11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

Earlier on this thread, people were claiming that they/others had said that using their Lifeboats/glasses/treasure of the sea and it had lasted them over/around a week. Well, I used my lifeboat around 2 days ago and it no longer says that it's active. So either someone was wrong, something was fixed, or they only last a "week" where the effect ends at the begining of a Wednesday. Either way, I'm highly saddened that my lifeboat was wasted, since I didn't actually do any voyages I could fail...

My lifeboat is still active, even though a reset occured last night. Maybe you're looking at the wrong ship?

Was it always ship specific? I'll take another look.

Yep, it's ship specific :) Should still have it on the ship you assigned it to.

Well, I took another look. I'm not sure which ship it's on, but the little Active! thing is back, so it's still working. I just have to wait for a ship to port before I can figure out which one it's apparently on. Good to know, at least.

In the Voyages menu, you can use the left and right arrow keys to shift between your ships, so you can figure out which ship has which effects active (and apply effects mid-voyage, though they don't seem to work if you do that).

Wouldja look at that. Didn't know you could switch the focus of your ships like that. It's on my first ship, which makes things easy since that's usually been where I focus my best crew members first. Thanks.

How many hotdogs does it take to mow a garage door?

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

I'd suggest unlocking the rudder as your first ship upgrade in scythe, as just the rudder alone dropped my voyage times by 50 mins to an hour.

Is this compared to the slate rudder? Because if it is, then yum!

Yes, I had every ship upgrade unlocked entering scythe and started getting a surplus of cherrywood so i figured why not upgrade the rudder and the next 2 voyages i sent out were around 3 hours 45 mins each and the only upgrade i had changed was the rudder.

In hindsight I wish I hadn't gone back for gunpowder, because in going back to get the bamboo needed for building upgrades I'm back up to ~1500 gunpowder with nothing to use it on.

I'm in a similar situation. I now have all the bamboo I'll ever need and have yet to enter The Scythe region, so if I get any more bamboo missions or run out of time at the end of the day to complete all my more rewarding missions, I'm a little stuck.

Fortunately I still "need" a lot of gunpowder for buildings later down the line, and if I could get those missions down to around 30 minutes each and utilise a third ship.

I wish we could sell extra resources to an NPC in return for chimes or something like that, rather than them ending up being completely useless.

The steep difficulty curve has made me reluctant to send out any missions except those for resources. At the moment I've got all slate deck items, 3 SF and 2 combat but no morale which is really hurting me :-|

I'm wondering what building to upgrade first since I have quite a bit of excess gunpowder. The 2% bonus to getting better crew rolls seems miniscule, although it might help me get some Blazing Lanterns or Chimeras (should I succeed this 70% mission). On the other hand, even a 1% increase in ship stats is something I can actually see.

The building upgrades (other than warehouse, icons & office) are more designed to dump excess resources into than to really aim for imo. I would only return to the earlier zones because you can't otherwise use up all your voyages for the day.

For those wandering, the island "Winds Home" unlocks 2 carachters: Sea Witch and Judge of Dice. The Sea Witch ability is called ressurect, and revives the party member with the stats it had before he died, btu he no longer gains exp. Aparently it's bugged, since it nerfs the stats. No one knows what the Judge does yet, he may be the Rallying Cry Unit.

Edit: Pic of the revived carachter:

except that the Life Boat addon completely destroys that mechanics by preventing crews from dying in the first place.

I got 1 Life boat, and the ship its on became the one I send on low % voyages.

On a lighter note:

"Your ship Wondering Loner has been threatened with legal action for dropping anchor on a mogre's house"

Anyone know how expensive it is to hire an attorney in RS?

The island is the little speck nearest the bottom-right corner of the map. Special unit is 350 morale 750 seafaring apparently, with rallying cry.

Does anyone know how speed really works yet?

I just sent out 2 voyages, both were ETA 1:44

The first one with 2 Firework guys(1.7k~ speed each) turned out to be 1:56

The second one without any speed guys turned out to be 1:39

Isn't there a cap for how much time speed bonuses can remove form the base time?

-25% time at most.

After that there's a random modifier to your time, think it's either +/- 6 or 12 minutes.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.
