Is dragon defender worth getting? Or should I get a dfs instead?

DFS is mainly for boss killing. Rune/dragon defender > DFS everywhere except DKs, Bandos (solo/tank), and Armadyl GWD.

Even a bandos soloer (w/o divine) would probably be equally well off with a defender.

Depends on a whole host of factors. I'd say hesitantly that the dragon defender > DFS at Bandos.

And situationally, in safe PvP. I like to throw on the DFS when I see someone whip out dds/claws to tank their hits.

Started with 158 tokens in each, and i got like 1 cyclop every 2 minutes. I was about to give up when i had 38 tokens in each category when a cyclossus appeared for me, i killed it and got helm and defender :shades: . Using black knifes helps to keep your cyclosses from being stolen.

Interesting update, but judging by the posts so far, I'm waiting for a bit until I get a dragon defender.

But what's this...

The penguin spies have decided to mix things up and have hence become a little less predictable. They are also scoping out a couple of new areas...

...

In terms of penguin points, nothing has changed, but the penguin and polar bear spies now have some weird locations. I knew it was coming, but didn't expect it so soon. Well, thanks for complicating my "job" Jagex.

(I still love you though. Somewhat.)

Aww man, i hope this doesnt effect penguin hunting too much.

I wubed my free summ xp.

O.O

After watching all of these people get their cyclossi taken and having a nice laugh irl at their responses and plight I release some protips aside from the throwing knives.

Protip: When stunned by the cyclossus you can immediately attack it because it just stops your attacking.

Protip: Put yourself between the cyclossus and the nearest wall and when it pushes you back immediately start right clicking attacking it. You should get the attack in on time.

Protip: It's fun to piss off [wagon] by preventing them from taking your cyclossus. So do it.

Hope this helps.

[hide=Drops]Dragon: Spear x1, Med helm x3, legs x2, pickaxe x1, skirt x3, scimitar x1

Barrows: DH helm x1, Verac Brassy x2, Karil Skirt x1, Ahrim Hood x2, Guthan Spear

GWD: Arma Helm x1

Other: Handcannon x4, Leaf Bladed Sword x3[/hide]

I think most, if not all of us were. With the ease of getting it, this really sets them up for a hard to get(~100k tokens, maybe dg quest related) chaotic defender. It just seems as though because defenders were already so popular jagex thought they can take half a month off by introducing, effectively, nothing significant at all and calling it an update(the best way to look at it would be the book Brian wrote in a recent family guy episode).

Haha I loved that episode and I agree about the Chaotic Defender. Also, I'd rather have a Dragon Defender than another low level quest with no long-term usable reward. Whatever it's stats, as long as it's better than its predecessor, I won't lose any sleep over a couple points.

Although it was too easy to get these, some of that might be due to multi-point mode (droprate is super high), and it was fun to hear "omg botters" and "omfg leave if you already have one" and similar for a while. Noninstanced updates always lead people to say the most ridiculous things.

Fun pic for people who haven't been there yet. Note knives + how I stand against wall to avoid having my spawn stolen.

2 questions:

First do the big cyclopses spawn after a certain amount of time in the room or after a certain number of cyclops kills

Second: around how many or how long does it take to get one to spawn ?

Well Jagex failed. Now, to actually get defenders in a respectable time frame, you need to do every one of those godforsaken minigames. Gl getting more then about 200 tokens per hour in them. Finally got my defender though. Stole a cyclossus to get it. Good thing people don't know how to hold on to their cyclossi. Now I am out of that disgustingly crowded place.

Didn't get this quoted for some reason. :P But what you say isn't quite true.

It's still perfectly possible to get defenders like before. However, if you want a small damage bonus, some drops noted, an increased chance of a defender drop and an increased chance of spawning a cyclossus, you will need tokens from all the guild activities.

Though if you mean "respectable timeframe" as "as little time spent in the cyclops area as possible" then what you said is correct.

Yes, I have absolutely terrible luck with defenders. My longest drystreak is roughly 6k tokens in between rune defenders. And I have gotten 32 rune defenders total on this account. I used to pvp back around lvl 100-110 and I lost lots of defenders. I used to average 1 rune defender every 1 to 1.5k tokens spent. Luckily Jagex changed the tokens over and credited you for every different minigame in there, so I have 3.7k in each. Should last long enough once it calms down.

But yes, my luck for the last 16 or so rune defenders has been absolutely terrible. So yes, that is exactly what I meant by "respectable time frame".

It's random when it spawns, you won't get one right when you enter, but they're tons more common than something like the Living Rock Patriarch. There's at least one, if not several, in the room for someone every few minutes.

This was insanely hard to get a kill.

Until I realized there's a trick to stuff like this. Got back-to-back drops. 4 total kills. I'm outta that hellhole.

Use a crossbow/any range attack item to get the attack faster. And when you get the big cyclopse stand against the wall or pull out range so it keeps attacking you. If you get it past half health you'll get the kill even if someone takes it. (That's how I got my dragon defender by the way).

But yeah, overall, not worth it. It's best just to wait until the crowds dissipate. Annoys the hell out of you otherwise.

Someone said to right-click a normal cyclopse spawn before it dies. This doesn't work for me and instead the dialogue box just closes...

That used to work, doesn't anymore.

I managed to get almost every kill by using a range weapon (rune thrownaxes), and just standing beside a spawn facing it. Had mouse hovering directly over where it would spawn. Just click fast :P

What I found was the best way was to stand on the "core" of the position the monster would occupy if it respawned (this would be the south-eastern most square, where all your drops end up and also where your ranged ammo drops). Equip darts or knives.

Spam click the north-western part of that square while you're standing in it in such a way that you do not move, yet click as close to the other squares as possible (this is a lot easier than it sounds).

Cyclops respawns.

You get the spawn.

You repeat this multiple times in a row.

People rage.

(In fact, most of the time the cyclops will move when you first hit it, so you probably won't even have to leave your square. Problem is you only get a single spawn though...)

One such location is 3 squares south-1 square east of the northern torch in the north-west corner of the room.

Best Strategy I found:

1. Move several squares away from the cyclops' spawn (with a ranged weapon)

2. Orient the Camera: Move it low to the ground, and rotate it so the space that the Cyclops will occupy (his torso, not his feet) is between the camera and the base of the square you occupy.

3. Move the mouse so it's over your square (but also where the Cyclops' torso will be when he spawns)

4. Spam-click like hell.

Myself and one other person used this strategy for the NE Corner of a Brazilian world for hundreds of tokens worth of time...People for the most part just started leaving our corner alone. XD

Not sure if this has been covered, but it IS possible to get a dragon defender and cyclopean helm drop from one cyclops ... or atleast one of the lvl 155 ones. I did not get it a screen shot (was to excited lol) so you can believe me or not, but i know it is possible.

In other words: We got a ban hammer in varrock mines. It's jackin yo [censor] bots, slappin yo macros up, tryna ban em, so ya'll need to hide yo scripts, hide yo clicks, and hide yo logs cause they bannin errbody up in here.
