  1. I've always wondered: if a dog hears its name called, does it recognize the name as itself or have them simply become trained that the "name" is a way of calling them? For example, if a dog's name is Max, does he know his name is Max when its owner calls him, or does he simply know that lady saying "Max" wants him to come towards her and acknowledge her?
  2. This seems to be the most famous riddle in statistics, used in books like The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime and in the movie 21: You're playing a game show and are shown 3 doors. Behind one door is a new car, behind the other two are goats. You are told to pick one door. After you pick the door, before it is revealed, the host (who knows whats behind each door) chooses another door that has a goat behind it. You now have 2 doors left, and the host asks if you want to switch picks before the door is opened. Is it to your benefit to switch your choice of door in order to win the car? The answer to the riddle is yes, it increases your chances of winning the car. But I'm not entirely sure how they arrived at that conclusion. I haven't taken a class in statistics yet so I haven't the faintest clue, it doesn't make sense to me at all. Anyone care to elaborate?
  3. I'm pretty sure that pvp potential usage goes by the items alch value, not street value. For example, I was at 100% EP and decided to do the 26k trick. In a hotzone, risking 500k worth of valuebles, I killed my partner and the loot was worth over 4.5m: Statius's warhammer, d hally, ring of stone, a 70 nats, and some other random goodies. It brought my potential down to 67%, meaning a 33% loss. However my next kill gave me a total of 300k: obby bracelet, some runes, and the 26k my partner dropped. This time the drop put me down to 27% potential, meaning a loss of 40%. I haven't calculated the alch values of everything total yet, and I have screenies of both kills if you guys want them for data. I was 111+7, my partner was 114 (he had a pouch to boost his level).
  4. Oh, nothing too big then. I mean, its not like the most important monsters in runescape were rendered useless and insanely valueble items were taken from the economy right? I don't know how the hell QA missed all this. Such small updates come into the game today and all of a sudden major game-screwing side-bugs appear everywhere. Someone's gonna get fired.
  5. Wow. I just love some of these updates! No more doubles on slayer task, its what I've always been waiting for. And a new herb drop... I bet druids and spectres will be pretty crowded for a while. And the run energy is simply a blessing for everyone.
  6. Today, me and a few friends went rev hunting for the lulz. At the mage arena we encountered a group of rev hunters around our level. One thing led to another and soon we were trash-talking eachother on our rev-hunting skills. Very mature, right? So as we were in the heated online battle, a group of knights and an ork showed up and crashed us. While the knights were throwing high damage at us, both teams were fighting to see who could kill the most revs. I managed to take out my knight quickly and then pjed another kid's knight, making him incredibly pissed off. My bro was struggling with his knight until his got pjed by a guy from the other team. And the kid on the top of the screenie somehow managed to survive his encounter thanks to my teammate with the zammy coif (to the left of the knight) who pjed the knight shortly after the screenie was taken. He saved the kid's [wagon] and got the kill. Meanwhile my other teammate (bottom right ranger) didn't have any revs to fight, so he continued trash talking. All in all it was quite a fun battle to watch, although we all drastically dropped several maturity levels and didn't gain anything out of it.
  7. Woah, I was thinking the exact same thing. Although I think it would take more than a stubborn band to shut down a merchandise selling giant. But I'm interested to see how this all ends up. Greenday isn't the least bit concerned about losing Wal-mart sales, they have plenty already from other stores. And Wal-mart doesn't seem to care that they're losing potential profits from Greenday because they have massive profits everywhere else. I guess they'll just move on then with albums not being sold in Wal-mart?
  8. I haven't seen an episode of it, but damn, the commercials look freakin sweet. When is the show again? Fridays at 9 on Animal Planet? Been trying to remember it so that if I have nothing better to do on a friday (and I usually don't, the loser that I am :ugeek: ) I can watch an epic show like Whale Wars.
  9. High school freshman here, and I'm barely concerned about how my finals will go. I already finished my Geometry final (which was the one I was most afraid of) and I think I did pretty well. Now the rest of my classes are coming up next week and none of them are really making me nervous. I am in all Honors classes but my teachers take things rather easy. My honors biology teacher gave us review packets and games in class for extra credit. I managed to rack up a whopping 32 points which translates to 16% extra credit for the final exam! And 1st semester I scored a 117% on my final exam even though I didn't study at all and didn't get a perfect score without extra credit. I'm not concerned about studying at this point, but I am concerned about my future. Over 100% on a final exam? That's insanely rare. I thought it was against Illinois high school legislation to give extra credit on the final exams, especially if that credit was over a whole letter grade's worth of points. I'm screwed for the next few years of science considering how easy this year was.
  10. It appears that Mod Mat K doubts that Jagex intervened at all, so how does that make him heroic? Apparently what happened was that someone or some group of people dumped massive amounts of limpwurt roots and that screwed over the merchant clans that were investing. And now they have descended into a 78 page rant fest on how jagex is corrupting the game Personally, I can't for sure say if Jagex got involved. It does seem odd that although there were thousands of offers for max, somehow limps still managed to go DOWN in price. It defies all laws of economics, unless somehow someone or some people managed to obtain a surplus of limpwurt roots beyond the economy's demand, sold it to everyone who wanted it at max, then managed to drop the price with the remaining limps. Sounds doubtful, but still possible. But the merchants refuse to agree, everyone in that 78 page thread is convinced that Jagex screwed with the economy to discourage investing. I'm interested to see how this all turns out.
