It's stories like the above why I solo dungeons, which sucks cause I'd like to try out some of the multiplayer content. I have no problem setting aside a few hours to explore a large dungeon on my own. Well, except for the annoying fact that when I white-screen while soloing, I can't get back to the dungeon I was working on. Why? Multi dungeons allow you to rejoin your party, but when soloists try to use that feature, all we get is a snarky "You want to party with yourself?" message. Uh, yea, that's why I was SOLOing that dungeon to begin with, duh? I'd like to go back to it and get my tokens, too, thank you very much. But no, I have to start over, losing however many minutes I just invested in that failed raid. So yea, as much as I enjoy Dungeoneering, there is massive room for improvement on the solo experience. I can understand why we can't log off then return to a started dungeon (actually, no I can't. Why is that, now?) but if we're booted out due to circumstances beyond our control? Why should we lose our exp? A possible fix would be to add a timer to the solo dungeons similar to the logout timer - if you start a solo dungeon and have to logout, you should have like ten minutes to log back in and resume the dungeon. That way, if you white-screen or idle out due to lag, you at least have a chance to finish the dungeon you were working on.

Wow, that's what I like about this community, fast, honest and helpful answers. Okay, ignoring it myself now. Thanks!

I was soloing a dungeon earlier and I happened to notice the "Walk here" prompt jumped to the multiple options prompt when my cursor passed over a seemingly empty spot. Being the naturally curious person that I am, I pointed it back over the spot and right-clicked, only to find that odd menu with what I can only describe as the "Examine nothing" option in the pic. The three empty lines in my chat window are the results of "Examine nothing", namely, more nothing. The anomaly appeared on the exact tile I'm standing on in the pic, just to show there was nothing blocking me from moving through it - whatever "it" is. So what do you guys think, is it a bug? Just some random artifact missed by Jagex's playtesters? Or are there darker forces at work within the dungeons of Daemonheim that only the incredibly observant (or in my case, lucky) can root out? Has anyone else encountered anything like this, in or out of Daemonheim?

Regarding: "Login screen - Ad in disguise?" While I sympathize with the players who don't want to be "sold to" when logging into f2p (it wasn't so long ago that I myself was f2p and feeling annoyed by the very same issue) I can also understand the marketing mindset behind the "advertising" in the Lobby. Runescape membership is, at its core, a product, and you can't sell a product without some level of advertising. Having worked in the retail industry for the last two and a half years, I have a better understanding of how hard it is to sell "undesirable" products; you have to sell your proverbial butt off to get one yes out of a hundred no's, and yes, sometimes you have to get kinda pushy and heavy-handed to get that 1-in-100 yes. That's just the nature of the beast. Granted, this is a bit heavier-handed than usual, but memberships are Jagex's bread-and-butter and they really don't have many options when it comes to advertising their product. Sure, they already advertise in game, but the players complain about that. They put up banners above the free-to-play window, and players complain about that. They put a comparison of f2p to p2p benefits at the login, and naturally, players complain. For all the fun and player-friendliness Jagex exudes throughout their game(s), at the end of the day, they''re still running a business, and businesses require revenue to operate. Memberships are Jagex's primary revenue and they have every right to advertise it. I know it's annoying - it gets on my nerves too, just as I also know trying to get customers at my job to sign up for Birthday Clubs, Rewards cards and Credit Cards is annoying to them, but it's one of the unfortunate things we all have to put up with in order to enjoy the better aspects of the products we use. I don't mean to sound like "Blah, cry me a river", because I do understand the annoyance, but at the same time, I kinda do want to say, "Deal with it; this minor annoyance is allowing you to play your game." I just wish there was a less harsh way I can say that...

Not sure if it was mentioned already, but has anyone else noticed that the Rune Guardian pet's dialogue was lifted from The Sphinx's "wisdoms" from the movie Mystery Men?

