I see this freaking EVERYWHERE. Metal seeming to be a sin? My god, thats the same as calling talking on the phone a sin -_-. My mom says that its a sin, my dad says it.. i dont see any place in the bible where it specifically states "metal/screamo is a sin." Why are people so stupid and doing this..? Give me one reason... its stupid.

For one thing, we can agree that Deceide is probably the only band that could be considered "associated" with Satan. Anyway, like 3rkid said, it depends on the lyrics and the band itself. If your parents think metal is all about the devil, show them lyrics from either Christian bands or secular bands that don't involve the devil. Pretty much all I can think of.

Say "[bleep] off" and thats the end of that.

 

But seriously when I had my big headphones I would blast Death Metal and everybody would stare at me when I was walking down the halls. :lol:

 

I expect people not to like my music (gorod, CoB, Amon Amarth are some examples) but if they tell me its related to the devil I just laugh and mentally face palm.

It depends on the lyrics and band, obviously. Most metal bands would be secular or neutral, and some are even Christian or religious. The only sub-genre that seems significantly "satanic" would be black metal, and to a lesser extent death metal.

 

 

 

A blanket statement like "metal is satanic" is just ignorant of what metal is and how rich and diverse it can be.

Anyways, I can't take those old fashioned religious people seriously. There's nothing wrong with listening to music. Also, metal is an extremely broad genre. By far not all metal bands have satanic lyrics.

Because it's an easy scapegoat to blame all of society's problems on. Music is and always will be the scapegoat.

It's not that strange that people think those things. There's so much coverart that involves those pentagrams representing satanism, also things like burning down churces get a lot of attention.

I'd say the devil is associated with metal. Why doesn't anyone associate him (or her, who knows) with The Jonas Brothers or some other 'celebrity'. :?

It's not that strange that people think those things. There's so much coverart that involves those pentagrams representing satanism, also things like burning down churces get a lot of attention.

 

 

 

It doesn't help that a lot of early metal bands would use words such as "Satan" more as a metaphor than anything. (I'm looking at you, Black Sabbath). Of course to a parent who would have happened to catch wind of some lyrics I could see the confusion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But I wouldn't pay attention to them. Sure some metal does have very anti-Christian lyrics, and there are a few who would really classify themselves as Satanists (although I think most Black Metal artists generally like Paganism) but it's certainly not everything out there. It's not like you're going to get any logic out of someone like that anyways.

Out of all the different metal genres, only 1-2 of them can be considered somewhat satanistic. And so what if they are? It's not like they ask Christians to listen to their music. I'm not into satan or anything, but I fancy hearing about satan in lyrics rather than christian crap... Just my opinion though.

It's aggressive. Wouldn't say I'd pick these lyrics as my favourite, but I'd say just accept the fact that it's music and some people feel the need to express themselves violently in their music. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, as long as it's not reflected in deeds.

I don't really listen to death/black metal, though. What little I heard, I didn't pay attention to the lyrics, I just paid attention to the music. And I'm a Christian :lol: .

 

Metal isn't going to make Satan sell you timeshares (now THAT would be scary), cause you to devour orphans, or corrupt your life. That's up to you... And if you'd like to have any those happen, I'd reccomend you find help.
