing benefits, very possibly be put through university.

erm you'll find it hard to start a life of crime with no social skills lol, best money maker crime wise for non drug addicts is dealing drugs. you need connections basically. anyway bad option, you don't wanna be that guy.

nothing wrong with being behind people financially. id suggest that.

but i mean you should really try and work on your social skills, without other people we're nothing.

also i know this is extreme but surely if u broke down and said this kind of thing to your parents theyd at least feel sorry for u? if not u shud report them to child services because its not right to give up non your kid like that. i dont know about your relationship tho..

i feel for you man!

but killing yourself is a [cabbage] option, trust me youll be glad you didnt ion a few years time :)

goodluck

oh also for life advise definately find a hotline, if ur uk then the samaritans are really good. its a lot better to talk to someone whos used to dealing with this kind of situation and has good sound advice and contacts, rather than us kids on tinternet telling u random crap lol x

ps. i used to have terrible social skills, also a terrible relationship with my parents, who are separated. but i worked really hard on both and now im pretty damn competent, i dont no about your parents but social skills can always be learnt. unless you have aspergus? in which case im sure you can get funding from a charity. but if u dont n ur social skills are that bad then i beg u top stop playing safe inside your house on games and start throwing yourself in the deep end, the longer you wait the more you reduce your options!

goodluck
