11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

The normal set sounds a lot like pvp armor in that it's tradeable but not repairable, and it takes a long time (at least as of now it seems like it will), although not necessarily hard, to acquire. IMO It will be very interesting to see how the price of the set reflects that in the current market.

If the armor takes forever to acquire and the tradeable version only lasts 10 hours and can't be repaired, I predict most people will just opt for the better+repairable version and not even bother with the other tradeables. Nex sets are immediately availible and are reasonably affordable now, are not much worse, and don't disappear.

The only way people will buy the irreparable ones are if they look cool.

Does anyone have a piece of the new equipment already?

saw somone on reddit had all the melee scrolls (think it was melee anyway), they just need to get the items now

Link?

The problem with that are the requirements and time to make it though. I'd imagine fairly wealthy players who don't feel like playing the minigame and getting 90 runecrafting/smithing/crafting might just buy the equipment if the price is right.

10hrs is a fairly long time of combat, though. If they are fairly easily obtainable after unlocking the scrolls, there will potentially be a price balance point.

This is obviously photoshopped because there's a limit on how many voyages you can do per day and scrolls only come from certain islands which can't even be unlocked from first day's voyages. Was in Mod Raven's fc this morning, she said it'll be at least a couple of weeks before we start seeing armour, which can be confirmed by the fact that Jagex hasn't even put them in G.E. yet. They know there won't be any in there yet.

If this is true i'd love to know how they could have possibly gotten ALL of the melee ones. Each piece requires 4 scrolls so that's 12 scrolls for one set.

I'm pretty sure that's actually impossible given the daily limit on voyages.

No option to name my ship The Salty Spitoon, The Ugly Barnacle nor The Krusty Krab.

Jagex, if you're gonna shoehorn in a kids show, at least pick a show that's relevant to the sea. :(

Seems the black marketeer is the money sink for POP. Chimes sell for 200 gp each and Bamboo sells for 300 gp each. At the moment, seems to be a 75k gp limit per day.

Wouldn't doubt that the limit will increase as players improve the port in addition to offering more items to buy. Sounds like a great idea.

I'd imagine the higher tier port supplies are going to cost a much higher price too.

At first I was mad when I realized there were My Little Pony references snuck in, but now I'm even angrier now that I realize the huge missed opportunity for them to add in some Spongebob references. They seriously opted to go with brony pandering over actually fitting Spongebob references? Major disappointment.

My ships are officially called Enterprise & Intrepid, but in spirit they go by my preferred choices of Freedom and Prometheus :D The ships have massive bonuses once you start upgrading them too, I was expecting the crew to have more of a bearing but so far the ships nearly have the requirements for the easier voyages just with a captain present. Sure that will change when the higher req. voyages start being more prominent all 800s or 1600s etc. and make crew selection more important.

Crew selection is already important for those missions with 1600 combat requirements or something like that.

I meant at the moment while they still spam us with the all 400 voyages crew selection is irrelevant, when they stop giving you the 400s and all the voyages available are at least 1600+ then real strategy and crew selection will be truly relevant.

Let's hope they go that high, fast.

I'm a bit disappointed that there aren't more fun examines/dialogue/areas (some stairs don't go anywhere for example). But it looks great, and it seems like a solid game.
