TIF is bit over-moderated

Recommended Posts

From what I've noticed this far, the entire premise for the mods' arguments is based around hand-waving and ad infinitum fallacies.

"You're wrong because I say so" does not constitute a proper rebuttal.

Of course it does. TIF admins are gods among men remember? :shades:

Jagex have been contacted regarding the scripts (with examples provided) and yes, they confirmed that is against the rules.

WAT

Nobody has specifically said there was e-mail exchange. It would be nice if you would calm down so we can actually organise ourselves and give you an official message from ourselves summing everything up instead of constantly replying to your posts.

was it sent by pigeon and the pigeon has flown away????

It most likely won't be an email & will be a post on a private forum board on RSOF for like platinum fansites or something similar.

So all that is left to clear up is the problem with absolute movement.

1input=1output CHECK

Windows Mousekey simulation - relative movement CHECK

Absolute movement - moving to x,y coord - contention

If all scripts pertaining to absolute movement were removed. Would this then comply with Tifistans platinum 10 commandments from J Mod Moses guidebook & be ok?

So we can openly talk about AutoHotKey assuming we use it for the right reasons.

No, because those aren't condoned and they are immediately removed.

TEF admins have had a week to remove the offending scripts and they still haven't done so. If they have, they should make the forums public so I can check right now.

They're already gone.

I can't make the forums public, but our admins have good (spammer-related) reasons for keeping them private. You're welcome to make an account and join in the discussion if you'd like to see the board.

Spammer related reasons? What are those exactly?

...People spamming the forums, obviously. I'm not a mod so I don't know the specifics.

I'm pretty sure having our forum private doesn't violate any TIF rules as far as links go, so I'm not sure why you're suddenly trying to tell us how to run the forum. Are you too lazy to sign up an account or what?

You need an account to post, and having an account gives you access to all the forums. I don't see how keeping them private helps prevent spam?

Could be worse... :P

Some of the users on the thread remind me of this cute little fellow:

The admins sound like they are working it out with theanchient ect, if that's the case then let it be handled.

From talking with an active member of your forum and seeing screenshots, no, they are still there. Ones you personally deemed illegal may have been removed (although not sure what ones they are) but ones that we, on our forums enforce as against the rules are still present. As I have said, we will not tell other forums how to moderate as it is up to them so we will not ask for them to specifically be removed, only that linking to a forum with illegal scripts present is not allowed.

There really isn't much more to say than that.

Except that TIF's understanding of Jagex's macro policy is completely incorrect. It doesn't help that they then invent communication with Jagex that can't be produced to create the illusion that they are in any way in touch with reality.

Thats what women still tell me.

"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world."

Well I think it's also going to be sent to Rocked. Do you know of any other admins that aren't busy right now? I'm sure it would be no problem to add them to the conversation as well!

EDIT: Grats on graduating, that's pretty cool Grimy.

There are still several scripts that are illegal, including a post from grimy quoting the offending script saying "that's illegal"; but it hasn't been removed.

This quote is taken directly from the forums you want linked to from when one of the memebrs asked about the sort of scripts in question:

Ya, I also asked Timbo about it, and had him ask the Cheating team about it because I knew he wouldn't be able to give a real answer. I got this:

"AHK is 3rd Party Software, and as such, is not allowed to be used to play RuneScape.

Using this software is against the rules under the 3rd party program rule and would ultimately result in a permanent ban from the game from it's use.

As such, we would strongly recommend that you do not use the software."

But that's also what they initially said about Mousekeys, as well as Swiftkit, but they later realized those were fine, I hope they do the same with AHK.

It isn't our understanding of the rules, it is the understanding by those who made the rules, Jagex.

Timbo works for community management and most likely got the automatic response from the cheating team when he asked the question to them. Anyways, where's this telegraph/email/pigeon delivered letter?

So you're basing your stance on a quote from Mod Timbo, a community mod, over the contradicting word of Mark L, who ACTUALLY DEALS WITH MACROS.

This is where our problems with Tip.it come from. You guys have no ability to think critically or understand the game we all play, and end up making incredibly stupid decisions as a result.

So now there are only certain J-Mods you'll accept an answer from?

I don't see how someone working in community management who has trouble organizing q&a's in game is able to answer a question on such a debated issue. Yes, I'm not going to take the answer from timbo the same as I don't ask my butcher how to fix my toilet.

A better analogy would be asking a janitor in the white house about US foreign policy. Timbo has nothing to do with anything.

Give me a list of the specific scripts that you deem to be illegal, give me proof of any message you recieved from Jagex declaring said scripts illegal and I shall remove them. Other wise you can stop talking in circles.

Yet you state he got the response directly from the cheating team....

"hey lads, a player posted on the community forums about something called "autohotkey", asking if it was allowed or not"

"eh, just say it's 3rd party"

"alright see you at the pub?"

or as you imagine it

"Hey lads, a player posted: Recites the question exactly as it was written down"

"Oh yes we are actually researching that right now and have deemed it a 3rd party program which we will not allow our players to use, as we find it breaks this rule and that rule."

Get real.

This is a semi-official message from the Mod/Admin team and as such is all the sum of the information we are willing to give at the current time:

Because this issue was such a pressing matter, we attempted to contact Jagex staff. We did not however contact them by e-mail as that takes some time. They were sent a large list of the scripts which are currently available on the forum. Safe to say, they did confirm it was against the rules. However, since this is still such a big issue, we are in the process of contacting them in a more conventional manner and will have proper correspondance to disclose soon, but because of the timezone issues/business days it likely won't get responded to until Monday.

Due to compromising scripts still being available on the offending forum, the links are still to be removed as per forum rules, as anybody who wishes to register an account has access to them.

Please remember we will stay on the side of caution until we have a full decision as to what to do. Until we get a more official response, this is the response we will stick to.

Edit: You are free to believe or not believe this (possibly due to the vendetta many users have against myself (even though it isn't directly from me)). However it is all of the information we can possibly give at the current time. We are not withholding anything or attempting be 'pick' on anybody, we are simply enforcing the rules to all the evidence we have present.

All 3 of those have prior commitments, which is why I said the message could be redirected to me. Failure to acknowledge this will leave me with no choice but to lower my opinion further of the Tip.it moderation team.
