Chinchompa Nerf - Good or Bad?

For those of you who don't know, Ape Atoll monkeys were changed in 2 ways with the new graphics update:

#1: The respawn speed was lowered

#2: They no longer spawn from their bones

I have not checked it out myself, but it is being posted extensively in the RSOF, along with a supposed post from Mod Steven about it being intentional to balance the skill. I would appreciate confirmation of the changes or a link to his post. Still, I'm fairly sure that its true... I saw 30-40 thread in RSOF confirming it, and none saying it worked. Ape Atoll is no longer useful for chinning. Other places such as mummies\What Lies Below skeletons are nowhere near as good. Obviously chins will crash, and places like Yaks and Avansies will become even more crowded. Is this good or bad? For me its bad, as I was about ready to chin to 99 (Had the cash, was holding off on buying the chins thankfully). I'm sure many people will post saying "good there goes a buyable skill", but I somewhat disagree - earning the money is quite a bit of work, and chinning itself is mildly dangerous and very boring, at least to me.

Yes, I know chinchompas themselves were not nerfed, but the only reasonable place to use them was removed (Trust me, I've tried other places. None of them come anywhere close). Chins will more then likely crash, hunter will lose its reputation as a decent money maker, and fewer people will be getting 99 range. Good or bad?

EDIT2: Wow, this post survived the two weeks I was gone. Guess I'd better edit this with some new information: in "This Weeks Updates FAQ" sticky, a mod stated that the ape atoll removal was "a mistake" and "would be fixed soon", and chinchompas are back at normal level. Hunters everywhere, rejoice : . Now I just need a few more hilts so I can get my SGS and 99 range

Seems fair to me. It didn't make sense that Ranged had such a (hyper) fast way of training for such a long time.

I can't really justify why it's such a good update atm (exhausted), but I believe that it's still a very good update anyway.

Well, although I'll agree that getting the necessary money to get the chins is quite a task (around 30mil), a buyable skill is a buyable skill. I think that the combat skills should not be buyable.

However, you are right, the chins are going to crash and hunting is probably going to be a dead skill. Good thing I stopped where I did, because I would have been in for a surprise.

Anyway, I love ranging and I recently made a vow to get 99 ranging about a couple weeks ago. I am up to 87 and I will be killing fire giants with my rune c'bow and mith bolts until 99. I started to catch chins, but after about 1k or so I stopped because I didn't want to get 99 the cheap way.

All I know is when I get that skill cape I am going to be proud of it. As for the people who bought the chins, maybe it serves you right for doing it the cheap way :D

Getting 99 Ranged for like 50 mil is more unbalanced than ruining the Hunter Skill's profits? Hmm... I don't see the point. It's only upsetting people who don't have 99 Hunter or Ranged yet.

Now the only thing that caused it to be unfair is cutting the method off from potential rangers. That's like making Dragon Bones unusable at Gilded Altars, a year after the update.

As for mummies, the XP is so bad and slow there compared to Ape Atoll that I can't see chins coming back up any time soon. As for buyable, what does buyable mean? Prayer is "buyable" - you can get over 400k XP per hour (More then chins) if your willing to spend cash. And it still takes a long time to earn the money for 99 range. Plus, hunter is now dead. IMO its not a worthy tradeoff, but others may think differently.

Bad update, I just bought a couple thousand chinchompas. [Not for levelling, as part of a trade.]

Well kinda bad for me because love when training goes fast. Its not like if it really needed a nerf..

Good thing My friend showed me a good way to chin with profit back(will be more profit if chins drop).

Sucks though, my friend was making money to chin to 99(from 93). He was real disapointed when i told him the fastest exp to chin got nerfed. :(

Doesn't affect me. I got 99 ranged the old fashioned way. :

I already have my 99 Range and 83 Hunter. And I think Nechs are the best Chin spot anyway, so this wouldn't affect me even if I was under 99 Range. In fact, it would make it easier as Chins will likely crash.

Ape Atoll Skeletons weren't they only way to chin ;), But they definitally were the cheapest/fastest. I really don't care about the update, I didnt plan on 99 Ranged anytime soon, And chinchompas there were extremely fast and I think a bit too much, But still, It took time to earn that 50M-60M to bank 99 Ranged. Really screwed over the hunter skill though #-o. I just see the other chinning spots becoming used more, Even though they arent that great exp, They're alot better then other ways.

I'm kind of happy to see the change, But I'm sure I won't be happy if/when I go for 99 Ranged lol :wall:

Diversity is always good. Having the choice - quick&expensive vs slow&cheap is a good part of runescape.

Now part of that diversity is gone, along with the main reason for people to do hunting.

A situation where everyone loses and noone wins.

Now how do you make money with hunter? (besides the not-too-common dragon imp) lame update.

So, yeah it's good to balance skills and make them not buy-able, but this pretty much ruins hunter. everyone who already got 99 (or very high) hunter with chins is lucky and the rest are screwed.

YES! Glad another buyable got downed. Range shouldn't be so fast because none of the other CB skills are except mage which was kinda nerfed with it. That was absolutely the saddest way to train range and didn't deserve respect for your range lvls/HP lvls if you did it extensively. But it realy hurts the hunters like Riyyon(good friend from TIF) which is realy terrible but I guess it was coming.

but if prices keep dropping people will find them so cheap to be able to chin mummies with them at the same price as ape atoll albeit longer but cheaper

Good but once again too late, things like this should of never been made lol, but that's my opinion, I have the same perspective on Pest Control.

I think that it is good.

Chinning takes the achievement out of 99 range. Many people want it, but cant afford to chin. they go into with a shortbow (or crossbow) and some arrows and after many months they achieve their goal. With chinning however it takes about two weeks.

Fair enough, saving up the money to get the chinchompas is quite difficult, but there are easy ways to make money requiring little effort.
