July 27, 200718 yr At least Americans arnt scared of fan death. my fan has been running almost a week straight now. I'm gonna die :( I recently read the new Game Informer article on the trip to the Korea WoW festival. And it saddens me that Korea is pro gaming, while in America you are put down and called a loser for playing video games. This almost makes me with I knew Cantonese and lived in Korea. almost ;) What does cantonese have to do with korea??????
July 27, 200718 yr lol it is also being shown on tv in america. But in Korea, there are special buildings for showing warcraft or starcraft matches, its really dire.

This almost makes me with I knew Cantonese and lived in Korea. almost ;) In America you're a nerd/geek/losser/whatever if you play games, however, in Korea you're a leader, an example and you got follower if you own... However, in Korea, if you're good, the mafia will put in many problems you and your family if you refuse to work in a sweetshop for them and to give them all your welath in-game. Also, other countries like China, will be afraid of this an do a stupid pact with Blizard so the Chinesse versions of WoW will have a playing limit of 3 hours per day, so the common citizens will have a lot of troubles like a chinesse friend of a friend that payed thousands of dollars in China to get an America copy of WoW. Thanks god in the occidental world we are not like the oriental world.... ...However, Japan owns with hi-tech, anime, manga, culture and the perverts who created the hentai and the 99% of the weird stuffs in internet :D http://darkluniux.blogspot.comBehold my blog! July 27, 200718 yr Breaking news: about 20% of North Americans have just moved over to Korea! Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you!
July 27, 200718 yr In America you're a nerd/geek/losser/whatever if you play games, however, in Korea you're a leader, an example and you got follower if you own... This is untrue. I'm sure EVERY guy in my school has 1 console or more, popular, geek, or whatnot. It only depends on how much you play, and how much social life you have. I for one (out of millions), play games plenty, but I'm not outcast (REALLY). However, in Korea, if you're good, the mafia will put in many problems you and your family if you refuse to work in a sweetshop for them and to give them all your welath in-game. Um, there's a mafia in Korea? I'm pretty sure democratic south korea has no problems of that sort. The Yakuza has influence in Korea, but it's really based in Japan. :ohnoes: Also, other countries like China, will be afraid of this an do a stupid pact with Blizard so the Chinesse versions of WoW will have a playing limit of 3 hours per day, so the common citizens will have a lot of troubles like a chinesse friend of a friend that payed thousands of dollars in China to get an America copy of WoW. China is communist, not fascit. I'm sure you're allowed to play WoW, granted you work 20/6...And WHY would a Chinese dude want an english copy of the game? No, not a reference to goldfarmers. -.- Thanks god in the occidental world we are not like the oriental world.... Um, wats occidental? :-s ...However, Japan owns with hi-tech, anime, manga, culture and the perverts who created the hentai and the 99% of the weird stuffs in internet :D Coincidently, 99% of the people who watch that porn stuff are here in America. Well maybe not 99%, but you get the point. And remember the Yakuza are in Japan? Some places there are not so great. Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.
July 27, 200718 yr Why would you want gaming to be accepted? It does nothing for society. Would you rather have a country of nerds, wasting their time on WOW and playing xbox... Or would your rather have a country of doctors and businessmen, bringing wealth and prestige to your country?

July 27, 200718 yr Because being Korean makes you awesome. (Yes, I am Korean). Eh, sorry I never noticed anything with my friends and gaming being cool. A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.
July 27, 200718 yr Pff.. I WISH #2 was true. Its people like that who try to screw you over for your money. So I rather pick #1 thank you very much. ~Defender~ If you love me, send me a PM. 8 - Love me2 - Hate me

For some reason people seem to respect the #3 picture, while in my opinion the first pic > the third one. Merely because folks who are "nerds" (computer super-savvy that is)have a lot more skill and expertise than the idiots who enjoy mocking them. Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

July 28, 200718 yr You telling me all you fools don't get a LAN going with mates? Damn. And here I was thinking such 'LAN parties' were comon practice :uhh: Personally, I do that kind of thing fairly often with my mates, awesome fun - and a good way to get new games / music / etc in the process :P Yeah, I used to LAN alot a few years back, but now we're all around 20 we're all too busy with jobs and uni so we don't get together to LAN as it takes up a whole weekend. Same mentality here, but things like WoW and other RTS games are more 'nerdy' then other games such as CS. I went to a huge LAN of 700 people a month back. Since the WCG in NZ is still just CS 1.6, the winners of it got $33,000 worth of prizes split up amongst the five in the team, geeky, very much so. But alot of the guys there were actually cool people, but there were HEAPS of nerds. There was some guy dressed up as a vampire, and another dressed up as a ninja!? It was on the news too, so needless to say I hit the deck everytime a news camera came around.

July 28, 200718 yr You [Trapical] must listen to Jack Thompson, am I correct? :wall: Uh, Jack who? No seriously, never heard of him. But I take it that was an insult... As for those people saying "You can either be a gamer or a rapper or druggie!!" That's not my point, you guys twisted my words. My point is why do you want a value system that praises laziness/leisurely activity over a culture that promotes capitalism and self success? Every country has nerds, and people that fun of nerds. The latter can't be helped but when it comes to the "nerds" would you rather have a culture that encourages them to become scientists and work for companies like Intel or Apple or would you rather have a culture that encourages all computer savvy people to stay at home and play WOW? Like I said, if you looking at the top 10% of the intelligent population, would you rather have them go to universities/business or would you rather have them all become professional gamers
July 28, 200718 yr This is going to be one of those times where I tend to agree with both parties, ultimately it gets to a point where gaming is dominating your life (addiction) when you're not on a professional level. That's a problem. Casual gamers / weekend warriors, on the other hand, generally do have careers. Half the gamers I know hold down full-time jobs in various fields (one is infact a scientist, Trapical :P) another a lawyer, and the rest float around their various IT fields and a few DJ's. In the long run, I'd rather promote gaming than going out every second night getting trashed, sleeping with a dozen people and taking drugs (ie: the people who diss nerds tend to be [/generatization]); and perhaps going around speeding while drunk, and generally being a menace to society. Might be 'lazy', in a sense, but at the end of the day the only person they're puting at risk is themself (unless they happen to be a parent who is addicted to said game they play in which case - bad). But you can't always win.

Right-o.

July 29, 200718 yr Wow, this is an impossible battle to partake on a gaming forum. I never dismissed gaming as something that no one should ever do. Sure people can game on the weekends or after work if they have the time, thats fantastic. Gaming in the casual context is fine. But I was referring to the OP when I said why would you want to live in Korea, where people have full fledged jobs as professional gamers. Hundreds soon to be thousands of teens drop out of college each year and play games nearly 24/7 with the hopes of "going pro" Perhaps 1 kid every 5 years does 'become pro' and gets sponsors and stars in commercials, much like a celebrity. The problem is, what about the other thousand kids who dropped out of universities to get better at games. What will they do now? A bigger problem is the fact that the Korean media portrays these professional gamers as heroes and celebrities, thus todays youth in Korea has the connotation that "if I grow up playing video games every possible minute, I can become famous!" South Korea as we know it is successful because of the generation that grew up during the Korean war became determined to bring success to their war torn country, they wanted to be prove to North Korea that capitalism was better, so they worked tremendously hard and created corporations like Samsung and LG from scratch. The current generation seems hellbent on creating not new electronics giants from scratch, but instead creating a half dozen really popular "professional gamers"
