Aggresive: Slash

Controlled: Stab

Defensive: Slash

 

Crapier

Attack: Stab

Nobody uses anything else because they need the increased accuracy on chickens.

Im assuming then that the Rapier uses its slash to train strength, and is pretty much just a preferred weapon for a person with max stats?

 

And the CLS could be used well against pretty much any NPC?

Rapier uses stab to train strength.

 

CLS is terrible on any NPC. It's only useful for PvP.

Okay, just wanted to clear that up because I can see why someone would choose CLS if you had to train str with Rapier's slash option. Thanks.

You're pretty much backwards there. The only way CLS is good for anything is if you have a divine spirit shield and are using it to tank at Sara GWD. It's also about tied with rapier at Bandos if you're using a divine- with a defender the rapier is a lot better even there.

 

The rapier is an all-around weapon that can be used effectively on almost any NPC (barring waterfiends and skeletal wyverns), the CLS is slightly better in a couple of very high level situations.

 

With the rapier and maul, you won't miss CLS a bit.

 

Edit: The rapier trains attack with stab, strength with both stab AND slash, and defense with stab. It can train strength with stab.

i made an advanced breakdown of strengths/weaknesses

 

high hits: rapier 7 cls 9

looks: rapier 2 cls 10

xp/hr: rapier 10 cls 8

X factor: rapier 0 cls 10

 

totals: cls 38 rapier 19

 

cls is twice as good gf (i like to think of zarfot's videos, saying "good fight")

 

in more useful news, rapiers don't stack in bank even if they have identical charges

cks>eeks>spec in rangevrange

spec>eeks in arma

spec>eeks if you melee

 

arc>fks but in general a mage-boosting shield is better than the other two

 

if you have like 150m randomly to throw away though, go for arc/spec. but since dg tokens are so easy to get i prefer fks/eeks

 

idk, for shields it really depends on your playstyle unlike weapons where rapier is just... useful everywhere. cks>fks>eeks makes sense for the average bandos/MH/slayer type, but fks>cks>eeks for pvpers

Okay I already got rapier/ccbow/rigour/maul, and t9 zerker/desp. Got 200k tokens again, wondering what to get. Only mh I really do is arma (mercenary gloves any good?), or should I just save tokens?

Arc/vigour are useful situationally.

But, people are forgetting that... It's... a... game...

 

An MMO none the less. Where people can make their own choices, and do what they want. So what's keeping someone who wants a CLS from getting a CLS? People telling them that they're a noob for wanting so and should get the CR because it's better.

 

It's best for people to know exactly what is best for what, but still choose what they want to. And not be prosecuted for it.

 

 

But, if course, this is the internet. And that will never happen. So we're stuck with this same futile struggle we've had time and time again for countless other items.

Well, the discussion of what is "best" normally turns out to be an argument based on personal opinion. Which is why i worded my post the way i did. Generally referencing the whole CR/CLS debate.

 

But, since it's already been proven that the CR is general better then the CLS, i find it funny that topics like this are still made and discussed about a lot.

 

What i would like to see is research of exactly how better CR is then CLS at training/boss hunting. And if in fact that the whip has better DPM then CLS at training. Like maybe EXP/hr figures.

 

Maybe someone has already done this research, I'm not quite sure. I haven't read this entire thread and i haven't really looked into other discussions on the forum.

Quick question.

 

Given that I already have a Divine Spirit Shield, which would be the best choice, Chaotic Rapier or Longsword? Most people pretty much agree that Rapier/Defender is better than Longsword/Defender at GWD Bandos / Saradomin, but when it comes to including Divine, I've heard mixed answers. Some people say Longsword/Divine is significantly better than Rapier/Divine, others say they're pretty much even. Which is it, really, and how big is the difference?

 

I'm currently leaning Rapier, as I can use it for Slayer if I ever feel like it. Also, for solo-ing bosses, I can always bring and equip a defender if it looks like I need the extra damage output (read: get crashed).
