He and my aunt were in Budapest for my youngest cousin's graduation (which was yesterday, now both my cousins are dentists) and he just didn't wake up this morning. The initial diagnosis is that it was an aneursym. Everyone's kind of in shock over the whole thing. He was only 62, in good health and exersized regularly. Now that my youngest cousin is finished school, he was going to retire and turn his practice over to them (my other cousin started working with him as a partner a couple of years ago). I can't imagine what my aunt is going through right now. She's in another country and the only person she knows is my cousin and her fiancee. At least they have each other, but my dad and the rest of my aunt's family are all here. And it's my grandmother's birthday... Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. Sbrideau Posted July 10, 2013 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Got back from my work term in france this last weekend, Saw that I have the diploma already, and looks like I might be moving to Quebec City (8hrs drive since I don't even live in the province of Quebec) for a job, next week. This was so fast and it looks like I have the job, so that's why I think I'm going to be moving there as soon as next week. Considering my experience with job search, I didn't think any company would call me before August, but I already have a company from a town in New Brunswick, a company from Quebec City and a company from Montreal that called for interviews. My dad and my aunt are her kids, but it is her son-in-law and they live near each other so they became very close. He even built an addition onto his house after my grandfather died for her to live in until she needed to be put into long-term care. I spoke to my cousin last night and she said that word has spread around the town they live in and she's being bombarded with phone calls and sympathy cards. Everyone there just loved him. As the only dentist in a small town that's over an hour outside of the nearest big city, people came to him from miles around and he was always willing to help people no matter what day of the week it was or whether they had the money or not. I remember one time when we were visiting and he got a call on Sunday morning from a woman whose son had taken a softball to the face and broken a tooth. He didn't think twice about it and had her go right to the clinc so he could fix it, apologizing to us about having to go in on a Sunday (we all undersood, of course). I found out afterward from my cousin, who'd helped him, that the woman didn't have dental insurance and was practically in tears about paying for it. He just smiled at her (he was almost always smiling), had her son get in the chair and told her they'd sort it out later. He did stuff like that all the time. I guess having grown up on a struggling farm himself, he knew what it was like. We always used to joke that he couldn't get arrested in that town. :lol: Me and my brother used to spend a few weeks with them every summer when we were kids, and I'm really wishing I could have visited more as an adult but it's a 6 hour drive from where I live and I just can't afford to do that very often. Kalphite Posted July 10, 2013 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Oh hey. Guess I accidentally haven't posted here in a couple weeks, whoops. Crazy day at work last night. My manager was fuming the whole time because he had just put in his 2 weeks as he had gotten written up for hanging up on a customer that swore at him for over ten minutes on the phone because a delivery driver forgot to send a $1.25 bag of chips and refused to just take a store credit to make up for it. On top of that, an employee showed up completely shitfaced and ended up eventually spilling a drink all over the carpet. The manager ended up nearly walking out of the store after firing him on the spot and was running around the store swearing at everything. It was really....scary, lol. Never knew so much could happen in a 3 hour shift. After that I ended up going to IHOP with a friend for the first time in years. Cin-a-stax pancakes are just HEAVENLY. Afterwards we ended up watching Moonrise Kingdom at my house, which is a beautifully, artfully done movie that is probably one of the best date-movies I've seen haha. Highly recommended to anyone. Goal is to have it done by next Friday, since I have to give a presentation on it the following Wednesday. Eeesh. Doesn't help that there's literally one other scientific paper on the instrument I'm working with because it's relatively brand new. Also doesn't help that the instrument hasn't even been put back together since it's last use. So, I doubt I'll have any data to show, which is really bad. I can't stand how [bleep]ing ignorant some people can be and how they like to use facebook to show off their misguided political views. Like I'm cool with people not liking Obama, to each their own. But if you're going to be public about it, don't be a [wagon] and don't be racist too. Obama didn't invent the income tax, it's been around for a long [bleep]ing time. It's been imposed in America in some way since the 17th century and federal income tax has been in the constitution since the 16th amendment, ratified over 100 years ago at this point. It's like they think that the government takes are money and just gives it away to poor people or keeps it for itself. I just really badly want to just write them a [bleep]ing essay about the history of income tax and what it actually goes towards. Maybe they'd understand better if they knew the roads that they drive their [bleep]ing trucks on only exist because they are built and maintained because of taxation. Or that the education that they got their "good grades" from so that they can have their nice job is from a PUBLIC education system, funded largely by taxes both federal and state. Seriously, I went to the same high school as them. We all took a mandatory class that explained all of this stuff. And I know that I'm obviously not going to change anyone's mind if I were to explain all this to them and that it's just hatred for the sake of hatred but still. I know this doesn't belong here but it's pretty much what I've thought about today and I can't be bothered to find the things that annoy you thread (even though it's probably on the front page). I'm just ranting here because I know that it's not worth the argument publicly on facebook. I decided to quit Facebook myself-- even extended family members were vulnerable to melodramatics. I'd trimmed down my Contacts to just them and then after considering trimming them, too, I decided there was nothing left for me. So I nuked my account and never looked back. It's really just a convenient way to organize things with my friends and show each other stupid stuff. I don't have a smartphone, so it certainly doesn't overwhelm my life like it does with a lot of people. I've realized how much less activity this forum has since I started posting here again. It's kind of weird. It wasn't as noticeable when I was just checking in every couple of days, but now most threads have nearly no activity at all. My comp has two 512mb sticks and two 1gb sticks. I removed the 512s, and now it not only works, but it's somehow faster despite have 1gb less than it did before. Get back here so I can rub your butt. So I got 4.5 hours of double time for doing an incredibly easy job and didn't have to dig post holes (which I really didn't want to do, but he's my friend so whatcha gonna do?).
