Hobgoblinpie
So I bought a load of French books whilst in Paris, including all the Harry Potter books... Since returning, I've managed to read 1 & 2 (à l'école des sorciers and et la chambre des secrets), currently making my way through #3. It's interesting to read and then pick up the rules and structures of a different language especially since, for me, it seems to open up new 'channels' of thought in my own language. Good idea, might try doing that at some point. I don't think my french is good enough to read something like Harry Potter at this point though... Ambler
Bit late posting, but read Return to Canifis and Legacy of blood as soon as I got them. Managed to get LoB a few days early due to having a Kindle, and I don't think I stopped reading it until I was done. If it is the last one in the series I'll be slightly annoyed. Too many unfinished plot things.[hide=SPOILER] At least they killed Sulla off, but I have the feeling the swiftness of his death means something will magically bring him back to life. And it had a bit too much romance compared to the others, but I think I'll live.[/hide] Also, debating buying the first on my Kindle to complete the set, I have an authour signed hardback already though. :unsure:Edit: Zomg. Open Kindle store: New Artemis Fowl book. Downloaddownloaddownload. It's the last in the series. :sad:And... Finished it. Serpent Eye
Maybe if you drew reading it out a bit longer than four hours. :-P But yes, I hate that feel.
Ambler
I always speedread books for the first time, when I go back and read it again it makes it easier to notice new things. That and I hate reading slowly, I have 2 months of no school before college, so I don't mind rereading stuff  And it was 2 hours 30 minutes, not 4 hours. Skull
Re-reading The Fellowship of The Ring. It's longer than I remember. I also did an awful job reading it the first two times, so it's like a brand new book to me. Sure it's taking me much longer, but I'm not missing out on like half the book like I did before. tripsis
I recently finished Across the Universe by Beth Revis. It was amazing! And is this not the most gorgeous cover you've ever seen? http://booknook.me/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/across-the-universe-beth-revis.jpeg It's too bad though. That cover is great, the second book's cover is great, but they decided to "redesign" the series for the third book.. and it's horrible :/ Anyway I'm now reading Exiled by M.R. Merrick. This is also great. It's a nice urban fantasy kind of book. Demons, vampires, demon hunters.. that kind of thing. Really cool! Also, last night I went to a Dark Days Book Tour stop in Huntington Beach! Authors Veronica Roth (Divergent), Dan Wells (Partials), S.J. Kincaid (Insignia), and Aprilynne Pike (Wings) were there! It was so amazing and I even met a blogger friend! - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog

Crocefisso
Book covers are annoying these days. Whatever happened to the classic plain hardcover?.... I have to say I agree with this. It's all a marketing ploy that detracts from the fact that reading a book should be about the book. Serpent Eye
Finally found a decent bardcode scanner to use for my Goodreads account. :D I have an odd dozen or so more reference books to add, but so far the final count is 489 books owned, 299 of them read. obfuscator
Finally starting War and Peace tomorrow. Wish me luck :ohnoes: :P I was reading about an hour a day generally. I'd say it took me about 20 hours. But I speed read, so it would probably take longer than that reading at an "average" pace. Makoto_the_Phoenix
I've been reading "Ghost in the Wires" by Kevin Mitnick. It's been an exciting and interesting read so far; easy to spend 2 hours with the book a day. It's a book that I'd recommend to anyone that's a computer professional, or curious as to how powerful social engineering really is. Duff
I've been working on getting through the Lord of the Rings Trilogy this summer. I've just started the third one and have three weeks to finish it, which is more than enough time. I read for 30 minutes during lunch at work every day and then a little more on the weekends. So I'm not rushing to get through it. I've been enjoying it, which isn't a surprise at all. | My Tumblr |

tripsis
Guys... guys.. GUYS!!!! I have found the book for gamers and tech geeks who love a bit of sci-fi dystopian fiction. HOLY CRAP! This is my absolute favourite book of the year so far. INSIGNIA BY S.J. KINCAID Eeeep! Here's the blurb: More than anything, Tom Raines wants to be important, though his shadowy life is anything but that. For years, Toms drifted from casino to casino with his unlucky gambler of a dad, gaming for their survival. Keeping a roof over their heads depends on a careful combination of skill, luck, con artistry, and staying invisible. Then one day, Tom stops being invisible. Someones been watching his virtual-reality prowess, and hes offered the incrediblea place at the Pentagonal Spire, an elite military academy. There, Toms instincts for combat will be put to the test, and if he passes, hell become a member of the Intrasolar Forces, helping to lead his country to victory in World War Three. Finally, hell be someone important: a superhuman war machine with the tech skills that every virtual-reality warrior dreams of. Life at the Spire holds everything that Toms always wantedfriends, the possibility of a girlfriend, and a life where his every action mattersbut what will it cost him? Gripping and provocative, S. J. Kincaids futuristic thrill ride of a debut crackles with memorable characters, tremendous wit, and a vision of the future that asks startling, timely questions about the melding of humanity and technology. I honestly can't recommend this book enough. It's kind of like the Harry Potter for tech nerds. I'm seriously just obsessed with this book now. You can read my full review here if you want: http://booknook.me/insignia-by-s-j-kincaid/ Also, S.J. Kincaid was one of the authors at the Dark Days Tour I went to. So I got to get my copy signed! Sy_Accursed
Personally for sci-fi (sort of) dystopia future I don't think you can ever beat the classic that is Riddley Walker. After going through my entire amazon books order history + assorted others I remember I've only got my goodreads up to 153 books, I feel like there are a LOT of books I've just plain forgotten cause that seems awfully low since a good 60 of them are just uni books and I've been reading for years and years before uni. Star.
^Yeah same I can't remember 90% of the books I've read. I'm trying to add books that I've read when I was an impressionable young girl but I've read so many that the names escape my mind. It doesn't help that the books weren't great novels and not memorable at all. I don't really wanna add Mary-kate and Ashley books on Goodreads but that's all I can remember at the moment. ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢
