Bought it. This game is even more fun than I thought :)

Just started up Minecraft for the hell of it with a grass mod installed (plus Better Grass as well), and started wandering on peaceful.

 

I have found the most epic mountain I've ever seen, including when I was using BiomeTerrain mod:

Seriously, I have no idea even where to begin building here...

There was an update today. Gift codes are now working, but according to Notch's dec 11th blog update, there was supposed to be another bit of content added before the game went to beta. Anyone know what's going on there?

I've so far gotten 3 different people addicted to it: this game is like a highly contagious disease, or possibly crack. Pick your simile.

 

Does anyone have any strategies about the best way to get iron? So far, I've basically just been strip mining at 20 or more blocks below sea level, but I think that I may waste more iron on picks that I recover from the extraction operation.

 

Next up: a huge library built in multiple massive trees on an island floating in the sky, with a glass skybridge from it to my main fortress.

I might be inefficient for it, but I just create a [bleep]-ton of stone pickaxes and mine the [cabbage] out of everything I see.

I don't use iron picks for anything other than getting my first few diamonds, redstone and gold. Other than that it's all stone or diamond.

I tunnel really far down, then work my way sideways, going up a step every so often. I've got 2 stacks of 64 in about 3 hours doing that, but i'm sure there are better ways.

Yeah I get most of my iron from big cavern complexes. Its important to locate and settle on top of one.

I really want to start a smp server with maybe like 10 other people... I think I might commander my sisters old laptop and use it to set one up. We'll see though, I need to understand it a bit more before that. If I do I'll open it up to anyone on TIF.

Ooh, that sounds like it might be fun.

You know what? [bleep] spiders.

 

They're faster than you. They have a slightly higher jumpheight than you. The area you strike with the sword doesn't always register as you think it should (to see this better in action, attack a chicken). They're essentially TANKS, taking 4 hits to kill with a stone sword. Oh, and did I mention? THEY'RE [bleep]ING SPIDERS. WITH THE BEADY RED EYES AND THE FURRY BODIES.

 

They. Freak. Me. The. [bleep]. Out.

 

They're also the most (only?) commonly spawned monster in dungeon mob spawners. And I have 4 dungeons I've marked for clearing out in my mine. All filled with spiders.

 

ALL MY HATE, NOTCH. ALL MY HATE.

I know what you mean. These things are terrors in-game and IRL.

 

No loving god would allow these things to exist, and in such variety of horror.

Thanks to gift codes, you could get someone else with paypal to pay for you and you write them a check instead...or something.

And Kim? Be glad those aren't Painterly Pack style spiders. Those ones come close to creeping me out for some reason >_> oh, and the fact they don't have skeleton riders is also a plus. Betting those would give you even more fits, they always do for me since I suck at dodging arrows.

 

Seriously though, spiders and skeletons are the only things that give me issues when it comes to dodging - spiders are just too unpredictable for me, and skeletons... if I don't have a bow I'm boned, pretty much.

 

Oh, and to Kim and Dizzle, you both could go SeaNanners' route and use a block of TNT to clear out the dungeon.

Also, thinking about redownloading the grappling hook at least so I can navigate this monster of a mountain without falling to my doom repeatedly, since I know I will since I'm the clumsiest person alive. Oh, and you know something?

You know what's really bad? When you build a desert home, and they start running across the one-wide entrance to your base that you made. They can't fall down, yet their bodies frantically push against each others as they try to drop in beside your unexpecting, tasty body. UGH. You're not the only one who hates spiders.

 

Coincidentally, I have a spider spawner right next to my mineshaft. Every freakin' time I go down there they start shrieking at me.

Wow. I really do have an underground ocean. If Link spawned a hollow-mountain biome, I think I spawned a copius-caves biome. This is getting ridiculous, and god help me once I switch from peaceful. :blink:

I found a lava lake deep underground and some diamonds (!) behind it. I made myself a diamond sword and went to adventure a bit. After about two (in-game) days, I fell into a cave, in which a zombie killed me. Luckily I still have three diamonds left... I'm going back to that cave and I'll kill every single moving thing and reclaim my sword. :twisted:
