200M in all Skills

Mod Dean/Siefried (?) just said on the RS community stream that the potion fishing/hunting/etc could result in bans/xp rollbacks and to expect a nerf soon. No time stamp, watching live.

Edit: probably 5 to 10 minutes before the end.

That's absolutely ridiculous.

I didn't abuse it at all, but still, it's a legitimate method. It takes advantage of a game mechanic, not a bug.

Agreed. Just posting as a warning to some people.

Update: 2:19:30 to 2:19:45 or so is when its said.

The potion trick is in the borderland, in my opinion, but I didn't have a problem with people doing it, since it most definitely required more attention for it. What I do hope, is that Jagex would make a warning post about borderline game mechanic use/abuse so that people will have a chance to stop doing it before bans are handed out. When Jagex have gone so long without banning about it, and even fixed the re-drinking ovl part that were used a year ago, then it's hard for the community to suddenly understand what is and what is not allowed.

Again - I don't care too much about it being for or against the rules, as long as they're clear about it.

Aren't all bugs technically "taking advantage of a game mechanic"?

The difference is - and this is just my personal guess / what I reckon - that if a game mechanic is functioning normally, and the player uses that mechanic cleverly to gain some advantage, that's allowed. If the game mechanic is somehow broken or faulty, and a player uses that to gain an advantage, that's bug abuse.

It's hard to figure out with the potion-drinking-tick-saving mechanic, because clearly the way animations are designed they can cancel other animations, and this allows certain actions to occur faster than normal, and there doesn't seem to be anything "broken" about that, but Jagex probably didn't intend for that to be able to be used to gain faster exp than otherwise. In my opinion this is a case of an unintended feature. Jagex have every right to nerf it, as they didn't intend for the drinking potions to have that effect. However, as the feature was functioning perfectly normally, although with an unintended effect, I don't think they should punish players for using it, as at the time they used it it was just how the game worked, it wasn't an error, it was an unintended consequence of a deliberate feature (the animation for drinking a potion)

This issue has been in the game for years (remember shark-brewing??) and if Jagex want to remove it then they should do that, but punishing people for using an aspect of the game that has existed longer than most Jmods have worked at Jagex is not fair.

I doubt I'll get rolled back though, all of my days with that method were like 500k-2m days because I usually train like 5 different skills a day now, so I never got any 'massive' gains from it. My 5.9m hunt day like 3 weeks ago was just from hunting normally (before Drowns released his video I wasn't aware this mechanic even affected hunter tbh) for like 21 hours straight.

I know Drowns and Geel (judging from fishing/agil/strength gains) have been using it but I definitely don't think either of them should even be rolled back any xp at all.

Honestly I'll be sad to see this method go (from hunting anyway, the fishing gains were ridiculous). It's only a 15-20% bonus per hour and it requires more effort and more advanced timing. I was looking forward to getting my last 80m-odd hunter xp with it because I actually enjoyed training that way because I found it more fluid, but I guess Jagex knows best...

So if its only massive gains from the method only a few will be affected......but if its people that just used the method then some people will get banned for a super trivial reason.

It's a shame potion fishing was as fast as it was, which will probably get the whole method nerfed, because potion hunting was an appropriate increase in xp/hr for the increase in APM. (And we need more of that sort of thing)

G0d vs D3vil unbanned and Jake says he quit.

Going to say Jake will come back after a well deserved break. He is training (in my opinion) a horrendous skill.

Had a look on the Jagex website careers section- They're looking for someone to develop rs3 for tablets. This could give a major increase to peoples access and xp-gains, considering how widespread 3G is, I can imagine large amounts of people doing casual skilling when out and about.

I'm curious as to how things like combat will work, touch screen abilities might be quite nice.

It would be useful for skills like thieving after Ibis or fletching, where you just tap the same bit of screen over and over again. Or for afking cwars during lectures for 'free' trim.

Allar (Skiller/Aasiwat) is now 2495 total and should be 2496 reasonably soon if he continues, which would put him at around rank 19/20. It says a lot that despite his inactivity for so long, as well as the huge increases in xp rates since he quit, only 18 players have managed to beat him. It's not like he had a bloated total xp either, a lot of his xp is in slower skills.
