Got two great specials @ 600 jade each and 800 jade barmaid's tip. Still not a single 10k captain. Hoping to get up to 3k jade with this ^^.

I have 4 10k captains. I'll trade you one for a better jade mission.

Man everyone appears to be rather jaded about the bowl.

On a serious note, I'm getting seriously sick of getting bad captains... despite the fact i have 4 good captains on meam, dont have any good ones on my tank, and seem to be getting nothing but 100/50 stat captains >.<

Should I be stockpiling cherrywood for ship, or get the other upgrades with it? already got shipwright/bar.

Get the ship, and save some for totems later on as well.

@Arcane, done deal.

Lmao nice jade pun.

Yeah I would use up spare voyages on getting other resources. Honestly don't worry about focusing on places like the arc when you want jade too. I've been focusing on the arc to get 3k bamboo for the last two lodging upgrades and getting plenty of bowl voyages too.

On another note I got my barmaids tip for 800 jade. It was a triple spec voyage and I sent it out at 78%. If my barmaids tip and special voyage both come back successful in the early morning I should have around 3100 jade saved.

Also I need another 500 bamboo then ill focus on the hook for 1750 slate for both lodging upgrades.

Question #2, should i focus on using all my voyages a day, or sending out as many cherrywood missions as possible, with one on top?

I would advise getting all of your voyages out because it helps push you through each zone much more faster than just getting the best voyages done. You'll start noticing that you will have a large surplus of cherry wood at the end of the scythe and that's probably because jagex probably expected the player base to not be as determined to brute-force the potential for each days voyage allotment. You should be able to get out all of your cherry wood voyages in a day if you use a VNC (virtual network controller) with your smartphone while out doing things. I advise using Logmein as it it loads sections of the screen at a time rather than Teamviewer which tends to try loading the screen in a window-blind fashion. If you can't use a VNC then I believe your next best option would be to focus on a lesser resource area because you'll still receive your highest zone voyages quite frequently.

If I get a trait from a voyage that decreases the chances of death, will that "cancel out" her current increased risk of death? Or is it impossible to have "contradictory" traits like that?

I'm not sure if it works the same for perks that increase/decrease chances of death but my captain came with a trait that decreased seafaring and later I got a voyage that gave a perk to increase seafaring for my captain and they canceled each other out. It still shows the two perks obviously, but they technically cancel each other out in terms of stats.

But I guess since we don't really know how much the perks actually increase/decrease the chance of death it would really just be an assumption that they have an equal chance of decreasing/increasing the chance of death.

I think that's your best setup except drop the golem and add another sea witch. I've never owned a golem and think they are a waste.

Here's how I look at special crew members: If two normal members surpass the stats of two special crew members, I don't get them. With golems, they've been pointless as I just put a morale and combat crewman for more points (Cherrywood golem is just barely better by 100 points). The siren, chimera, etc however have been worth it at least 1 region past where they're obtained.

My set-up has been 4 of each normal crew (replaced with special crew of matching high stat), 3 solidarity as I use them on most trips and will get a 4th when I get the next ship, 3 merchants as they pay for themselves 10x over. I've had the other 4 slots with golems and soothsayers. Now, I'll probably just fill the slots with normal and special crew since golems are useless and soothsayers don't seem worth it unless someone provides solid data on chances. As others point out, the speed crewman is useless.

Here's what I did going into the cherrywood area: First, I had a maxed gunpowder crew and ship in addition to a third ship. I seemed to be getting high success thanks to the early ease bonus, which I use to max out on cherrywood voyages (even the adventurer voyages). I upgraded the rudder, the deck, then my crew, now I'm working on the hull and prow. I think what helps is I haven't been doing scroll and trade good voyages. Figured there's no rush as I'll not be the first to get armor or scrimshaws. This also reduced the number of failures meaning less material or crew lost (zero in my case).

So I'm in the Scythe region here is my current crew and resources.

and im 25% to bowl

I have all the cherrywood deck items and the rudder upgrade. Is it more important for me to finish upgrading my ship first or should I focus more on crew now? Also can anyone advise what are the building upgrades in order of importance? I do have a third ship already and Ive just upgraded my shipwright to boost my stats by 3%. I havent touched my bar yet except the basic upgrade and havent touched my crew house either. Any tips are appreciated

Finally got a 10k captain today. Her traits:

Mutinous: increased risk of captain death

Glutton: reduced speed

Jesus, is every 10k captain cursed?

Not really, I have;

  • one captain with 2 negative (base) and 2 positive traits (missions) (misery guts, liability, loyal, fast learner). Stats at level 5: 545, 1110, 545, 525 - not a bad captain at all.
  • one captain with 4 positives: 2x tough-as-nails (base), workhorse and Quick-footed. (2x chance to avoid death, both others are improved speeds)... stats of this one at level 6: 1120, 560, 560, 790. Love this captain

EDIT: recruited my third 10k captain: Landlubber (reduced sf) and Tactician (+1% ship's combat) as traits.

Success on my special and barmaids tip voyages for a whopping 1400 jade. I got a 120 jade voyage coming in that'll put me at 3250 jade or so.

I have two 10k captains. One had two positive traits, namely Eager (+morale) and Plucky (+combat), the second had Glutton (-70 speed), Quick-footed (+20 speed) and Eagle-eyed (+SF). I understand why there are negative traits, but conflicting ones seem a bit... counterintuitive.

First day in the Bowl! My barmaid's mission is for 800 jade and 5.8k stats overall. I'm hoping for success, that would make for an awesome start. The special voyages' stats are a bit steep though. 14k in a given stat for story missions, 19k total for a scroll mission. Ouch.

Stopped at 60%-ish in scythe to work on port upgrades (bamboo, gunpowder, slate and if possible cherrywood upgrades), so far so good. Also built 3 whale heads to attract more whaler voyages, I might be wrong, but I think he's bound to plate rewards.

Voyages have been a pita for me past few days, I mean I get good ones up but like all 3 are Morale or Morale/Seafaring and I manage to send 2 out but the ones tht replace them are also Morale so it's like either reroll perfectly good voyages or leave ship 3 doing sod all.
