Ive never been a huge reader, but I am starting to read books about music. The book I'm reading now is No Such Thing As Silence; John Cage's 4'33''. By Kyle Gann

This book really challenges what is music for a person. John Cage's 4'33'', is silent. Most people would say that this is not music. However, John wanted the sounds of the building in which the people were sitting in, the sounds of the people, and the sounds of the surrounding area to become the music. This makes every performance of 4'33'' unique, since each piece is different. Very fun conversation to have with others about.

Isn't that just ambient noise? Sounds awful to me...

Anyway, I finished The Children of Húrin by Tolkein, and now I'm starting on Watership Down by some different person (Richard Adams).

I'm currently running through the Nightside series by Simon R. Green. Not as good as the Dresden Files, but still decent.

Also half reading the Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice kid series that I haven't read in maybe seven or eight years. Brings back good memories. And unlike a lot of the kids books I read back in the day, these are actually readable.

Finished Jane Eyre last night, going to start Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card maybe later today (snowday yay!). Dunno anything of what it's about, but it's by Orson Scott Card, so it has to be good.

Indeed it is. The question then becomes what is music? When I first started in the music program last year I listened to 4'33'', and came to the conclusion that it was not music. But now after a full year and a few months, I can say it is.

It's actually a pretty well-known piece, although you won't see it performed often. These sort of ideas, like Duchamp's "Fountain", are commonly debated in art and widely accepted at this point under the general umbrella of Postmodernism.

Ive finished a collection of short stories by Agatha Christie, Hound of Death. Some are really good, but most are meh. Finished Midsummer Night's Dream, thought it'd be a good bit of reading. Yeah. Starting on Homer's Odyssey soon.

I'm currently reading through the Scot Harvath thrillers by Brad Thor. Not bad, and certainly good thrillers, but I just see that most thrillers concerning spies and America are so patriotic and in your face about it without trying to be. "Save the president" "Kill the Muslim extremists" "Stop nuclear missiles from entering the states"! It's always something very patriotic about them that seems to be a message to other countries not to screw with America because we have fictional spies and secret service members who will stop them in the nick of time.

As much as I say about that, I still enjoy them. They're my favorite genre just because I enjoy globe-trekking and good shootouts and action. And I love the political aspects and history and everything that goes with them.

The new Dresden book has been pushed back and it'll be a month before the next Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase novel comes out (The cheesiest, most action packed series of crap reads in the history of awesome), so I've got some time to blow. Still have to read The Secret Soldier by Alex Berenson though. I remember emailing the guy back when his first book came out. I was in seventh grade and I read his book The Faithful Spy, which remains one of the best spy books I've ever read, and he was surprised as hell that I was my age and read it and understood it. He gave me some writing tips I've taken to heart ever since.

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan, it's awesome so far and I'm only 5 or so chapters in. Also reading Candide for AP Lit.

Yeah, I liked the Lost Hero better than any of the Percy Jackson books.

Speaking of Riordan, over the weekend i read "The Red Pyramid", which is the first book in "The Kane Chronicles". If you liked Percy Jackson, it's a good read.

I read Candide for AP Lit too, last year. Since the narrative pace was so insane it felt like it took no time to read it at all.

Yep, I read that recently too. I feel like I like the whole 'Camp Half-Blood' storyline a little better, though that might just be because I'm used to Riordan and Percy Jackson.

A Game of Thrones, by George RR Martin. Pretty awesome. Much better than the X of X series I had read previously, haha.

Also picked up a very pretty copy of Dune to replace my old paperback ver. and the prequel to the Bartimaeus Trilogy to read.

I've almost finished Fight Club. I think I preferred the movie, but the movie's ending wasn't very good, and I've heard the book's is better.

Then I start Brave New World for my Utopias class, which I've been looking forward to. Probably gonna read some filler before then, though.
