GrayBlizzard
I seem to go through a sort of weird cycle in which I start out spending too much time everyday playing, and gradually lose interest until the cycle begins anew. All in all, I think it sort of balances out. I mean, I play sports, and hang out with friends and stuff, so I'm certainly not missing out on socialization. And even though I'm really bad about doing my homework most of the time, I think Runescape has nothing to do with it (I just think it's pointless). I say Runescape isn't something to regret unless you think it has had a negative influence on your personality or outlook on life. Or anything else vital to having a good life in the end, for that matter. Playing an instrument or picking up a new hobby is cool, and if you enjoy them more than Runescape, than by all means, spend your time on those instead. Or you could do both, as I do. I play Water Polo, and I'm on the swim team, I play two instruments (Bass guitar and Horn), and I have good friends. Having other hobbies is great, but is Runescape the worst alternative? I'm sure if you make a conscious effort, you or anybody else can allocate their time well enough to enjoy it to its fullest, so I trust you to make your own decision. NJE03
It seems to me you simply need to manage your time better. I maintain friendships and plenty of other hobbies and still have time to enjoy Runescape. LinovUSA
Well, it is not really a regret when you vary your options, instead of playing runescape all day every day. During my high school carreer I played it pretty much whole 4 years, but i played only for couple of hours before i went to bed, and I still gained a lot and also never lost touch with my real life.
123Yourgone
I regret the minute i lost out of my life reading this thread, tbh these threads about concerned ex scapers trying to save your soul are wearing thin, ok, you left the game, move on with your life. Blizaga57
I personally see my online friends as the stepping stones between complete antisocialness and the irl friends I have now. All in all, it was worth it just for the online friends I made.
chc05dude
It's your own fault for how you spend your time and you have no one to blame but yourself. It's really that simple. If you never did any clubs or other activities it's because you weren't motivated to do them. Nerds existed before computers, so stop pretending your the first person ever to have regretted not being more social in highschool.

Ghost-Knigth
It's all about selfcontrol. Some have it - some don't. I'm 18 years old: Been together with my hot girlfriend for 4 years now. I play soccer each day and getting pro from summer when I'm done with school. I have many friends and I consider myself being well-liked by many. There goes my lifestory :P It's all about selfcontrol. And besides, playing RuneScape isn't different from playing another game or watching tv. It's just my hobby and I enjoy (most of the time) to play RuneScape. It's how I relax which I need. Good luck in real life :) 99 ranged | 99 magic | 99 defence | 99 hitpointsRemember, it's just a gameFeel free to add me on RS. :) Always ready for a chat. WARnold
Haha, if playing a game for a year or two is your biggest regret in life, then I'd really swap places with you. Stop being so melodramatic, go and enjoy college instead.
Bertric
You mean to tell me you no-lifed your way through 2 years, and then come on here and whine about it, like it is anyone elses fault but your own? It is easy to have a life and play Runescape. You have no-one but yourself to blame. They should start up a No-Lifers Anonymous or something, maybe you could go and do seminars as a reformed No-Lifer.
Plugpoint
It's not difficult to do other stuff. You only played 3 hours a day. I play loads more than that and still manage to play guitar and socialise and stuff. As for your schoolwork, you just gotta prioritise stuff. I seem to remember stopping membership in the summer because F2P bores me and I needed to revise. Like someone said, if playing a game is your biggest regret then I'd gladly swap places with you. anonymouse_
Wait until you get to college/university, then you'll really see what a waste of life RS was :P 3 hours a day is light...I did 6+ on school days in high school and still got a 90+ average (yes, HS is a joke). I don't see how you didn't have time for all the stuff you mentioned if you only did 3 hours of RS a day...I'm sure you didn't spend more then 2 hours a day on hw... For all those people saying to balance RS with RL, you're just lying to yourself. Once you get addicted to RS, there is no room for 'balance'; you either play or you quit. Dharockslayer
That's your opinion, alright, but I do have one thing to say... In the last year that I have been Runescape-free I have picked up more constructive hobbies such as guitar, drums, reading, hanging out with RL friends, skateboarding, and dating. You cant say those bolded activities be of better value than RuneScape: they're just hobbies. You'll probably gain nothing from playing drums so why do it? Catch me? The underlined ones are debatable to the wise-guy, which, I'll try not to do. Your able to someday make money off of those hobbies, which something he probably would like to do. You could be in a band headlining tours from playing guitar and drums. And from skateboarding you could be winning competitions such as the X Games and be sponsored. Also they're much better on the body seeing as your moving around, rather then sitting in one spot clicking away to earn items in a game that won't help you amount to anything. You know how fricking hard it is to win the X games? You need to nolife skateboarding for that  . Oh and just to shatter yer dreams, being in a band who tours around in wich you play guitar or drums in is very unlikely. I don't regret playing anything, because I had fun. Some people forget what life is about, and they just concentrate on money, getting girls, getting status. Its about fun people. See it from the bright side, without Runescape, you would take this life for granted. Without Runescape, you wouldn't see the great life you are having now, since you would already have it. And to those people who are going to type they have a great life, a wonderfull busty girlfriend and a fantasticly money-earning job. We don't care, we aren't discussing that. Central_Keeper
From my own experience, it really depend on the time you contribute to RS and time management is the key. I started playing RS during my University years, and it actually help somewhat because I like to train skills and read my assigned textbook readings at the same time. Since both of them tend to bore me out, I figure why not do both things at once to kill 2 birds with one stone. When I am bored of textbook, I would chat with friends in RS, when I am alone, I would go back and read again (saying that, only WC and Fishing works best, hard to train combat skill when you kill monsters, I have to look up every 10 seconds because the moster i train with dies fast). Of course, thats just coming reading textbook, other parts such as midterms and finals, and assignments do need 100 percent focus on it, so no RS during those time. I acutally read a similar post where people say that they can be more constructive if they dont play RS before, anything to some degree, can be addictive if you do it too much, not just pointing all the blame to RS, I know some people who immerse themselves like Counterstrike and other online games, if they leave RS, they will move on to other things that pre occupied their free time (but again, you might find something else constructive to do as well). I guess you can always go volunteer, find a part time job, or spend more time on homework, and of coures, everyone will approve of that since its "contructive" to your real life. I guess people who are long term RS veteran players often wonder what they might do if they spend all their RS time in RL instead. Also, what will happen to the friends and things you learn in RS? Through RS, I learn more concept of ecnomy, and did find some good friends where our discussion is not limited to RS but RL as well. One of my RS friend who able to do well in University (A- average), doing a part time job, and go out clubbing with friends, and play other online game all together. He still manage to train his RS guy well, because he trains it more smartly, more effciently than other players, he make up efficent training method because he doesn't want to spend too much time on RS. There is little to aruge about things that already passed, its like saying that if I can get 10 marks higher in my exam, I would have make a difference with my grades. The end result is the choice that you made when u at that crossroad, depend on the path you choose, lead to different result. Perhaps you can learn from this experience and refresh your own time management skills, and make better use of your time. a happy Runescaper
SwreeTak
This is a sad story. Myself I have always been careful of how much I play. I take a break from RS when I feel for it, and I always do my homework before I start playing. I have high grades and pretty many friends, so I don't think I play too much. This is why I won't quit playing RS. Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak
Central_Keeper
Side notes: High school is generally ok in terms of school work, unless you load yourself with extra activities. (Or choose to do special academic programs) University/ college is not bad too, the only downsides would be that you are pretty much in control of your own time, and procrastination is usually a big problem. (Assume you dont fall asleep in lecture, and you do listen to your prof talking, and you dont skip lectures, and you do all the assign readings, quizzes, and reports) Basically, with proper time management, you can do well in both parts if you manage tasks into smaller chunks, instead of cramming everything in 12 to 24 hours before that assignment or exam is due. Then again, this is just my own view, and it DOES NOT represent other high school or post secondary students' profile a happy Runescaper