  11. Hmm I better start saving some dp for the new armors.
  12. I'm not sure about this, did anyone perhaps consider that it could just be the exact same version of rs but with controls modified for each console's controllers? I don't think I'd be impressed by a completely different version anyway.
  13. Completely meaningless to discuss here, but I lmao'd nevertheless.
  14. I think the really sick ones are where the creator of the chain email creates some kind of false sob story to get good-meaning people to spam others inboxes. There are plenty of well known ones about a mother who's eldest son died in a car crash, husband left the family, and daughter is dying of leukemia. She's unemployed and needs money to feed herself, her own mother, and pay for treatment of her dying daughter. The mother pleads with the email recipient that if this email is forewarded to 10 people, AOL and Yahoo would give her a dollar each. This email was proven repeatedly to be false on various internet hoax busters, but nevertheless those oblivious good-hearted people still spam my inbox today with sob stories like this convinced that they are helping a person in need by forewarding it. But the ones that annoy the hell out of me more than any sob story are the ones that promise good luck or true love if you do some random things. I feel even worse when the sender genuinely believes it and thinks he will get good luck by forewarding the overused message to me. I tell you, chain emails are the spawn of the devil.
  15. I suppose the banning of any form of CP is good for the world. /b/ and the art boards of 4chan would be shut down. But then there are problems with arresting for possession of manga comics. Most CP viewers probably have an insatiable addiction to the stuff. They know where to find it and everything. If their comics were banned, how do we know they won't decide to look for the real stuff instead of satisfying themselves with drawings? Honestly, 15 years for a hobby? it might be a rather obscene hobby, but it's better than him actually exploiting children to quench his thirst for pornography. And besides, unless the book actually states the character's age, how do we know the character isn't an adult? Banning manga calling it "child porn" won't do anything because the writer would simply avoid giving the character's actual age and instead just make it look like the character is young. And appearances aren't good enough evidence in a court of law.
  16. Thank goodness, I'm not the only one who saw the pic and went "morons, its not sailing". They already mentioned Red Raktuber (equal to Red October) in the chaos elly letter right? Thats a submarine, I'm pretty sure the sighted object in the water relates to pengs more than z0mg sailing.
  17. What sucks about death is that it can happen at any moment, even a young man with his whole life ahead of him. Last year when me and my friend were just 14, his mother was hit by a train and killed on the spot. It was probably the worst possible way for her to die, because she had been successfully fighting breast cancer for over 5 years and survived a terrible car crash the year before. It seemed like life was on her side. Then somehow she was killed on the same train tracks that she crossed over every day for over a decade on her way home from work. It seemed so sick to me how death could be so random. I was rather close to her, and it never occured to me just how easy it is to die. That was the closest death i'd ever felt, because thankfully i had never had any close family deaths before that. I'm truly sorry about the los of your friend because deaths that sudden and unexpected are impossible to get over right away.
  18. Even if they die with full 3rd age, there's no guarantee that the killer get any of his drops. Maybe if he's lucky he'll get one of the items. But the RWT'er losing full 3rd age just so the other guy can get one piece? Still major profit loss. Jagex has already pwned RWTing (unless the RWT'ers actually have the patience to 26k over and over and over again), they're only concern now is to make sure regular players aren't abusing the system. They've already said they're fine with 26king, what they have a problem with is when you can afk for 2 hours straight, coming back occasionally to check your hp, and then kill a guy with 26k for 4m in drops.
  19. Well that just adds another good use to an already incredibly versatile ring. If it wasn't official earlier, it should be said now that f2pers should never leave lumbridge without the ring, since it has a bunch of convenient uses and is the best ring f2p can wear. It even has a +1 mage attack bonus, making it one of the few rings to boost your magic (are seers and lunar the only other ones?).
  20. It probably is a Bruce Lee reference. Jagex already has a ton of real world easter eggs in runescape, most of them being monty python. wouldn't surprise me if they decided to add one more.
  21. QFT. or if you don't wanna be harsh to him, tell him you're grounded from videogames or something to keep him out of your house.
  22. Wait a sec, you want to befriend the kids who are desperatly trying to hack the crap out of your account? You should really get some better people to hang out with. I suggest getting friends who don't know you play runescape. Not only will it prevent them hacking you, but it prevents them from making fun of you for having a runescape account. Most of the real world kids don't take it too kindly if they meet someone with a runescape account.
  23. In pvp, the dds is usually favored because it hits faster than a mace. For finishes maybe the mace is better because it's accurate, but for one itemers its favored because of the poison and decent spec. The only problem with it that one itemers dont seem to get is that the dds doesnt reach the 75k needed for a drop. Several monsters are weak to crush and players usually have a lower crush def than stab/slash, but that doesn't mean anything in pking. what matters is the fastest damage. Even though metal dragons are weak to stab, it has been proven that whip is far more effective. The only time players really try to pick on weaknesses are at waterfiends and corp beast because you need to do really quick damage before they hurt you too much. But for players? there are no fast crush weapons unless you use a sara sword or zammy spear on crush. And a whip+rune defender is far superior than either. The godsword can be arguably better, but most people don't even set it to crush when they pk; I have no idea why.
  24. My first ever pk at bh. It was even better because me and the other guy (my target) agreed to a no armor fight because neither of us wanted to risk too much. So I had a d scim and dds (and I had the guts to skull on him) while he used an ags. Total loot ~630k, but the morrigan's isn't selling -.- Why the hell is there a slayer staff in there? They're not tradeable and are practically worthless. No pker would be insane enough to pk with magic dart.
  25. God forbid, people of a certain heritage protesting the inhumanity that is occuring in their place of heritage? They have every right to stage a protest.
