September 25, 200817 yr really PETA? ...really? i dont have much to say other than this seems ridiculous to me. but i would like to draw specific attention to part of the letter PETA wrote: Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. ah, yes. it all makes sense now. milk from a cow causes cancer. PETA went to some real lengths to draw the connection between milk and cancer (and diabetes, obesity, etc.) making an allegation like that would be similar to saying that someone ate several steaks in one week, then three years later he got cancer, so obviously steak causes cancer. http://www.wptz.com/news/17539127/detail.html WATERBURY, Vt. -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman. "PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the statement says. PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health. "The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn't make sense," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Everyone knows that 'the breast is best,' so Ben & Jerry's could do consumers and cows a big favor by making the switch to breast milk." "We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child," said a spokesperson for Ben and Jerry's. here is the letter PETA wrote: September 23, 2008 Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, Cofounders Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc. Dear Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield, On behalf of PETA and our more than 2 million members and supporters, I'd like to bring your attention to an innovative new idea from Switzerland that would bring a unique twist to Ben and Jerry's. Storchen restaurant is set to unveil a menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk procured from human donors who are paid in exchange for their milk. If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers-and cows-would reap the benefits. Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it may play a role in anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease-America's number one cause of death. Animals will also benefit from the switch to breast milk. Like all mammals, cows only produce milk during and after pregnancy, so to be able to constantly milk them, cows are forcefully impregnated every nine months. After several years of living in filthy conditions and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, their exhausted bodies are turned into hamburgers or ground up for soup. And of course, the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Because male calves can't produce milk, dairy farmers take them from their mothers immediately after birth and sell them to veal farms, where they endure 14 to17 weeks of torment chained inside a crate so small that they can't even turn around. The breast is best! Won't you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow's milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry's ice cream? Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Tracy Reiman Executive Vice President

September 25, 200817 yr But, think of the harm it would cause women to produce all that milk! I think we, as humans, should hurt other humans, instead of dosile animals. Oh PETA.... ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!

September 25, 200817 yr And this is why PETA fails and need to stop being so over-protective of animals. i mean seriously, we've been drinking cow milk for thousands of years now, we don't all have diabetes or anything from it. Plus, human breast milk? Wouldn't that raise the chance of AIDS or something by a larger amount than cow milk diabetes, wheras AIDS is a lot worse than diabetes? September 25, 200817 yr The problem is where would they get all the milk from? I mean seriously a factory uses how much cow milk per day, and I highly doubt there are huge lines of topless women hooked up to machines on a daily basis. And if there is one all I have to say is no pics, no proof. If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person.
September 25, 200817 yr Honestly, they're gonna have to jab us women with a lot of hormones before we can produce that amount of milk for ice cream. And that alone is a health hazard. Yes PETA, save the animals all you like, but did you think this idea through carefully before proposing it to Ben & Jerry's? I think not. I can see it on the job applications now: "Will you be willing to subject yourself to a milking machine to produce our products?" :wall: Adventurer's Log || YouTube || Facebook || Tip.it Times Work || Wanna Join the Editorial Panel?Maxed Out 01 October 2012 PDT

September 25, 200817 yr So what's Peta's solution? The only way this will take off if is sweatshops are set up in Asia where women are connected to breastpumps 8 hours a day for low wages. Yes Peta@ well done on that one, we all know how important it is to [bleep] up more humans lives so a couple of cows are happy  Seriously, I've lost all respect for PETA now, I think I might send them some B%J Chocolate Fudge Brownie to piss them off.
September 25, 200817 yr This is just disgusting, and vile. The people at PETA must be a bunch of real perverts, or are run by ten year old's, if they are coming up with [Fingers]ideas[/Fingers] such as this. Think about the long term affects of this on the women. They are not cows, were milk is produced readily every day. The only natural way for them to produce breast milk is by giving birth to off spring, so there children would be left unattended and away from there parents for many hours. Imagine the effects it would have on the women after a 4+ years... My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.
September 25, 200817 yr According to How It's Made, Cow's actually like being milked. I'm assuming this means only lactating cows, and I'm not sure if all cows lactate all the time.

