How2PK
Canyon Passage A forgotten and underrated film from a nearly forgotten and underrated filmmaker. This is Tourneur's technicolor debut, and as we're used from Tourneur this also is a feast for the eye. This is a western, a kind of a strange one. On one hand there's all the typical western elements in it, but on the other hand there's a sort of maturity in this movie that is not often found within the western genre. This is because the typical ingredients are placed in the background, and this movie puts a lot of focus on the characters and the relations they have, this really makes this western something else. A must for those who enjoy the western genre, and I would recommend fans of classic Hollywood to see this movie (and other Tourneur films) too. Lordjake
Flying Tigers I was able to catch this on TV today (hurray for TCM!) It's one of the few John Wayne movies I've seen that aren't westerns, but he still plays the same character lol. It's a pretty average WW2 movie, even though it takes place before WW2... This is one of those movies that were made not long after Pearl Harbor to keep American morale up, so there's plenty of scenes where the U.S. pilots are gunning down Japanese. It's more than just a revenge story though, there's some well-layered characters too.

unkn0wnwarrior
Terminator Salvation- I usually don't like Christian Bale, but even that didn't stop me liking this one. It wasn't my favourite of the year, but it was not bad. 7/10 Gran Torino- This one took over top spot for movies I have seen this year. I am definitely buying it. 10/

Skeptical
Ok, movie horror story: A good friend and I go to the movies: not sure what we want to see, but figure that we can find something. Wolverine - Sold out Star Trek - Doesn't start for another 2 hours 17 Again - Not for heterosexual males, or essentially anyone that isn't a girl between the ages of 12-18. So we go to see a movie called "Obsessed" - long story short, it wasn't a horror movie, and it cost us $10... EACH! So we left, bought tickets to 17 Again, and made fun of Zac Efron until they kicked us out. Sorry, that was a really stupid thing to do, but at the time it seemed like a good idea. :wall: "Those who give up their liberty for more security neither deserve liberty nor security." Saru Inc
Terminator. Pretty [bleep]in good, but way too predictable. Almost got boring because you knew what would happen next. How2PK
Rymdinvasion i Lappland (Terror in the Midnight Sun) Right...A Swedish-American King Kong from Outer Space movie with lots of skiing. Who could think that something like this could be made? It's pretty bad, there's not much good moments. The creature looked pretty good though, the close-ups were less impressive. I think Barbara Wilson naked behind a transparent shower curtain is probably the best moment of this flick. Still, I wasn't really bored with it, so I rate it 5.5 out of 10. AndyPandy
Angels & Demons Was awesome, though I haven't read the book. I've heard if you've read the book you'll be disappointed. Otherwise it was a really really good film, was about 2hrs 20 mins but it didn't get boring. So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. obfuscator
The new X-Men. I thought it was really good, and the title sequence was one of the best I've ever seen. However, I don't really know the story, and I heard that was a big negative for some people; apparently they changed a lot. indy500fan
Finally got around to watching If... on Daan's recommendation. I enjoyed it very much. Malcolm McDowell was cool in such a creepy way when he was young. Oh yeah, I was going to try and see that also. I keep on losing my "to watch" lists. Well I finally got the Coraline graphic novel (which is based on the book, which I haven't read yet) so I was able to watch the movie. Then I decided to check out the rest of Neil Gaiman's movies that I haven't seen yet (still missing two shorts which I can't find). Coraline - Pretty much what I expected, dark and gloomy like Night Before Christmas with Gaiman's odd fantasy gloom mixed in. Beowulf - I didn't like the animation. I could see the need for it with the monsters and stuff but I just didn't like it. I liked the story though. MirrorMask - The craziest, weirdest and oddest of all of Gaiman's works (movies/TV/novels/comics), and if you have seen what he does then you know how much that means. After seeing pretty much all that he has done and reading a lot of what he has done, I have come to a conclusion that I like his novel/comics more than his TV/Movies. 1_man_army
Gommorah - It was an interesting film. It followed a few stories that all involved characters who were working with (or against) the Camorra in some way. It's almost the opposite of every Hollywood mafia movie as it shows their life as it is - grimy and brutal. No big money and no playboy lifestyle, nothing too flashy - even the violence is dealt with in a very simple and matter of fact way. It's a good look at a variety of different aspects of the Camorra; their control of waste management, their recruitment of new blood, how they deal with trouble and how they relate to the communities that they control. I quite liked it but it won't be for everyone - that fact that it revolves around a number of different stories could put some off as could brutality (although they doesn't bother me personally). It isn't a run of the mill gangster picture despite the wannabe Tony Montana in the film (that will make sense if you see the film) The only problem I had is that you're kind of thrown in at the deep end right from the beginning - there is a war between 2 Camorra clans but I still don't know why (not that you really need to know to be honest). It isn't a vital bit of information but I would have liked to have known. That being said, it was late when I watched this so it is possible I missed something (if anyone else who has seen the film can tell me if I'm right or not). He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
