12-Apr-2010 - Dungeoneering Skill!

Oh, and that's another thing... skills don't have tutorials. Minigames do. Soul Wars, Castle Wars, Stealing Creation, Barbarian Assault, etc.

Summoning comes to mind. Seeing as it was the most recent skill released before Dungeoneering, I'd say jagex is looking to start explaining all of their new skills.

I don't remember any Summoning tutorial... I remember a quest, called Wolf Whistle, but no actual tutorial. Herblore had that same thing, a quest that introduced the skill. And an introductory quest is far different from an uninformative minigame tutorial.

fuer grissa ost drauka

"Once committed to fight, cut. Everything else is secondary, cut. That is your duty, your purpose, your hunger. There is no rule more important, no committment that overrides that one. Cut. Cut from the void, not from bewilderment. Cut the enemy as quickly and directly as possible. Cut with certainty. Cut decisively, resolutely. Cut into his strength. Flow through the gaps in his guard. Cut him. Cut him down utterly. Don't allow him a breath. Cut him without mercy to the depths of his spirit. It is the balance of life: death. It is the dance with death."

"Dance with me, Death." Bringer of death. "I am ready."

First of all, while you can solo, this is a secondary option. it's clearly designed for group play. Much like GWD, while you can solo it it is rather despite the fact that it is meant to be teamed.

Second, it's slow and tedious. I find it rather repetitive and not very rewarding.

Third: It's a minigame, not a skill.

Fourth: It's like Shattered Heart but with some combat.

Fifth: It's a skill made up of every other kind of skill. Interesting concept, but in this case I think it's failed.

In summary, I think the skill falls in the category of Mobiliging Armies. I think Jagex was too blinded by the concept, interesting to code, large size of update, and the graphics involved. And I think they had a bit of a "Honeymoon phase" when playing it because of all the hard work into it they were predisposed to liking it. I think they saw it as a little brighter than it was.

Now that most of players are in it, well... they don't like it. Let's be real here. The whole community is taking a dump on it. Granted they may be able to tweak and fix it, but from what you read of their posts they seriously believed that people were going to love this from day one. They are not.

Fourth's wrong. It's Stealing Creation but labelled as a skill.

At the moment I HATE the new skill, I honestly would of preferred Sailing at this point of time, it's more like a minigame than a Skill...

Rav, it's not like SC because SC doesn't have Farming. So it's like Shattered Heart + Combat or SC + Farming.

And Omali, basing that on what I've seen on here and talking to people on RS.

Most, as far I can tell, don't seem to care for it much.

So something new and different comes along, and all you guys do is complain that it isnt the same old crap.

"This isnt a skill, its a mini game!"

Who gives? I remember people saying the same crap when Slayer was released. Dungeoneering is something that brings you to a specific area, you engage with the content for a certain ammount of time, and then you are rewarded with exp. Sounds like a skill to me.

I agree that this is quite a bit more like a minigame than a skill.

With that said, I noticed complaints about having to rely on others for this. There's two options around this: play solo (already mentioned) and you can also change the exp so that it isn't shared. That way if you find you're doing the brunt of the work you'll get most of the exp, eliminating freeloaders in teams. Though with that second option I think you'd need to be the party leader.

I've seen a lot of people complaining about it being a skill, but I don't understand why it is a problem that it is calles a skill, does this devaluate the content in some way? I don't mind them calling it a skill as long as the content is good, which it is without a doubt.

Did you find soloing was not a viable option? What things did you find yourself doing repetitively?

I guess I'm gonna jump up a lot in ranks if everyone claiming they are done with the game really quit... Fine with me tbh!

You're looking at a replica of almost every skill and skill resources within this one single skill, when they can just use the resources we had, from potions to food to armour. You're looking at a list of over 500 new items easily, some filling existing level gaps, some beyond the best of what we have, but only within the dungeon. You're looking at this mini-underground RuneScape world, that brings the real RuneScape world a few new level 80 gear that has nothing to do with what you saw and used in the dungeon.

...

It's like they put the game in a bottle inside of itself... renaming every ore, wood, herb, food, etc. The learning curve on what to keep and what to drop is a [bleep] and slows things down considerably. And some wiseass at Planet Jagex named a lot of the tunes "Glacialis" HA FREAKING HA

The armors & weaponry look good, I will have to admit. Thumbs up on that.

But the concept - eh, I'm not smitten, either in solo or group mode. YMMV.

PvP is not for me

D, I found the whole thing repetitive because of the slow skill experience that you, as a solo player, have to do the same floors over and over again for the minimal experience. It just wears and tears on your patience until you find something more interesting.

That's just my experience with it though.

I am a little confused. I'm only level 4 dungeoneering atm, but I have a question. If I go up to like 80 dungeoneering, am I going to be running dungeons that are much more difficult? Or what..

In other words, how will the training of this skill change as I level. I know the answer is probably in the manual, but I am really confused by all the loads of terminology.

Gets harder as you get it up. At different levels you face different bosses that are different levels.