POLL: How do you earn most of your RuneScape GP?
dargonhuman replied to Cowman_133's topic in General Discussion
A little of both skilling and merchanting for me lately. I'll buy my daily limit of seaweed from Arhein in Catherby, turn it into soda ash, get 80 sand from Zanaris, turn them into uncharged orbs (after getting some Cosmics while still in Zanaris). I'll then turn that into uncharged orbs, which I'll charge at the Fire Obelisk, then buy my current limit of battlestaves from Zaff (16 until I get level 2 Varrock Armor) at 7000 gp. Turning them into fire battlestaves can net me between 9,000 and 9,300 gp on the Grand Exchange, depending on the current demand. Yea, getting the fire orbs is a bit of work initially, but that's why I took about a week to stockpile hundreds of the suckers. In the end, though, I used crafting, runecrafting, magic and merchanting to get 2,000-2,300 profit per staff. At 16 staves a day, that's 32,000-36,800 daily that I'm making on top of all the exp I already got for making the fire orbs. -
Didn't even know I could turn them off until after that post, lol. Now that I've turned it off, no cursor jumpiness.

Yes! I just got that when trying to talk to Martin the Master Gardener. I right-clicked (since we were both moving, it was easier to select Talk-To from the static menu as opposed to try and hit him with a left click), the mouse jigged suddenly and I pickpocketed him instead. Now he won't talk to me and I can't proceed with FairyTale Part 1 until he forgets. Very annoying...

Weekly Poll: What server do you mainly play on? And Why?
dargonhuman replied to n_odie's topic in General Discussion
I'm with MasterSmither, I have w117 and w160 as my two favorite worlds (117 because of Halo and 160 because if something is crowded on 117 it's usually empty on 160). The other options generally don't apply to me, though I'll usually go with game-selected if I'm at the library as those worlds generally have less lag on the library's over-taxed network. -
Don't know how common knowledge this is, but you can steal from stalls and get the goods even if you get caught by a guard. If you click on the stall a second time before the guard reaches you (after yelling at you to stop), you have just enough time to snag some booty. This even works if they're right next to you as there's a second or two lag between their dialogue and their first strike. Works on Knights, too. Dunno if it works outside of Ardougne (though I don't see why it wouldn't) as I'm currently thieving on the fur stall there, but it should speed up training time for thieves when using stalls to train.

Regarding "Random Events - Still Neglected" One major thing I would like to see removed from Randoms is the punishment for not finishing them "quickly" enough. For example, a while ago I was playing, got a Jail random and didn't have time to finish it, so I logged out, figuring I'd just have to chase those annoying balloon animals next time. No biggie, right? Wrong. The next time I was able to log in was a few days later, and I found that I didn't have to actually finish the event (nice!) but that nearly half of my skills had been reduced to 0! Why the hell do I have to wait over thirty minutes for my skills to recharge (or kill myself to get a quick-charge)?! Because circumstances worked against me and I wasn't able to finish one of Jagex's annoying, time-consuming and frankly laborious Random Events? I'm sorry, but bull****. First off, I don't like Randoms in the first place; if I need a "break" from training, I know where the log-out button is and I know how to do other skills. I do not need some Random telling me it's time for a break. Second, when I am training a skill, it's either for my enjoyment or to attain a particular goal, neither of which is helped when I'm whisked away to some lame Random event to help an obviously incompetent NPC accomplish some inane task that has nothing to do with what I want to do. There are some good Randoms; the Lost and Found random is nice and the non-kidnapping randoms are mostly okay, but I'm sick and tired of having my very limited (and therefore precious) play time wasted by inane tasks with lame rewards, and then being punished when I don't have time to finish those said inane tasks.

I don't currently have a lot of options for getting online right now, and when I finally can, I usually have more important things to do such as check my email or bank account. I do make the most of those times I can actually login to RS, though.

I can kinda hear what the topic starter heard, but the clip in the show isn't long enough to be definitive; there are a lot of songs out there that sound similar at points, but are completely different. With that in mind, there's nothing saying Jagex didn't do what Disney did and just modify a song to suit their needs. For all we know both companies could have used the same song or the Jagex composer may have subconsiously based the RS theme on the same song.

I voted "Hasn't changed my view" since I was already pretty darn excited about the new graphics to begin with. While I enjoyed learning more about the upcoming release, I'm about as excited as I can be.

Thus the Ignore list, setting chat filter to Off or Friends, etc. There are better ways to deal with the situation than the one the annoyed player chose, if they were mature enough. Apparently, that wasn't the case.

