July 25, 200817 yr Watched Team America again last night. Man, if you're in the mood for that kind of humor, it is great.. :D There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.
July 27, 200817 yr I went on a classic Humphrey Bogart movie streak. Casablanca last night and The Maltese Falcon tonight. They just don't make 'em how they used to. Two of the most famous movie quotes of all time come from those two movies. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
July 27, 200817 yr Just saw the Dark Knight! Awesome movie, though it had me confused a bit.. need to go see it again
July 27, 200817 yr United 94, the film about the plane destined to hit the Capitol on Septermber 11th. Shockingly bad. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
July 27, 200817 yr Author Un Chien Andalou It had been a while since I last saw this movie. When I was on vacation I read a book on Bunuel and it really made me want to see his movies again. So when I got back from vacation the first thing I did was watch this movie. And I still really love it. It's so, how do you say it, mysterious...Intangible. The one moment you are are terribly shocked, the other moment it's hilarious. A fantastic movie that really tore down all conventions. Man: Hey, my mouth is gone, Woman: I don't care, I'll do my lips, man: It's a little bald. Here with your armpit hair, Woman: Pff, then I'll just go. Hilarious. Le Charme discret de la bourgeoisie Another fantastic Bunuel. From his later period in France, with Carriere helping in the screenplay. It's really bizare as usual. I love the satire on the Bourgeoisie; it's not too sharp, or unfriendly, but in a kind of discreet way. I also love the actors in this movie. Espeically Fernando Rey, man, what a hero he is. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
July 28, 200817 yr Ohhh, Un Chien Andalou. Some of its scenes will haunt me a lifetime (the eye, uuuuurrrrrrghhh). It really does push you from one end to the other. I'm glad I saw it, but... never again. I recently saw: Cruel Intentions - Les Liaisons Dangereuses in a modern setting. Sometimes a bit unbelievable, and sometimes going for cheap wins, this is still an enjoyable film. Good acting jobs by the young actors, especially by Reese Witherspoon, the girl does have talent. That combined with wicked dialogues makes this quite different from your thirteen-in-a-dozen-spotty-teenager-films. Worth the watch. Holiday - Third time I saw it, and still loving it. Cukor makes an admittedly shabby plot sparkle and sizzle. Intelligent, sexy and funny. Superb acting, even/especially by the minor characters. Next weekend, I'm going to give a shot at a 24 hour marathon of big film hits (Casablanca, The Terminator, Silence of the Lambs and unknown others) at a local cinema. I'm curious to see how long I'll last.
July 30, 200817 yr Blood Diamond, very good and dramatic movie. Never did I really ever think that far of how a Diamond really ends up on some girls ring. All the bloodshed, hate, mistrust; betrayal and deceit is truly eye-opening. I'll be damn sure to at least try to buy a 'conflict-free' diamond for a future wife. "God has left this place a long time ago" Truly a powerful quote which describes the lack of respect for human life in this particular region of Africa, how something as small as a clear rock, can lead to the death of many innocent people. Highly recommend it to anyone.