September 25, 200817 yr Think about the long term affects of this on the women. They are not cows, were milk is produced readily every day. The only natural way for them to produce breast milk is by giving birth to off spring, so there children would be left unattended and away from there parents for many hours. Imagine the effects it would have on the women after a 4+ years... In the defense of cows, they are very similar to women. Err, let me rephrase that. A cow gives milk as long as you milk her. Similarly, a women can produce milk for her baby for many years as well. The production of milk only ends when you stop milking. Milk cows actually have a calf very regularly (and indeed, forcefully) to be at their best production. Or they are given an amount of hormones similar to those in the blood of a pregnant cow. The reason why cows like being milked, is because they're bursting with it when they're milked regularly: a calf needs to be fed regularly, right? Like some women leak milk when they have a baby they don't breastfeed (rather embarassing). PETA suggested a silly idea for certain, but don't fool yourselves into believing that the milk you consume every day is animal harm-free.
September 25, 200817 yr But, think of the harm it would cause women to produce all that milk! I think we, as humans, should hurt other humans, instead of dosile animals. Oh PETA.... Exactly. It's typical of a bunch like PETA to put the welfare of animals over humans. It's completely unrealistic to expect to replace the whole dairy industry by harvesting human milk. Even if you payed everyone who gave milk, I seriously doubt you'd have enough. Besides, who would want to drink it and what dairy farmer would want those kind of overheads? Just to add, I'd be seriously skeptical taking information from an organisation as ideologically driven as PETA. They claim that drinking milk is linked to allergies, which is accurate, but so is eating peanuts. The point is that a few people will show food allergies to various food types; that's no excuse for the rest of us to stop eating that particular type of food. To be fair, there is some research out there that links milk consumption to increased risk of prostate and ovarian cancer, but there's also some research linking milk with lower colon cancer and lower breast cancer in premenopausal women. But would PETA ever say something like "cow's milk is a potential benefit to your health by..." No, of course not. They're the kind of people who always love to stretch the truth (or at least be economical with it) to emotionally blackmail people.
September 25, 200817 yr Heres something I found on another of one of the forums i frequent: The USA consumes 1,550,000,000 gallons of ice cream each year. Or 176,819 gallons/hour. 1 gallon of ice cream uses ~ 178 ounces of milk So they would need to generate 31,473,876 ounces of breast milk every hour to keep up with the current demand for ice cream. Average rate of breast milk production per healthy woman 1 ounce/hour. So if we enslaved ~ 31 million women we could keep up with the current demand for ice cream in the USA. http://www.gpforums.co.nz/thread/328348/?s=
September 25, 200817 yr Seriously, I've lost all respect for PETA now You hadn't already? PETA are [developmentally delayed]s.... 31 Million women, they're dreaming right? I'm pretty sure they're taking things too far, not many people cared about how cows are treated anyway, they'd be dead if they wern't...Who'd look after so many cows for no reason? September 25, 200817 yr According to How It's Made, Cow's actually like being milked. I'm assuming this means only lactating cows, and I'm not sure if all cows lactate all the time. Ah yes, family guy had a great clip on a cow enjoying her job. On topic: Ben & Jerry's produces a massive amount of dairy products. Sure, a small Swiss company can do it. They don't have millions of customers. But a massive company like B&J? We'd require a lot of women for it, stuff em with a lot of hormones, and not to mention the indignity of having your breasts squeezed for 6 hours a day. I'm fairly certain the average woman can't just keep spewing out milk for hours on end. Besides, how would it affect the taste? Goat milk has a drastic taste difference from cows. But what about humans? A person's diet and lifestyle can affect milk quality, quantity, and not to mention taste. And if I'm not mistaken, isn't is it possible for HIV to be passed through breast milk? [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers.
