The Fall of Jagex

Dizzle229

Recommended Posts

October 2nd, 2007 - Items sold at shops become infinite, causing a significant price drop.

October 16, 2007 - Jagex implements Lootshare, meaning that getting good items requires much less time and effort.

November 5th, 2007 - Request Assisance is introduced, causing players of all skill levels to get expensive equipment.

November 20th, 2007 - Jagex changes the duel arena to limit your earnings to 12,000 GP per hour, causing many members to quit.

November 26, 2007 - The Grand Exchange is released, ruining merchanting is dead, and prices on all items plummet.

And on December 10th, 2007, a day which will live in infamy, Jagex put the final nail in the coffin. It abolished PKing, one of Runescape's main activities, causing thousands to quit. It made the duel arena available to free players, as well as bank space, leaving much less reason to become a member.

Jagex was once a huge, extremely successful corporation. But the saying is true.

The mighty will fall.

Instead of just coming out with objective facts and dates, you clearly threw your bias all over this.

Just quit already.

*Edit*

Just look at your signature man - You clearly are making fun of people who look back and complain about the past being better. And you're doing it, while slurring a company's name.

Hypocracy ftw

I disagree.

The infinite items in stores does not create a significant drop in prices because they are still infinitely more expensive and would be such a bad idea to buy in large amounts unless you have millions of gp to waste.

The Lootshare does not make good items easier to get. The drop rate for each person is still the same. It just make more monsters dead and saves you from taking as much damage. This is basically so that teams can still go kqing and dking.

The Request Assistance didn't cause people to get expensive equipment easier... If you're talking about smithing, it's still the same and you still have to work to get the raw material. Plus you don't get xp. And anyways, you could still ask people to make things for you before the update so it really didn't do anything new... Just stopped scamming from "free gem cutting" and "tree trimming" etc.

People can move on to other areas if they want to make more than 12k an hour. Maybe go train slayer and kill higher level monsters for their drops. Most of the stakers have either continued to enjoy the game. Plus, they added a tournament to make more money in... Staking is not dead.

I absolutely hated merchanting so I like the GE update. Basically people will have 1 less way to make money. I say just move on with your life. Not all prices are plummeting. Look at raw material like the yews. They're rather expensive. Eventually, the prices will stabilize so give it time...

There is more than pking in the game. People will either move on to new games or get used to the BH and other features Jagex implemented. Sure thousands have quit, but probably 3 times more autoers and gold farmers have quit. People who are dedicated to Runescape will continue to play with the BH. The F2P additions was just to balance out the upcoming trade thing. People will still be members, especially since the long awaited summoning is coming up...

Jagex is still extremely successful and these updates have made if more successful. All good things come with their cons and this is no different for Jagex... The mighty will fall eventually, but Jagex still has a long time before they do fall.

Can't really agree on that they will fall since many people still seem to like these updates.

I personally haven't liked many of the last updates especially this last one ruining the pking, that one made me quit

RS is dead. I admire that Jagex ahnilated RWT, but they killed off the game in the proccess.

You're delusional.

Free hint: even if RS is dead as far as you're concerned, that doesn't mean it is for anyone else.

your game is dead , mine is at full power ... and as you see there are more players now then before

simple math ... (before ~ 210k ppl - I asume 60k of them were bots) = (now ~ 230k ppl - I asume 1-2k of them are bots)

If you're going to put so much emphasis on a word, the least you could do is to spell it right.

Doomsaying is so popular (and made of speculations and fail) that nothing you really say is going to make people flinch an eyebrow.

I am a tree.

+1 here

I believe "RS is dead for me" would probably be more fitting...

Runescape 2 is dead, yes

Welcome to Runescape 3

Everyone is complaining about how Runescape is screwed. Well come back in five years and I think no-one wants the old game back.

It was a big sacrifice but there will be solutions and in the end we've got a game without bots, hackers, hackers, scammers whatever, where everything is realistic yet fun (I love the G.E.) and the game will be greater than ever before.

Ya-ya-ya.....

People predicted the end of Rs when:

RS2 came

Pking was changed

Pc was changed

Duel arena changed

Ge came....

Umm...anyone see the pattern? :-k Every new update brings doomsayers.

People quit but game remains=)

Also, i tried farming once and my potatoes died, put me off forever.

Runescape isn't dead. Many elements are to many people, but now it's just a different game. Jagex took a gamble, and they're hoping to profit in the long run from it, which they probably will.

I think this could've been added to the gagillion other threads that say the same thing.

I get it. You don't like the changes.

Seriously how did the GE ruin merchanting? It's not like we have to trade other players 5% above or 5% below.

The 3k Trade limt? THAT will ruin merchanting.

38% of Tip.Iters put stupid made up statistics in their sigs. If you are one of the 62% that don't, put this in your sig.

~If they're "dead," then go play another game. Seeing as they lost maybe 10% of their Players, that's not really a big deal. The new updates will encourage newer Players, and keep the old ones happy. So they mess up prices for a few weeks, isn't that what happened with ALL large updates? Yes, it is. Just relax, or go play another game.~

60k rioters/people walking around saying how they're going to quit

2-3k people on forums of which a tenth are on rants

This is getting ridiculous, these updates are all for the better. Every new feature (lootshare, grand exchange, etc) CAN be fixed and Jagex stated they will fix them up.

Only thing I'm clueless how they will do is gift giving.

Finally someone who makes sense, and i'm sure some who quit will come back in 6 months or so, and decide that it isn't so bad and continue playing, b/c they forget what it was like before, and then they'll continue playing out of boredom(me).

But you must remember that a lot of ppl made there money of merchanting, and they still will, they just have to find the right loophole to take advantage of, but this time it'll be harder to find that loophole(item to merchant), but once they do, then... But that 1 was a massive way to make money(over 25% of ppl have done it.)