I'm curious to see how long I'll last. Oh, I'd love to do something like that. Anyway, last film I watched was Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid. Seen it before still as good as ever. Not quite as good as The Wild Bunch maybe, and Bob Dylan really can not act. However his music more than makes up for that. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. July 30, 200817 yr Author Living Interesting short by Frans Zwartjes. The film has got two characters. Frans himself, and his wife Trix. They are in their new house, and they just film. Crazy angles, and very sexy (like more of his work). I really love it. I realize it's not for everyone though. Trafic The last Monsieur Hulot film made. I think that it is less good than the three before this one. It's not so strange, because the development of Hulot kind of stopped with Play Time. Which is a shame already, because it made the movies extra interesting. And Play Time was really 'big' but also a flop, so it was hard to get something equaly ambitious on. Still it's a nice movie, with the usual Tati chaos. For example: there's constantly people speaking Dutch, English and French in the same scene. There's something else I noticed. And that's Bert Haanstra's influence on this movie. It's not so strange, because the two movie makers have got the same ideas on making comedy; both observe the ordinary life and find comedy in that. And Haanstra also worked on this movie. But I would have never expected that a Tati movie would look like a Haanstra movie in so many ways. Beauty and the Beast In my memory this was a very magical movie. Not so strange, I was about 6 when I saw it. Obviously there was less magic this time. But it still is my favorite Disney movie. Today I went to the beach, when we got back I tried to watch another Zwartjes short, but I was so tired that I fell asleep. :o Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
July 31, 200817 yr Author Wall-E I don't think I've seen a movie aimed at younger audiences since George from the Jungle, at the cinema at least. I'm not a big animation fan, but when I saw Ratatouille I thought it was fantastic. So I wanted to see the new Pixar movie in cinema. And it was a fantastic movie! I thought it was perfect. Normally the Pixar movies take a bit too long, but this one was perfect. I liked both parts of the movie, and I thought it was excellent how they made those long silences acceptable for everybody. Not an easy thing to do. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
August 1, 200817 yr John Q. starring Denzel Washington, made back in 2002. Great movie, I havn't seen it in years, so I went to go watch it. If you havn't seen this movie, go see it. I'm pretty untounched when it comes to movies, but uh, this movie got the best of me.

At the end where the kid flexes... "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
August 2, 200817 yr The X Files 2: I want to believe. Exactly as I expected before watching it - It was a good and interesting movie. For fans. It wasn't an exceptional story, it wasn't particularly suspenseful or 'paranormal' even. It did paint a believable picture of how the main characters are, 5 years from their running off from the FBI. I watched it as more of a character study than be curious about how the story evolves, since it was more interesting to see Mulder and Scully react to the events and to each other than how the story would play out (which was in the end, quite predictable). There were the issues of faith, morality, borderline medical experiments, which have always been present in the X Files. And of course the very complex relationship between Mulder and Scully. There were some in-jokes for faithful fans. Of course, a movie based on the 'myth-arc' (like the first X Files movie) would have been better. (I also think mythology episodes are generally better than stand-alones). But anyway I'm glad this movie was finally made, since the series ended a bit annoyingly for me. Actually, after the first movie and the move to LA (season 6 onwards) things started going progressively downhill for this show (admittedly with outstanding exceptions such as 'Field Trip', 'The Unnatural','The Goldberg Variation', and a few others) and it all culminated with seasons 8 and 9 (which was thankfully the last), which were almost entirely without Mulder and featured other agents in charge of the x files investigating more or less boring cases (I don't know, I never watched them). Oh and the very last episodes, named very bombastically The Truth I and The Truth II were sort of a let down in terms of story telling. Basically they just wanted everything over and done with all of a sudden, all the characters accounted for and no loose ends left untied and they hurried to a more or less inspired ending. The very end however - the end scene, got me. It was touching. Not to get sidetracked, though, talking about the show. Back to the movie - which was a decent follow-up. Not amazing but not bash-worthy either. Don't watch it unless you're a fan and unless you know and love the main characters, or you will find yourself bashing it because you just didn't get what the big deal was. :P Oh yeah and if you do watch it, stay until the credits end, or you'll miss a cute little scene. "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."
August 3, 200817 yr Watched Dark Knight a few weeks ago, it was good. But more recently, since I'm pretty much home alone all weekend, I thought I'd rent some movies. Went in to blockbuster with only a loose plan (some combination of Alien, Pan's Labyrinth, Amos Perros and Lost in Translation), and ended up renting Alien, Goldfinger, and Brick. I got there and started thinking and figured "I want some fun movies", and so that's what I got. Just watched Alien...It was good, not great. Never actually seen it in its entirity before, but I was sort of expecting a bit more. I'll probably get around to watching Aliens sometime...my movie watching has slowed way down to almost a stop since I went to university. It seems like I'm home for less big blocks of time, and when I am at home it seems there's too many distractions (and watching movies in dorm on a monitor with bad speakers is no fun). I'm also just not really in a movie watching phase right now (sorta in a comic books and literature phase, and I think the next two phases are going to be video games and anime...). I think next year I might sign up for Netflix, I think access to a much bigger library of movies that come right to my door would be just the ticket. But in the meantime, I'm excited to watch Goldfinger and Brick tommorow. And to Indy: I found the Southland Tales comic book in the comic book store, so I'll hopefully finish it and watch the movie by the end of this month. I'm excited  .
