12-Apr-2010 - Dungeoneering Skill!

You get those, but in the same Dungeon. Daemonheim seems to be the only location for the skill. This, like MA, should've been a standalone game and not put into Runescape.

The new skill seems a bit odd. I don't like how the only place to train it is in one area, with the only rewards used outside would be obtained from getting tokens for completing dungeons. Truthfully, I haven't tried it yet, but this is what I get from it, and it sounds like a minigame to me.

However, I could definitely see some good updates and expansions in the future. Jagex may create dungeons in the future, marked with the dungeoneering skill icon rather than the red exclamation point, where you need a certain level in dungeoneering. This could allow for high level boss monsters where not everyone could go and kill, also allowing for better drops. They could also have dungeons using this that could benefit other skills, such as having ones with high level rocks (and possibly a new rock giving a new ore).

Like I said, though, I've never tried it and don't know much in detail. But the future is bright.

Didn't think this deserves its out thread so I will post it here. There are many "Ghosts" of Fremmies wondering the outer rings of Daemonheim. I am not sure if anyone has yet tried Ghost speaking ammy, ring of visibility or Jenacas ring, or have even mentioned this but I think it may be worth looking into.

Something else that caught my eye as strange is almost on the most northern part there is a "ghost ghost" I have decided to take a screenie because it is very very hard to see this and I almost missed it. It may also be worth checking into because it is not like the other ghosts in the area.

God, could you imagine two years going into a Archaeology skill where we could've dug up stuff that helped our are skills as well as finding rare, untradeable armor that could've been fixed up for a super high, but one time only price? :-|

Dig up 2nd age armour parts, ancient seeds, new ores, fossilised burgers, giant dragon bones......yea, I'll take that, even if the armour requires a continous repair cost. At least it makes sense.

Well, all they need to do is kill all the NPCs and monsters in the dungeon that we have now, and start filling it up with sand.

Let's not waste the graphics, just replace the existing, crappy looking fish and armour etc with the respective new design.

How original. A ice copy of Kril (First demon boss Dungeoneering)...

Though i gotta say that looks cool (Kril is the coolest looking boss in GWD), it's sad to recolour same monster and release it as a new monster.

However...if Jagex made some kind of connection with the demons inside Dungeons with Kril at GWD, it would be better. But that has not happened.

Give them a break man. I mean, they only had two years. If they had to rush it a little I'm okay with it.

Everything also looks almost overloaded with detail. I think they tried a little too hard with the graphics and overshot things a bit. :P

Aren't it the only rewards from the slayer skill itself the better monsters to kill and the (after smoking kills) point reward system ?

Dungeoneering has bigger dungeons and ... a point reward system ?

I'd really wish they'd spend more time on the mechanics of the game and less on the graphics... My favorite game of all time is called C-Dogs... you may still be able to find it on google. It's an old DOS based game that was amazing for 2 players... "dog-fight in the dungeon" with my older brother kept me entertained for hours.

Graphics are crap on today's standards... who cares! game play is amazing. Same with like, worms or age of empires.

99 dungeoneering achieved, thanks to everyone that celebrated with me!

Well, Kril is Zamorakian general. This dungeon is about a mahjarrat who's a Zamorakian supporter. I bet Kash's last name is Tsutsaroth.

2 years, and the most important monsters (the bosses) of the skill are a copies of Kril? Wow...

Well, in the Bilrach notes it says that it took him nearly two hundred years or more to reach the bottom. I'm guessing it'll only take around 96 or so years for someone to reach level 120 in this skill.

Slayer can exist, and pretty much existed without a point system. You don't trade points for abyssal whips and granite mauls either; the abyssal demon and gargoyles drop them. 10 bucks to whoever can guess which monster drops which item.

If Dungeoneering can get rid of the token system, such that I loot/obtain/earn my rewards off opening difficult rooms, passing complex puzzles, defeating and looting boss monsters, then I won't have THAT much to say about it. If non-overpowering resources such as potions, fish, summoning pouches that fills a certain gap in their respective skill can be brought out of the dungeon in limited quantity per trip(or even become tradeable), such that I contribute to other skills as a Dungeoneer, even better.

I'm sure there are newer bosses further down, there are quite a lot of new monsters in this thing so while it IS cheating a bit, eeeeh it's not the end of the world.

No it's not, but look at this:

1) SOL = Call it Staff of Saradomin

2) Demons looking like Kril

3)...will these "copies" continue?

Just saying. Personally i like new artwork. It's a shame, because i am VERY sure there are many great artists in Runescape community. Jagex could work with them to make new concepts of monsters. I mean seriously, who wouldn't like to draw a drawing and see it be released into a game? Or better, get rewarded for it with life time membership if Jagex feels generous!

This opportunity would also help people who are interested Game Design (artwork). So it's a win-win.

It would be kinda cool to smuggle promethium ores out of Daemonheim to be attached to rune armor at very high smithing level (101 smithing to do a full set, maybe?). High level, untradable smithing update, anyone? ;)

From what I've played of it so far I like it.

I just wish the drops when in a team were delt out to the person who did the most damage, the teams I've been in others grab all the food instead of splitting it between the team. :/

I think Jagex have a pretty good computer graphics department anyway, but that would be an interesting idea. I don't think that 2 items are necessarily a pattern though since there a lot of people think the SoL is linked to the Saradomin Sword so it looking like it would make sense.

For now it's not a pattern no, but just expressing my disappointment of no new art. But if SoL look would be acceptable, then like you said, it should be linked to Saradomin sword. So in other words, make sure that SoL works as a Saradomin item in GWD.

So just fought the plane freezer boss that was a tad ridiculous. I must say as I go through these dungeons with my friends its a great source of laughs. Some of the things they make you do are so childish/annoying its hard not to laugh. I will say its going to be extremely difficult for someone to achieve 99 and soloing at least at my level is near impossible.

You completely avoided the part of the statement that degrades your opinion.

Slayer's point system: do you like it or not?

Because general consensus seems to say that slayer after Smoking kills is much more enjoyable than it was before. If a point reward system can make one skill more enjoyable, why can another skill not have a point system?

Can anyone even acknowledge if they liked my parody song?

Hey, I liked the parody song; it was pretty cool.

The problem with this mini-game as a skill is that soon people will tire of it, like they do all mini-games. How would you like to train Pest Control or Stealing Creation to some hypothetical level 99? Man, you would hate the game long before getting there. That is what is going to happen here. People enjoy it now because it is new. But, when you are trying to raise your Dungeoneering Skill from 85 to 88 because some quest requires such a level, you will be cursing what happened yesterday.

As a mini-game it is fun. But, it is just another way of doing everything else in Runescape. At some point, everyone will ask, why am I doing Runecrafting or Mining or Smithing or whatever in Dungeoneering when I could be doing the same thing much faster and easier in the regular game, and get to keep the results to boot? (Actually, the Skill is two days old and they are already asking that.)

So, for everyone who thinks that this is great as a skill, we will check you out in six months after 4 more mini-games have been added, a new Godswar dungeon is in play and new areas have been provided and see if you are still training Dungeoneering, or if you have given it up for good. For, there is no more game incentive to train this skill than to train any other mini-game. Would you train Soul Wars, or Stealing Creation, or Castle Wars to level 99? Of course not. And no one else would either. That is why making this a skill is such a colossal mistake.
