But in all, honesty, Columbus didn't purposefully kill and enslave the Indians. That's like blaming (I think it was Einstein?) for the atom bomb being dropped on Japan.

 

Columbus just discovered the Americas, his followers* were the ones who moved in.

Someone obviously knows absolutely nothing about history.

 

 

Columbus forced the Taíno, the tribe on the island, to mine gold for him and if they didn't meet their quota (which was likely since there was next to no gold on the island) him and his men would cut their hands off and leave them to bleed out. When he returned on I want to say his final voyage (not positive) he found that they had rebelled, and him and his men killed hundreds of them.

 

Edit: it was his second trip actually.

 

 

No need for harsh words, honestly. This forum is way too quick at jumping on a gun and shooting down people. First off, take it with a grain of salt that you think that Columbus/Settlers were harsh murderers, where if anything they were simply proving Evolution. TTanT disagrees, don't hang him for it.

And those are historically documented events. I'm not telling him that he should hate Columbus, I was just saying that he was certainly responsible for violence towards native people. Although to be fair the first line wasn't totally necessary.

 

Actually, I'd say I'd say I know a fair amount about history, being in AP courses for it, and being a total medieval warfare fanboy. It seems I was dead wrong here, though.

However, this is the first I've ever heard of Columbus himself actually abusing Natives. Could I have a link to an article on it? (I'm not doubting your statement, I just think it'd be interesting to read about.) Or, would it be in a reliable article on Wikipedia?

Yea I didn't mean to say that, meant to say they were practicing survival of the fittest, I was also talking about Evolution on a different forum, and I got them confused XD. So disregard that sentence.

 

And you're right, Columbus did commit some of that, but why? Let's see..... What did Columbus do before he set sail? Oh yea. Begged for flipping money. I'm always going to side with the settlers essentially, if only because I've reviewed all the facts incredibly extensively *regarding the entire colonization process* and unless someone can provide evidence that will convince me otherwise. People paint Indians in these victim portraits, no idea why.

I've admittedly been using wikipedia as a back up to my prior knowledge, but I took a native studies class last year and I had a bunch of articles relating to it. I'll look for some I guess.

 

 

And I think this is why they're seen as the victim saru, other than the fact that they were invaded and murdered:

That's by Columbus himself. Native people didn't have war in the way Europeans did, there was no reason for them to. Sure they fought other tribes sometimes but there was never real war. Almost all disputes were one on one or settled in "games". In the event that a fight between too tribes broke out, the winning tribe took in the families of the warriors killed and made them part of their own families. I don't want to come off sounding like they were perfect because they weren't but they far more peaceful than the European settlers.

 

I don't want to derail this thread any further, so I'm not going to get really into it.

Well, work was fantastic towards the end. I was support tonight, which means I helped anyone who needed help; obviously. About halfway through the night our QA (Quality Assurance) Lead decides that she's going to screw up literally every order possible and send out the wrong food to half the restaurant. Upon realizing what had happened she basically walked out. So me being the support I take the reins, fix the food, clear our screen (which was entirely black [black screen means every order is done and waiting to be taken out] with 22 pages of backed orders), sort everything out with the customers, and assure them that the managers will be compensating them. I was praised, got promoted to QA Lead permanently, and got to leave early because the managers decided I had done enough and deserved to have the rest of the night off. Go me? :thumbup: ;)

Last term of school starts, get mock exam results back... Fairly bad. Damn decribe/explain/discuss questions in physics are really killer, I get everything right in the calculations and then that brings me right back down to just passing, which is partially because of how the system works here which is stupid.

Chem went better then expected and calculus.. well I passed all my papers so thats about what I expected so not bad so far, will get stats and english back tomorrow. Not like these really mean anything anyway but oh well.

I was in the bathroom, meditating on the toilet when two bad things happened. One; I realized my foot was basking in a bed of my brother's pubes and two; the bright green jacket of a builder's became apparent through the frosted glass of the window. That was not fun.

 

Today I've noticed that when my hair is greasy, it falls in the way I want it to fall when it's not greasy. Man, that is unfair. My mum is to blame, she shaved my hair off when I was kid so it could grow back thick. Well now I'm left with this *points to mop on top of head* *sobs*. It's alright, it's not like I have a very active social life that people care about my hair.

 

I've also realized that once you stop an addiction (i.e Runescape), you pick up another (i.e Uncharted 2). I need to focus all that energy onto something productive :\

But an Uncharted addiction ends at some point: the game only goes on for so long, unlike RS.