August 4, 200817 yr And to Indy: I found the Southland Tales comic book in the comic book store, so I'll hopefully finish it and watch the movie by the end of this month. I'm excited  . Don't get your hopes up to far, not too many people liked it like I did. Reading the graphic novel right before hand definitely should help though :D .
August 4, 200817 yr The Green Mile - http://thegreenmile.warnerbros.com/ The best movie I've seen since I Am Legend. And it's probably THE best book to movie adaptation. Here's a synopsis. The Green Mile is a story told in flashback by an elderly Paul Edgecomb (played by veteran actor Dabbs Greer as his final film role) in a nursing home. He tells a friend about the summer of 1935 when he was a corrections officer in charge of Death Row inmates in Louisiana's Cold Mountain Penitentiary. His domain was called "The Green Mile" because the condemned prisoners walking to their execution are said to be walking "the last mile" here, on a stretch of green linoleum. The main feature of the cellblock was "Old Sparky", the electric chair. One day, a new inmate arrives, John Coffey, a muscular 7 foot tall black male convicted of raping and killing two young white girls. Upon being escorted to his cell, he immediately demonstrates "gentle giant" character traits: keeping to himself, afraid of the dark, and being moved to tears on occasion. Thats all I can post without giving anything away, but I highly recommend it! This film WILL make you cry! Get back here so I can rub your butt.
August 4, 200817 yr Goldfinger - Solid Bond, though I'm not really much of a fan to be honest. This is said to be the best in the series, and I thought it was good, but nothing terribly special. A good watch. Brick - Quite good, but made bad by constant Rewinds...The dialogue is fast and hard to catch with the slang, and my audio is pretty weak. And it's noir, and therefore a relentless onslaught of characters and its hard to get everyone's motives straight without pausing to work it over. It took nearly 3 hours to watch this movie, and its playtime is under 2. I actually watched the first 25 minutes and apparently wasn't paying attention because I had no idea what was going on. So I completely restarted the movie at that time. I still thought it was pretty great, though this is the kind of movie you will have to get back to me on. It took me months to figure out that The Machinist was amazing. No lies.
August 4, 200817 yr Mr. Brooks - great movie, really loved it. Interesting story, and Costner is a good actor, even if he madesome poo poo back in the day. The Dark Knight - Joker is one awesome character. Saw it twice, and it held up the second time, it's a really enjoyable movie.
August 4, 200817 yr Garden State - A fantastic movie. Zach Braff was amazing in it. I had high hopes for this movie, and they were fulfilled. It had lots of insight in it. It was surprisingly optimistic at times. It was dead serious, melancholy and bittersweet, funny and happy, and it was just a wide variety of emotions. It was a mix of everything. It stimulated the mind. It was a great watch. I definitely recommend this movie.
August 4, 200817 yr I've been on a miniature Woody Allen spree after watching Annie Hall again. Watched Manhattan and then Bullets Over Broadway, and loved both of them. John Cusack playing a Woody Allen character sounded too good to miss. La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

August 4, 200817 yr I havn't gone out to see a movie in at least 3 months :-# . 8 dollars a movie=nty Just go see the really good ones in the cinema, and rent out the rest. That's what I do ;)
August 5, 200817 yr Be Kind Rewind Planet Terror Death Proof Half Baked Hero Wanted The Incredible Hulk Iron Man Michael Clayton Semi-Pro Strange Wilderness Street Kings There Will Be Blood 21 28 Weeks Later I watched all those movies in the past month. The only ones I didn't like were Michael Clayton and Death Proof. The best one was probably Iron Man, There Will Be Blood wasn't as good as I thought it would be.
August 5, 200817 yr Author Caos Calmo The new Nanni Moretti film. Although he direct it this time. He still wrote it, did the production and he stars as the main character. His touch is also felt troughout the movie. I really enjoyed it. It's hard to tell why exactly. But I felt really connected to the main character. I recognized a lot of myself in his character, so I guess that's why it is that way. And do you really need more?
