Is 3rd age really THAT good? Are animal masks better than dragon med? The practicality is and will be for quite some time quite second nature in determining the pricetag- people don't buy them because they need them, but because they want them- they want a shield that is very special and needs 2 very rare drops from an unsoloable lvl 785 beast to create. They will probably sell for 3a quite some time. Nah. For the next couple weeks, maybe... But you have to remember these ARE a coinshare item... Which means dozens will enter the game each day after people discover an effective strategy for killing it. Anything available through coinshare becomes saturated... If you need magic defence or a more powerful healing method, then it's better. If you need strength, go for DFS. (.25 * .7 ~ .17) Putting things in perspective: People aer willing to pay 60M for 25% extra damage on your AGS. yet you're not willing to pay 85M to reduce 25% damage on 70% of your hits? A shield with not only decent defence generally, but a whopping +20 to magic!? That's THE best mager's shield in the game by so far it's not even funny. Divine sounds pretty awesome to me, I see a lot more kills for solos in most monsters and Pray Pots perhaps going up in price. Elysian's 70% chance of reducing hits by 25% makes it the best for Slayers and campers, while Spectral undeniably beats it for boss hunting. Spectral also sounds fairly interesting, +30 mage defence is great but I can't see a huge demand for it when most mage attack-based creatures that can't be seen off by Karil's only really apply to lower level players. In realation to DFS, while DFS is a generally good shield, all of them beat it in certain aspects. Jagex have, yet again, brought out a selection of items which are all good in their own way but none is the standout best. I don't know whether I'd go for Divine or Elysian really but I would definitely go for one of those due to their pro-melee specs. However as the prices are crazy at the moment I won't have my hands on one of them for a long time. This makes it the best defensive shield in the game. Not only that but the Summoning defence of Divine is far higher than DFS, and the Crush defence is three higher. Also, I personally put prayer under the defence banner, and Divine has a +3 Prayer bonus. I like the fact that they are pretty diverse in terms of effects and abilities.....although, i am surprised that none of them do much for range. I gotta say also, that the price will probably change the same way the saradomin and armadyl godswords did- they will be at a high for a while, then begin to drop. (but im no expert, haha.) Seriously, If you took the time to use that thing inside your head more commonly known as a brain you'd understand that 30% damage shaved off every attack, is alot better than +20 defence. I'm not entirely sure how armour ratings REALLY affect damage, but I'm pretty sure the higher your armour rating, the better chance you have to BLOCK, or avoid the hit, ie- a 0 splash. meanwhile, the divine shield boasts both above average defences, (even beating dfs in.. crush? not sure, but its +75, as well as a nice prayer boost!) And, a whopping 30% off of every hit that does manage to land. in pvp, you can now achieve an effective 70% resistance to ANY attack type, and what used to be 30's, are now shaved down to 20's. Kalphite queen just became another bug in my opinion, this shield is the best defence in the game. thats not to say dfs is useless, its easily comparable- especially: vs dragons, when using melee, or when you dont have any prayer. Reverents can be a pain, but you can run away from them. Just curious, do they still have teleblocking ability?Fear the church, the reverents have 85 magic!!!! Aneron Posted September 16, 2008 Share Posted September 16, 2008 Unicorn is all the hp I'd ever need in most places (including saradomin godwars, which currently remains the best money in the game), I don't know why I'd want to give up prayer for something I have a basically unlimited supply of already. I'll take the higher def of the DFS any day. The shield with a 70% chance of reducing damage by 25% looks more promising though.