Sharane
I'll sound vain, but everything in moderation. I wouldn't have met a lot of good friends which are out of the game too now if it weren't for Runescape, and I certainly have become much less gullible when it comes to dealing with other people. Thankfully my intensive RS playing days were a long time ago where my schooling wasn't as important so whenever I would get in the game later on is to meet new people and share my experiences as a veteran. :) The same argument is for everything. "300 programmers make their futile but glorious last stand against 1000000 angry players in The battle of Misthalin. They fight for honor, glory and new content sacrificing themselves so that their game may live on. This is Madness! This Is JAGEEEX!"
bubbyjoe2
While this statement does sound dramatic, it is very true. As I look back on my high school career (I am now a senior) I am extremely depressed at what I see. I spent most of my freshman and sophomore years playing Runescape gaining nothing in the process. In the last year that I have been Runescape-free I have picked up more constructive hobbies such as guitar, drums, reading, hanging out with RL friends, skateboarding, and dating. I am mostly saddened at the fact that I could have begun these hobbies earlier in my life (mainly guitar, drums, and skateboarding) and been much better at them. Another regret is the fact that I didn't do better at school. While I played Runescape nothing else mattered. While I did make straight A's, I was never involved. IN ANYTHING. Now when I fill out college transcripts what do I put down as leadership or volunteer work? I was leader of a monster killing team and gave some money to noobs, nope I don't think that would work out. I've missed out on sports and clubs all of which I believe would have made my life better. I also hate the fact that I lied to myself for two straight years, I told myself that I was gaining decision making skills and math skills. That was bologna and I knew but I didn't want to believe it. Finally what have I gained from playing Runescape? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. My main account was hacked, there goes the first three years (my junior high career) and I quit my second account (my high school career). Runescape has taught me nothing made me no friends, though I have many now that its out of my life. In conclusion, though it is not any of my business what you do with your time, I would advise you to either quit Runescape or consider shortening the amount of time you play a day (I played about 3 hours a day btw and I regret it) bring on the flames.. If you have trouble quitting, quit the way I did. Give yourself a password you won't remember, like "fghyse57yw5fjq9hwchloa" (Not that specifically though.) Then you won't be able to log in, no more addiction! This game... I can't even see why it's that fun. It's just a series of training skills on a game, click on tree, click on bank. Click on tree, click on bank. The only reason most people play this is that feeling of, I'm going to be rich and show off my party hat! But when they do, they get bored and uit, seeing as they have nothing left to do.
benar
When I was younger I had a hard time balancing play with RL, but it wasn't ever that hard for me. Being able to balance Runescape with real life is largely dependent on the way you play the game. If you are a skiller focused on getting several skills to 99, then you will be trying to play a lot and therefore your life is unbalanced. Personally, I don't play all too often these days. I do whenever there is a game update. Otherwise I am not focusing on skills, but instead just playing mini-games or partaking in a bit of combat/adventuring. :

PennState4lyfe
Runescape is my time to relax, im only 13, but im getting involved in guitar, friends, and other school stuff. warren211
If this isn't living proof of "watch how much time you play" then I don't know what is. Thanks so much for the lesson, I'll be sure to remember it since this is my last year of junior high. When I go to high school in september 2008, I'll be sure to remember to prioritize my grades, friends, and hobbies over runescape. Runescape will always be there later on when I have spare time, its not going anywhere. But my friends will only have so much tolerance for me before they start thinking "lets ditch this loser and go see a movie". and of course, College certainly won't be waiting for me to finish a barrows trip before an interview. When I get a job, my boss won't wait for me to finish my slayer task before I get to work on my shift. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers.
