Actually looking back now, vines were faster than earth and storms were faster than balls. So bloody skulls and pools did not fit the trend. Which would suggest that levels after the requirement would have a larger effect.

For curiosity, would anyone care to post the P2P experience rates they've been getting (and not afking)?

I averaged at around 100k xp/h from 97-99 RC.

Lvl 80-85, probably been on around 3 to 3.5 hours a day this week (well 6 days) when averaged out and been distracted to not perfect xp rates.

1.3m xp gained, so around 60k-70k xp:hr

Thought I'd attack the most efficient XP/hour another way. These are either 100 attacks (siphons) on the esslings or 200 attacks on the esshounds. I'll be doing the last esshound and two esswraiths (w/ 300 attempts) in a bit. This gives you a simple XP average per siphon which gives a decent xp/hour gauge. My assumption, backed by early results, is that the success rate on creatures corresponds to success rates on nodes. I'll also be testing nodes for completion sakes.

Long term should have players gathering data based on every 5 levels (99, 95, 90, 85, etc). This'll give the best guide on what players should attempt for most efficient leveling.

Level 79 (skull nodes best)

essling (100 siphon attempts)

1. air - 8.31 xp

1. mind - 7.86 xp

5. water - 9.53 xp

9. earth - 10.26 xp

14. fire - 10.76 xp

esshounds (200 siphon attempts)

20. body - 13.51 xp

27. cosmic - 13.04 xp

35. chaos - 13.73 xp

40. astral - 14.37 xp

44. nats - 15.17 xp

54. law - 15.06 xp (.468 tokens)

esswraiths (300 siphon attempts)

65. death - 16.65 xp (.683 tokens)

77. blood - 15.61 xp (.63 tokens)

low nodes (>100 attempts)

1. cyclone - 15.57 xp

1. mind - 16.50 xp

5. water - 18.20 xp

9. rock - 21.50 xp

14. fireball -

17. vine - 21.98 xp (125 siphons)

med nodes (>100 attempts)

20. fleshy 27.285 (135 siphons)

27. firestorm

35. chaotic

40. nebula 34.817 xp (235 siphons)

49. shifter

54. jumper

high nodes

65. skulls

74. blood pools

Here is a quick test at level 90. I might collect more data later on.

B Pool	128	574	22.30%	146.00	97,672

Lol lemme just post my data to see what I have.

99 Runecrafting:

Type Siphons	Rune 1	Rune 2	%Hit	XP Tot	XP/Siphon
Undead Soul	660 82 D	60 S	21.5%	27138	41.1
Living Soul	103 18 S 17.4%	3834	37.2
Bloody Skulls	577 83 D	66 B	25.8%	23568	40.8
Blood Pool	58 11 B 18.9%	1606	27.6

Should also note that after failing 6 siphons in a row on a single cycle (i.e. click on node once and leave it), your next siphon will automatically hit.

Tests conducted without breaking cycles at all.

Living Soul and Blood Pool data sets might be too small to be indicative of anything, but looks at least like the rune ratios aren't 1:1 for multi-rune sources.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

@ Warriormonkx -- You just had to ask for it, didn't you?

@ Everyone Else --

Okay, so I've had a look at the RuneSpan... Impressive for exp gains, in my opinion, but very balanced. Well, give-or-take the nerf that has been dropped in... At least it wasn't hit too badly. <_<

Anyway, I'm officially calling this addition to the game junk until the crash issues are fixed. I've been getting hit at least once per session when changing sectors on the first floor's southwest areas and having to reload RuneScape whenever I'm in the RuneSpan, and I'm totally sick of it. Getting crashed with a Java memory leak because you want to check out the newest content is totally unacceptable. I still can't believe Jagex's RuneScape Developers were stupid enough to let the RuneSpan's addition out to the public without having this issue completely fixed! When will they get someone more competent in there? :wall:

Dev I have to say that sounds like an issue with your computer more than Jagex's fault.

I've not seen anyone else remotely mention this issue and that sort of memory leak issue would hit pretty much everyone (other than thoose with sooooooooo much RAM the leak just can't get tht big), it's possible you've got a corrupted cache file and/or partially corrupted java install that is causing the leak.

You haven't looked at the RSOF, have you? There are a lot more people than just me having the issue. -.-

Occasionally mine gets to 50% and crashes when I go to the second floor, but otherwise I'm fine. Are you sure it couldn't be something on your end?

Well I'm just going off the fact that I've spent all week in Runespan, spoke to a good few hundred people across the week + these forums + clan mates and it's not come up like at all.

Certainly it *could* be the case that a specific server sent out a corrupt file and everyone who loaded the update from that server is getting the issue, but even so clearing of rs cache would fix that, but it just does not sound like something that is broken with the game itself.

Plus I tend to take rsof reports with a pinch of salt since rsof tends to be littered with the type that could have a virus opening a pop-up every 5 minutes and still manage to think it was a problem caused by rs.

There is currently a memory leak in the world map that causes people to crash to safe mode until the game is reloaded ([qfc]25-26-187-63506974[/qfc]). I don't know about any others.

Anybody else getting these results on nodes?

Did they update Essence? I don't seem to be collecting anymore from just siphoning.

You never did get it from siphoning.

Creatures give you Essence when they die.

Nodes only give you runes.

This is the fundamental part of the mechanic that means you HAVE to use the creatures and their slightly worse xp in order to be able to later use the nodes. It is also why it's good to camp a small area of islands opposed to 100% node running; the periodic nodeless periods (or atleast nodes worth doing) means you grab the creature(s) and end up with some more ess.

The floating essence everywhere largely negates the necessity to siphon essence if you are at the keyboard and paying attention. That is my method.

Though floating ess is a bit of a pita since you can use more than 25 ess on 1 node.

My whole thing with runespan was to just camp one or two islands. I mean nodes are fairly common and when a good node isn't around the syphoning of creatures makes me more essence than I need for when the good nodes return. Honestly in my opinion higher tiered creatures spawn times should be upped because it's too easy to camp a couple islands and not have to move around. I have almost 6k essence after camping nearly 14k points on the two soul esswraith island.

Makes sense that a good friend chat dedicated to runespan should work. The one I tried (noderunners on w103) didn't do so well at announcing the node locations and cared more about chit chat. Still, a good friend chat channel should keep you up on a nearby node that may be worth running to. Reason being, more people will run to it making the node last longer. Plus, they're quicker at hunting down the sphere.

So is there a good runespan friend chat?
