HexiledRazz
I agree... Making a skill useful > making a skill AFK-able The extra 10% cooking xp isn't going to help tbh... I for one, support ANY sort of AFK methods. RS is too grindy to be practical for any sort of practical gaming. And even if you're hardcore, lighting fires in a line for hours and hours is... Just not fun. I'd rather throw logs onto a fire whilst i work on homework. And how exactly do you make a skill about lighting stuff on fire useful? Only thing i could guess is more incendiary weapons like the hand cannon. That have a lower requirement, but get better/easier to use as you level up. FIRE SWORDS PLS. Hexiled Razz. NukeMarine
Just as Runespan made runecrafting into a pseudo combat skill, you can do something similar with Firemaking (and other skills). For example, there could be a variant of Pyramid Plunder where you travel increasingly difficult areas to fight zombies and mummies using fire. Your only usable weapon can be something like a metal torch where higher level attack and firemaking is needed to wield, light, and attack with it. Each area can require increasing level of firemaking to access. Maybe you have a time limit to clear each area in order to access the next. Heck, there can even be slayer or other requirements to be able to attack the creatures. Probably more fun than just tossing logs on a camp fire. Alg
Making a skill useful > making a skill AFK-ableI'd like to think that making a skill easier to train would give them more of an excuse to make it useful at higher levels, but I don't think the same way that Jagex does... I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr

Kimberly
I agree... Making a skill useful > making a skill AFK-able The extra 10% cooking xp isn't going to help tbh... But that begs the question - can a skill like firemaking be MADE useful, without abolishing the skill altogether and starting from the ground up? I really don't think it can. RCing I understand being frustrated with, but this makes sense to me

RCing I understand being frustrated with, but this makes sense to meThey could add "burn" damage to weapons. Like a few posts above, we can have legit "flame swords". Kinda of like certain Pokemon moves. Higher firemaking levels = higher burn rates or more intense burn effects. Maybe burn damage takes a way 20 health and lowers attack by 5 every 15 seconds at 70 firemaking. Sy_Accursed
I don't think forcing firemaking into melee combat to make it useful is wise. Burn-damage seems more fire-mage related than anything, but I will touch on this later. What I do think would make it useful is giving firemaking based cooking more benefits over ranges. Like make fires make roasted shark instead of cooked shark and make roasted fish heal 10% more, could also make firemaking tie into furnaces eg you can add logs to temporarily make the furnace better so say adding magic logs could have an effect for all present of 2% xp boost per log up to say 20% and could have the personal boon for faster smelting or lower coal consumption. Could also perhaps tie firemaking (along with thieving, agility and farming [off the top of my head]) into normal magic with each giving a boon to an element. So light-fingered thieves are better with air mage & weaken etc, fluid movements of agility improve water mage and maybe teleports (not sure how), the kinship with nature of farming could aid earth mage and binding spells and mastery of firemaking could aid fire mage and introduce a burn damage effect etc. Basically just things where firemaking knowledge is logically applicable are kinda numerous and could easily make the skill more useful. Quyneax
FireMAKING is next to impossible to enhance in RS... Fire-USING I can think of a billion more additions to RS on...Even though the skill is called firemaking, it also involves fire-using more and more (hand cannon, Circus performance etc.) and there is no reason it won't in the future as well. An argument based on the name of the skill perhaps isn't the best one. Firemaking could be useful in siegework or maybe mining (with explosives), but what it should really do is make your level-up fireworks more amazing . Platinum_Myr
I would love more cross-skill non-combat related bonuses along the lines of extreme potions but not for combat. (Rather than adding yet more things needed to be 100% at combat). I like the ideas of roasted sharks and so on (where you can roast a shark on a high lvl fire if you have higher cooking and so on). I think things like the agility double/quadruple steals except more visible.
