magzar
magzar, for what it's worth, I mostly am where you are. I think this is a neat piece of content: it's just not properly integrated into the game as a skill. And the reward system is embarrassingly idiotic. Leaving the arguments aside for the moment, has anyone truly figured out this prestige/reset business? Last night I did a reset because it suggested I do so since I couldn't advance to the next floor at my level, but from then on I got 0 prestige points. Was I supposed to restart at the first level or something? How does this work? Thanks. The prestige system is just how many individual floors you've gone through without repeating one. So if you're able to go through the first 15 floors at will and start on the first then when you finish the 15th your prestige level would be 15. If at that point you can't reach the 16th floor yet, then you can press reset and it will save your prestige level so if you started back from the beginning your prestige level would be 15 as long as you didn't do the same floor more than once. (to simplify it's how many floors you've done in a row without repeating any, and if you repeat one then it reverts to 0, so if you have no choice but to repeat because your level is too low then it's best to reset and start back from the first floor. Doing the highest floor you can reach over and over will slow down your experience significantly. I think that may be why so many people think the xp is so slow) So currently my previous prestige is 5 and my current prestige is 2. The max floor I can play is 7. Last night I logged off which means I need to start over. Should I reset my prestige and start from floor 1 or should I start from floor 3? I would continue from the 3rd floor. you don't have to restart from the beginning if you log out, just make sure you don't go to a floor you've already finished since the last time you reset. [hide]Damnit, I tripped over Magzar's half inflated blow-up doll and hurt myself. I wish he wouldn't leave that thing lying around. -.-[/hide]
Den
Also, didn't Mod MMG say something about 'unique' and 'never been used in a MMO before'? The noob. He said it had never been used in any other game as a skill, if im not mistaken. :P it's trying to party with yourself, not play. Either way, the fact that it is even in there means they coded it to display an error when you try to do that. So they are intentionally trying to penalize solo play? Seems like it and is one of the things I dont like about the skill. In 4 months when many people move away from this, il have to log on, ask friends to join me in raiding (il call it that), and after spending 10-20 mins because some people were "busy" or "didnt want to", il have that much less time to do it myself. ........::::: Rainy's YouTube Channel - Rainy's Twitter - Rainy's Facebook - Rainy's DeviantArt - Rainy's Tumblr - Rainy's Tip.It Profile :::::......... Arcane_Rift
Anyone do any testing to see if is faster to get to boss as fast as possible or if it is worth getting all the bonus rooms? Just talked with the rank 1 and 2 players and they said they are doing 4 man trips. I thought they would be soloing or duoing it. It seems like it takes too long to do with 4 people but maybe I'm missing something. ~ Arcane Rift ~:: 99 Smithing - 2007-03-04 :: :: :: 99 Crafting - 2007-06-18 :: 99 Fletching - 2007-08-27 :::: :: 99 Strength - 2009-05-28 :: :: :: :::: :: :: 99 Prayer - 2011-11-27 :: :: 99 Slayer - 2012-01-15 :::: :: 99 Summoning - 2012-12-07 :: 99 Firemaking - 2012-12-09 :: 99 Woodcutting - 2013-01-17 :: 99 Mining - 2013-01-31 ::
Arch_Tyrant
I can definitely see all the skills going to 120.They can skill keep skill mastery at level 99 but 'true' skill mastery will be at level 120 (which is about 104m exp I think). I wouldn't mind if they did this but it would be a huge slap in the face to all maxed players. (Also a total level of 3000 would be possible  )
Me_Hate_Libs
I didn't do the whole song as that would've taken forever. This isn't all how I feel, was trying to come up with something decent. I think it's funny, but meh. A long, long time ago...I can still rememberHow that Game used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chanceThat I could make those levels advanceAnd, maybe, I could something new for a while. But 2009 made me shiverWith every update they'd deliver.Bad news on the homepage;RSOF'ers voicing their rage.I cant remember if I criedThe Jagex idea pool completely dried,But something touched me deep insideThe day the Runescape died. So hi-hi, awful Daemonheim.Took a Glider to the fighter,In the desert so dry.And them good old members were downin' pills of CyanideSingin, "this'll be the day that I die.""this'll be the day that it died." Did you think it was a skill you'd love,And did you have faith in Jagex above,If the Q& A's told you so? Did you think you were on a rollDid you think you still had a soul? And did you that that we're all real slow? Well, I know that you're in love with itEven it's not a money pit.You use all you're computer tools. To make all your players feel like fools. You're were an awesome Britsh buckBut deserve incarceration for how bad this sucks,But I knew we were out of luckThe day the Runescape died. So hi-hi, awful Daemonheim.Took