Estonian dude
If school was cancelled for simple snow, we'd have 3 months of winter off... Atm we have around a foot of that white stuff outside, all shining and pretty. Iz good to live in a Northern country! So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends. Sbrideau
Stupid Exam schedule. School doesn't start for another 2 hours and I'm wide awake. Also, I don't have any exams today. Tomorrow it looks like it's going to snow. It better not cancel school. I just want to be done with mid-terms. Damn you and your snow, I miss it. Rarely ever get it but this winter has been really messed up. :???: http://www.eltiempo.es/valencia.html?v=historicoFeels like double the temps that are shown there sometimes due to it being spring like sun and 0 clouds. I agree, temperatures are messed up this year. Going from -27 to 2 overnight and stuff like that. And that's in Celsius. Compared to other years, we haven't had much snow here, mostly freezing rain, so instead of the usual 2 meters of snow around this time of the year, we only have around 2'... Giordano
I really question the point of college now. So many degrees are "worthless" or "hard to get a job in", what's the point spending grands on it? Seriously? I also like to hear some GOOD degrees besides engineering and a doctor.Anything that can get you a job as a teacher. The pay may not be great, the kids might suck, but you're pretty much guaranteed a decent living and summers off.True. I can say being a teacher is great....unless you are a music or art teacher. Seeing as schools are slowly getting rid of music and the arts, it's going to be balls hard for me to get a job. That is why I am getting my doctorate in muisc conducting. This should allow me to become a college level band director, or director of bands.Ah, you two are the first talking good about teaching. But then again, you two may not know about California's school crisis. I do aim to becoming a history professor and I've encountered nothing but discouragement. The way I think of it, everybody and their mother goes to college. Surely the demand for teachers can't decrease - besides public schooling not knowing how to handle a budget, private schools are open and available. Ginger_Warrior
According to the University of York's own employment figures (2007-09), of those who don't further their studies in psychology by doing a post-graduate course, the biggest employment sector they ended up in is healthcare (17%), followed by education (13.5%) and public admin (9.6%), none of which are directly related to psychology. I think the employment rate of psychology post-grads hangs around 66% for the six months following graduation. Put simply, you can spend £27K and three years on a degree, and there's still a third of a chance you won't find a job of any description after it. Also, if you're going to enter healthcare, there's half a dozen better ways I can think of than studying psychology. It is an interesting subject, but also a dead end career path. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
Estonian dude
Simply put, if you pay that much for that education you should go and learn a profession. Only if you are good enough to get a stipendium(?) would I consider studying that stuff. So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends. Jeffwilson99
The same is true for many, if not the majority of degrees, they aren't geared towards entering a specific job or career.

Albel
So I enrolled in a conducting class in the music department. Since I am only a Junior, I figured I was only going to learn how to conduct of course, but my band director dropped a bomb shell on me. I am actually going to be conducting a piece in the spring concert this year!!!@! It sound simple, but I have always wanted this chance, and I am finally getting it. The piece in question is Vincent Persichetti's Chorale Prelude: So pure the star. So [bleep]ing happy over this chance, I can't really put into words. We are also playing Holst's First Suite in E♭. SO HAPPY!! *fistpump* [hide=Quotes]Albel/JustinAlbel doesn't say anything anymore, just comes in, leaves an arrow and vanishes into the night :(Probablypractising some euphoniumYou nearly had me fooled, you fooler youEuphonium/10.9/10. Randox
Just finished watching the series finale of Andromeda. I'm pretty sure I stopped really being able to figure out what was going on in that show someplace back in season 4. Still, I enjoyed it, even if I had to just sit back and watch because I was totally clueless about what was going on. And what a lovely post in your blog bows. Kirschen
A stray cat that has been near my house since yesterday was taken in by my family as of today. Since we have her set up in my room, I had the honors of picking a name for her and chose 'Freya' for the time being. It sucks she is pregnant though but I can deal with that. No surprise she likes me the most compared to the rest of my family since it's been the case with nearly every cat we've had.

doomy
Finished one hell of a hard weeks word today. Jeeez minimum wage doing doing this stuff is pretty crazy, tell ya what, I'm definitely not dropping out of uni to pursue a career as a sawmiller :P Workied in the actual mill today for the first time, just filling in for someone who was away. Usually I load the wood onto the back of the planer which isn't as intense unless theres a huge order of wet wood (such as this whole week). The plus side I guess is that I'm definitely in better shape. My ribs are not all that visible any more unless I puit my arms right into the air :P Still pretty skinny though but hey. Am thinking of going to the gym this year too because I want to increase my bowling pace in cricket so I can actually do a bit more at the grade above where I usually play. We'll see if I can commit myself to it or not, it definitely feels good anyway. Doomy edit: I like sheep

RpgGamer
When SOPA reared its head, I lol'd and trusted the internet community to sabotage it, and the government to be not dumb as hell and oppose it. When Megaupload was knocked out, I was surprised, and disappointed. I enjoyed it's obscure sense of music, and wide library of data of damn near everything. Now I've discovered that MegaVideo and VideoObb were directly effected by this crackdown I am personally outraged. I WANT TO WATCH MY OBSCURE TV DAMMIT. I swear, if the US passes SOPA, or PIPA, or any other off the wall stupid bill, I'm packing my bags and moving to Estonia. I heard it's nice there. [bleep] this place. Tim
Work was good, steady flow of customers, no drunkards on a friday, only asked for ID for one person. One guy came in, looked EXACTLY like my best mate but with spacers in his earlobes and a middle-lower lip pierce. was creepy. Pretty much got the jist of closing shift down, just gotta remember the codes for the alarm. Now: Dinner + TF2. Also, Anonymous sabotaged government sites, was on my local news. Star.
Aching muscles after incorporating a new routine in my workout. I was doing a... I think it's called tricep kickback and as I was doing it I felt something pull and an immense pain surge through that muscle. Embarassing thing is I did with the weakest weights :P That's how underdeveloped they are. Not sure what to do with the day. Kirschen
Because of the new cat my family took in (Freya), I couldn't sleep with sheets last night because she urinated on them, but I am not really bothered since I noticed I slept better without them. Thinking of how I could deal with/figure out the feline since I have nothing interesting to do today as usual. The most productive things I could think of are posting on this forum (I'm looking at you, forum games) or just doodle in my sketchbook because my pen drawings are rather interesting.
