Lenin64
I've had Michael Crichton's State of Fear laying around for about two years now, and I finally started it last night. It's alright so far. I enjoyed Jurassic Park and The Andromeda Strain, so this should be pretty good. Command the Murderous Chalices! sibmaster
I don't read altogether that often, but when i am in the mood, i do enjoy a good book and always finish it after getting addicted to reading it lol. I enjoyed the Malorie Blackman series starting with 'Noughts and Crosses', those books got me hooked right from the start and i couldnt put the books down until i had finished. Also the Darren Shan series of books, starting with 'Cirque Du Freak', and then the other series starting with 'Lord Loss', that series was VERY graphic, but i enjoyed/enjoy them. Also, i enjoyed reading Richard Bransons autobiography when i was on my holiday last year, it was interesting to read how he came to how he is today, he has had quite an amazing life. gauper_kid
I just bought the Ender Quartet. Reading the second book. I do say, it takes a while to get interested in it, because many things are unexplained. But, I like it so far. Have you read Enders Shadow, because it's the same time as Enders Game? I'm trying to read Ender's Shadow, but because I've already read through everything that happens in Ender's Game I'm really not interested. But I have to push along just because I am sure there will be quite a bit of extra story that I need to know to move onto Shadow of the Hedgemon. Needed a book for the plane to Florida, and something to read in my free time there, so while shopping with my Mom at Sam's Club decided to pick up Public Enemies. Looks like a good historical book, it's told in more of a story format so you learn while reading an exciting story. It's not like the movie though, I guess the movie is kinda based on it. Looks good, talks about Dillinger and all the other gangsters, along with the birth of the FBI. Tell you in a couple weeks whether it's worth a read or not. I've read Ender's Game, it was much different than a lot of things I've read. (Naked shower battles?) I haven't been able to find any of the sequels anywhere, though. And about Public Enemies, I didn't know that was a book. Can't someone come up with an original story, instead of all these books being made into movies? People will think they won't have to read anything! I've had Michael Crichton's State of Fear laying around for about two years now, and I finally started it last night. It's alright so far. I enjoyed Jurassic Park and The Andromeda Strain, so this should be pretty good. I've read both of those books, too. I was surprised how different the movie was (For Jurassic Park, I mean). They changed so many things. Andromeda Strain had a dissapointing ending. [hide=*Spoiler Alert*]Quick, we've go to find a way to stop this thing from ending the world! Nevermind, its not harmful anymore[/hide] I also read The Lost World, the sequel to Jurassic, but it just wasn't as good.
Harakiri
^^^Originality in movies? NO! I don't understand how they made a movie out of Public Enemies, because it's mostly a history book, just written in more of a story format. It still has a whole five page bibliography in the back and tons of actual pictures, I'll figure out what it's about later. I bought Speaker For the Dead, but I'll read that later. Right now reading Rendezvous with Rama, which is pretty good so far.
TheStandIn
I used to like reading, but that dumb accelerated reader program my elementary school had to do really ruined it for me. It made reading a chore. Not to mention all those horrible required-to-read books through out the years really burned me out and stamped out any interest in reading I had scraped up. The last book I had to read was Frankenstein and it was so bad I couldn't even finish it. I usually have to drag myself through those books, but I always made myself finish them. This time though, I just couldn't. I haven't picked up a book since.

Lost World was alright, but again, so many differences between book and movie. Like the Carnotaur part, they really should have included that in the movie. It's the only specific part of the book I remember  Command the Murderous Chalices! i_love_burritos
On a darker note, I really enjoy Hemingway's misogyny. I don't know if that makes me old fashioned or doomed. Right now I'm reading a few books by Michio Kaku on String Theory. He really does explain it very well, even if it may be completely unfounded.

Skeptical
I think the fantasy novels that most people here seem to love are trash. Granted, I can't judge each individual book as I haven't read them, but I find the genre completely unappealing. That genre simply allows people to escape reality and fantasize. Sure they aren't going to make those who read them more intellectual, but they are fun to read...so look at those books more so like you'd look at playing a game - for entertainment purposes only. Intellectually - Intelligence is an umbrella term used to describe a property of the mind that encompasses many related abilities, such as the capacities to reason, to plan, to solve problems, to think abstractly, to comprehend ideas, to use language, and to learn. There are several ways to define intelligence. In some ways, fantasy (more traditional books, such as those written by Tolkien and Jordan), meets, and especially when considering language and the use and syntax that the proper development and employment of it that is required to consider yourself a proficient speaker or writer, it is invaluable. "Those who give up their liberty for more security neither deserve liberty nor security." Support transparency... and by extension, freedom and democracy. Stephen King even has a blurb on it, and if Stephen King has a blurb on a book published by a manga publishing company... I also got Rouroni Kenshin...the first three. No, I didn't get the manga, I got the actual book. It's the first time it's been translated to English and I always have loved Japanese literature. They sure can write some screwed up stories. Zygimantas
God damn, I have to read To Kill A Mockingbird over the summer for first term of Freshman year. The worst thing is, I already had to read it in 8th grade. -.- Whats so good about that book anyway, its completely overrated. My teachers say its a classic, I say its an average book at its best. Why does every high school make you read that book, I really don't get it... 99 Hunter - November 1st, 200899 Cooking -July 22nd, 200999 Firemaking - July 29th, 201099 Fletching - December 30th, 2010
