Just want to let people know I *think* they may have invited more people to play the New Interface System Alpha. I just received my e-mail and it is official!

 

It says that in the update post:

 

"Today, we've also opened up the New Interface Alpha to everyone who registered their interest (although you must still be a member in order to access the alpha)."

About time, should have done this day NIS alpha went live, now I'm behind/playing catch up on the early access people once more on beta/alpha testing

Still awaiting my access for html5 though :/

Depends on how much % of your RAM is in use, the fact that it's DDR2 doesn't change much when it comes to this kind of games. Usually FPS in Rs has more to do with the processor than anything else.

I was sent a valid email from Runescape for the NIS beta, but I never registered my interest for it. (I've learned my lesson from the EoC debacle, they need better testers than I can be.) So what gives?

Yeah I feel kind of bad for being one of the gold membership players who hasn't done much on beta. The issue is optimization and making it so much harder to play web the FPS is jacked up.

I'm sort of annoyed that I wasn't able to do anything to help with the beta in general, since their system isn't really set up to handle submitting that information in a useful manner.

 

(however, it seems that the alpha filled up before i had access, so i was shut out of the area where i could have helped...)

 

overall, I think maybe they should start paying attention to how their testing is set up?

 

can't just throw it out there and be all "hey, test this thing, and if you find something, we'll kinda find out through this untested feedback system"

 

also, it's unclear if their html5 game was actually recording anything when it was being run, or if they were just wasting our time

We'll try to keep this thread up to date with our patches as we launch them. It's worth noting that we have a 'warm-fix' system in place for the HTML5 client which means all you need to do is refresh your page to get the latest one - no game updates required!

 

16/05 - 14:01

- Fixed some chat privacy setting bugs with public chat

- Store data in different areas of local storage for different languages of the game

- Don't show "are you sure you want to leave" message when you try to navigate away from an error page

- Fix some roof-remove bugs

- Fix bug with players floating above some underground geometry

- Fix bug with Gnome Gate teleporting the player underground

- Fix Dwarf Cannon not rotating correctly

- Fix transparency of items being dragged in the bank

- Fix some texture corruption causing models to appear black

-Fixed some issues that caused the customisation booth to land on the wrong floor

-Fixed flags/locations for worlds in the lobby so they don't all say UK

-Optimise areas of the world that allow you to do server-side actions, so they can be sent to the graphics card in fewer batches - this will also allow things to be 'op-ed' from further away

-Improved the error page that says your browser/computer doesn't support everything we need, so that it says exactly what you are missing

-Fixed player height above ground during some animations

-Fixed Spanish version of HTML5 client

• Chat tabs now only flash three times to alert you to any changes.

• The camera now scales based on the zoom level of the player.

No' date=' not at the moment. We quite like the “theme park” feel that Gielinor has, with a rich variety of location styles nudging up against each other.

 

 

When the NIS and HTML5 projects merge into one Beta, will that connect to the live game save still?

 

Any pre-release version of the NIS will not be able to connect to the live game, unfortunately. However we are going to be looking at some sort of XP reward for those that participate in the later betas.

 

 

Roughly how far along is the optimization process for the HTML5 client right now?

 

It’s still quite early days. Most of our efforts have been on fixing the worst bugs and implementing the final features (such as world map, account creation, that sort of thing). This has taken longer than anticipated, and the optimisation blitz is planned to start early June.

 

 

Will our character models see an update to the level of detail? When the NIS camera is merged into the Beta, you'll be able to zoom in much closer!

 

We don't have anything planned for the short term, no.

 

 

Do you have any plans to add lighting effects to the various light sources available in POH dungeons? At the moment the only shadows are from the rooms above.

 

We don't have any plans to touch POH for the time being, however we are constantly updating the graphics, and POH will be given a makeover at some stage.

- Improve shader pre-load system, so it pre-loads a set of common shaders by default (notably this is needed because of a current restriction in WebGL which only allows shader compilation on the main thread)

- Fix some disappearing models when there are bridges and other similar areas of the game

- Add in submenu system to the minimenu

- Improve efficiency of particle emitters by allowing them to be more completely combined with the geometry they are attached to

- Allow copy-pasting of error messages!

- Add in QuickChat support

- Add in colour-picking interface support (for selecting colours for customisable items, like various capes)

- Improve GL context loss handling

- Fix reflection of water depth fog

- Add lighting detail option to graphics options

- Fix crash bug when building the map

- Fix some more random crash bugs

- Stop players/NPCs from walking through the corners of buildings and ending up flying in the air!

- Improve JAG support slightly

- Some improvements to the camera

- Some support for the new interface system

- Improve camera behaviour when you have a low frame rate

- Add some collision support to the camera

I tried today HTML5 on a friend's computer with an i5, no graphics card though (or at least that's what I found out), it ran nice until I ran it on all max settings, I was probably getting around 8 fps when I did it that way

I'm on an i5 3570k, so it should be able to cope, but the problem currently is getting the actual thing to load >_>

Oo, panning around with the camera is no longer all slow and stuff. They really put a boost to it.

Running a 3570k too, I get around 8-15 fps running around in populated areas like Edgeville, and 25-30 in unpopulated.