a Glider to the fighter,In the desert so dry.And them good old members were downin' pills of CyanideSingin, "this'll be the day that I die.""this'll be the day that it died." Now nearly ten years you've been on your ownAnd wallets grew fat on this rolling stone,But thats not how it going to be.When the Content team sang for King(Andrew) and Queen(Paul),As about an awesome skill they'd just seen. And a voice that came from you and me, Oh, and while the Gowers were still aroundThey gave the game over to a clown. The community was adjourned; No verdict was returned. And while MHL read a book by Groucho Marx,The RSOFers rioted in Falador park,And we waited for our interest to sparkThe day the Runescape died. We were singing,Hi-hi, awful Daemonheim.Took a Glider to the fighter,In the desert so dry.And them good old members were downin' pills of CyanideSingin, "this'll be the day that I die.""this'll be the day that it died." I totally agree, I understand wanting group play, but if your going to offer a solo part why not make it complete. SirHartlar
I've read the KB articles and I still don't fully understand the basic mechanics of the game. I think I'll just wait until a guide comes out that gives me a rundown of how to get decent xp. The one thing I don't like is that you have to complete a full 'run' before you get any Dungeoneering xp, seems really unfair to those that have bad connections or don't want to spend a long time doing massive floors. I'd still rather get the xp as you go along, for opening each door or killing each monster etc. That is how it works for the rest of the skills, seems silly to change it. They could make it so that you don't get any xp for the skills you use in the dungeon, instead it gives you xp in Dungeoneering, and you can get xp rewards for other skills possibly? Flyingjj
Alright, I think I'm finally ready to give my input. I'm level 6 in the skill (pretty much level 7, like 14exp off), and I've put probably a good 4 hours or so into it. It was a lot faster up until my last two dungeons which took an hour plus, just cause I like to take my time. I've been flying solo the whole time, and enjoying myself all the way. Sure, the experience is slow as heck, (I've clocked a total of about 40k exp across all my skills since its release), but I'm having FUN. Now there's a concept. I'm playing the dungeons, exploring, using my skills to their fullest, and all-around enjoying myself. Sure, my skills aren't gaining much in the way of levels, but I am taking pure enjoyment out of this game, and that is why I give it my stamp of approval. I am actually having fun playing the game. What a concept. Actually, I think this skill fits in quite nicely with Racheya's Tip.it Times article this week. Sure I'm not leveling my skills, but the thing is, I don't need to to get pure fun out of this update. I may well spend the majority of my RS time dungeoneering from now on, limited as that time my be given my college class schedule.

Central_Keeper
I said WoW because that's the biggest and well known of those. It wasn't the Instance Dungeons that I was sighting either. It was the group play aspect that WoW is practically entirely reqired to play. This is the first step towards that. I also think this is the final break between me and Jagex. I do agree that WOW focused more on team oriented aspect as a game on its own. But it would be pointless for RS to release another soloable grinding skill. Even thought I really like doing things myself, but at least this will offer more variety compare to all other skill so far (not to mentioning training all other skills as well). After all, its only one skill that share the same similarities, majority of the skills still belong to a genre of their own. At least try the new skill yourself to see if you like it or not. Depend on which direction the overall game is going, you can play along with it, or disagree with it, or just walk away completely. PS: I don't like the new skill myself because it needs a group (reason why I never try WoW in the first place, too much meeting and clan dramas I heard), but at least I am going to give it a try before I superficially judge it and generalize it. (At least I should be able to gather up some RS friend for fun in game activities) a happy Runescaper
Huge Noob
I'm only level 5 in the skill so far but from what I've seen I've liked. I did a duo run with my RL best friend for the first 3 levels, and tried going solo for the last two, although Java kept crashing on me. It's a cool change of pace to leveling skills. I'll be doing it some more tonight after work, that's for sure.

Still, RS has been same to me as always, how I started the game and still playing the game. It's your overall mentally and how you rate the game. I have always been F2P, the only difference for me I can feel is that the game getting easier. That's about it a happy Runescaper
Guthorm
Is there a way to completely avoid the icefiend's special attack? If I run I will hit a dead end before the attack ends and have to waste a second or two running in another direction, by that time the special takes around 50% of my hp already. Guthorm
If you run in circles and don't lag, yes, but it's much harder when you're not solo.
