So AP is the American equivalent of AS?

Damn, I've stopped caring about school now >_< More specifically, my coursework. I just cannot be bothered to do it at all...

Still going to try and ace the exams.

Essentially, yeah. And now that I've finished with mine, I'll have to sit through these final three weeks of school with absolutely nothing to do.

Good luck on your exams though. :)

Yesterday had a local schools badminton tournament, which we won without even losing a game (havn't lost a game there for like 5 years). Then we were shouted KFC because we told our manager it was a school "tradition" haha. He's a cool guy though.

Then I had more badminton in practice in another city. On the way there it started hailing, hard....Most hail I've ever seen looked like it'd been snowing everywhere which was pretty cool, as it like never snows here in NZ where I am :P

Then today it was really cold, sisters birthday though, she's off to get her liscence now....Hope she fails. Hahaha.

Have you ever heard of/vsed a girl named Maxie Ouyang at badminton? Or Charmaine (her sister)?

Maxie is one of my good friends and she's like the 6th best in New Zealand overall at badminton and she basically plays everywhere.

Maxie plays for Manuatu amirite? (or did)

We used to play against them every year in Napier/Hastings, ask her if she knows Tegan Weston (my sister), I think she will. I'm not sure she would know who I am, I'm not pro like that going to all those tournaments :P But my sister does.

Today was one of the worst I have ever had. I'm practically in shock it was so harrowing.

You tried to commit suicide right ?

How old are you ?!

Yeah... today sucked at least as bad too. I'm 17. Haven't been able to eat in 24 hours, haven't wanted to for a week at least... and that's just a symptom of a symptom.

I think I got caught skipping 7th period today too... fml

OH S***! He/she/it is back!

Yeah! Manawatu. :) I'll ask her tomorrow, I wonder what excuse I'll come up with if she asks me how I know Tegan. :|

Went to the first game of districts. We lost. A sophomore against us accounted for 7 RBI's and hit 3 home runs consecutively. We lost like 18-12.

Can someone explain these AP and AS exams to me ?

Also, how old are the students that take them.

Example questions ?

I dont know about AP or AS but at my school they offer IB.

You need to be a Junior or Senior and there are like 3 exams or papers for each class that are graded on a 7 point scale. There is IB bio, Chem, Physics, Art, Math, History, Language, and English (maybe some more)

There are like 2 different classes for each IB class one easy (easier at least) and one harder.

There are 3 types for the math easy, medium, and hard. Only about 5 people total at my school have actually taken the really hard math, that is how hard it is. Almost all of them have completely failed on the tests as well. So basically no one takes that.

If you take all IB classes you can get an IB diploma which increases your rate to get into colleges (If you have IB diploma you have a 100% chance to get into UW and some other colleges.)

Sorry I rambled a little, just trying to say all I know.

5 people out of the entire history of your school?

And what's so hard about it, was it written for university level students or something?

IB ?

International Baccalaurate

Ah ok. At my school it was done by units.

I lol'ed at easy, medium and hard. Do they have better names ?

Yeah, Extension 1 Maths [here in Australia] is a prerequisite for many combined courses. Eg, Medicine/Arts or Medicine/Commerce. Usually it involves medicine.

So Extension 1 would be like the hard there. Then also we have Extension 2.

Got my Term 1 Report back today. Aced everything.

Honestly, studying is overrated (I'll probably change my tune by the time it comes to do the HSC).

Only fear God,

Know the weapons of the weak,

The weakness of the hard.

Year 10. I'm supposed to be in year 9 because I skipped kindergarten; but that's a pointless year anyway. -.-

I couldn't think of their actual names so I just used something simple.

For most people (at my school) it would be hard, harder, impossible.

I am a freshman, year 9.

I started my summer class. I hate networking.

And then I'm working. And I leave for kingston tomorrow.

I don't really know jack about AP but AS exams are taken usually at 17. They're sort of like the first half to a full A-level, you do the second part to them (A2) at 18 then go on to University from there. AS stands for Advanced Studies I think.

I did my first AS of summer today! Psychology, I think it went quite well. I think the Research Methods could have been better, I didn't really know anything about Correlational studies. Approaches and Biopsychology wasn't too bad, though the essay was a bit nasty about methods of cortical specialisation. Gender was pretty decent, the biological theories are pretty easy to remember though I didn't give any evidence in the essay :wall:

I went to the cinema with my mum today ^_^ We went McDonalds then watched Star Trek. It was pretty awesome, loads of explosions and fighting, makes me want to watch the original series :^_^:

Ah, AS Pyschology. I remember doing that joke subject  My attendance at the end of the year was around 30%; still got a B. I remember the research methods exam being quite fun though, pretty much exactly the same as what I did at GCSE which itself was pretty much common sense.

Would you say that it's worth going to see the Star Trek film if you've never had any prior interest in the series?

Anyway, today also marked the first of my summer law exams for my first year at Uni. Despite it being on the content heavy area of Contract Law it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, so I don't feel bad about doing minimal revision for it

AP stands for Advanced Placement. They are college level classes that you can take in high school. They are graded on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest, and 1 being the lowest. Most colleges will accept scores of 3's, while Ivy League schools (Harvard, Yale, etc) only accept 5's.

Also, how old are the students that take them.

Since AS has already been explained, I'll outline a bit of AP.

AP classes (Advanced Placement) are basically College/University courses that are available in High School/Secondary School and are typically taken by Juniors and Seniors (16-18 year-olds). At the end of the year, AP students are given the option to take the final AP exams which are what actually determine whether or not the students earn their College/University credits in the subjects they're testing on; the course work throughout the year is just for preparation. To earn the credits, the students have to pass their AP exams, which are graded on a scale of 1-5 with a 3 or above being a passing score. It might seem easy enough, but only about half of the students who take the exams are able to pass them--and I mean that literally.

The exams over each subject are different, of course, but they all conform to a similar format in general. Each exam lasts for 3-4 hours and includes approximately 75 multiple-choice questions and six "free-response" (essay) questions. You can find example problems here, if you'd like to see for yourself. If the site doesn't work for you (it's based in the US and the problems require Adobe Reader to view) for whatever reason, ask and I'll be happy to type a few of the samples out.

*EDIT*

'Beaten to it while I was searching through the College Board site.

I didn't see much of a difference between GCSE statistics and the research methods section XD

I think it's probably worth it. I think that if you have a basic knowledge of Star Trek you'd get a little more out of it, but it's still a really great action movie with awesome special effects and shooming lazors. I think it gives enough Star Trek for it to be called a Star Trek movie, but not so much that it completely alienates people who don't know the series. You kinda get the best of both worlds. :^_^:

Ah, ok thanks for explaining. So are these taken within school time ? Or are they from external classes. Also I presume Year 10s - Year 12s take them ?

You kinda get the best of both worlds.

Yeah, the movie was GREAT. Special effects hurt my eyes though. :-#