Why are you so afraid of revenants?
dargonhuman replied to Artificial_Doom_Flavor's topic in General Discussion
revenants can tb, freeze and poison in f2p, so it's not that safe. I've been personally hit with two out of three, and there's no reason for me to believe the third isn't there. I wouldn't say I'm exactly afraid of revenants myself; if I were, I wouldn't ever go out into the Wild again, but I am very wary of them, as they do hit high and the normal defences like Prayer and armor are little help. -
I've got too many times it saved me to tell, but one thing that did kind of annoy me was when I did a minigame like Pest Control or Castle Wars, forgot to take off my ROL and had it interrupt my game. For example, in PC it'd tell me I couldn't leave the island, which stopped me from fighting the critter I was well, fighting and cost me some points. But, despite those minor user errors, the ROL is still awesome. That's one of the main things I miss about p2p...
-
The updates have only affected me in positive ways (i.e. no longer worrying about pkers when mining in the Wild) or haven't affected me at all (i.e. I never did trade with players in the first place). So, yeah, I'm sticking around.

Dec 10 Update - Rally under a banner and join the fight!
dargonhuman replied to raven_gaurd0's topic in Rants
If this bugs you that much, just go play something else. It's not like RS is the only free online game anymore. Or even better, go get a life; if a change to a game is getting you this worked up, maybe you should re-evaluate your priorities. -
Dec 10 Update - Rally under a banner and join the fight!
dargonhuman replied to raven_gaurd0's topic in Rants
Big? A one-world riot is actually small compared to others in the past. The bank riot in '04 was held on like six worlds, and accomplished nothing except to annoy a few people and get themselves bantarded. If you really want to make an impact, riot on half the worlds. Good luck getting that many people behind you, though. -
Dec 10 Update - Rally under a banner and join the fight!
dargonhuman replied to raven_gaurd0's topic in Rants
Here's a suggestion: Don't bother. Never in the history of Runescape has any "riot" ever worked. All that happens is the "rioters" get banned, Jagex is still free to do what they want in their game and no one cares. Don't believe me? Then name one "riot" that actually succeeded. -
So.. What will you now? To F2P & P2P players
dargonhuman replied to Rarex's topic in General Discussion
There's plenty left to do in f2p; I seriously doubt that 90% of players are that focused on pking. If anything, 90% of players are focused on earning gp. As for me, as an f2per, I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing: skilling. Only now, it'll be so much easier without random pkers attacking me every few minutes, and those wuss revenants are hardly threatening. Or, if there are some that are, I haven't encountered them yet. But, at least they're still easier to identify as a threat than the lying pkers who said "Peace" then attacked as soon as my inventory was worth their effort. So yeah, this actually made my life as an f2per easier. -
Why does everyone hate................pures and pc....?
dargonhuman replied to chi13's topic in General Discussion
This thread has gotten me to thinking about pc and what can be done to force the "pc products" out into the rest of the world and get some learnin'. The recent nerfs aren't enough, sure, it's slower now, but there's still nothing to compel the powertrainers to actually leave the island; if anything, they've gotta stay longer to max out their stats. Some ideas I've got are to limit the amount of combat exp you can get through pc. This can either work like the Varrock training dummies (you can't use pc points to get a skill past a certain level, say 80-90) or like Tears of Guthix (you're only allowed to earn a certain number of pc points in a given time period, maybe 50-100 a day or thereabouts). The best solution would be a combination, a daily point cap and overall level cap. I think it's obvious that too many people are living on the void knight island and are missing out on vital parts of the game mechanics they'll need when they're maxed. -
Would Wilderness Team Capes be more beneficial if F2P?
dargonhuman replied to Prankster_King's topic in General Discussion
Really? Great! Where have they said this? And are they 'working on it' like they were 'working on' POH? ^_^ Retrospectively, this is a very funny statement. Also, since the general consensus is that this is such a no-brainer, why in all the unholy hell of Zamorak's poh (goh?) han't Jagex gotten their butts in gear and implemented it yet? They've been so gung-[garden tool] recently about making tweaks players have been demanding; you'd have thought this would be near the top (if not #1) of the list. -
Regarding the "declining" number of active players; that number is in no way an accurate measure of who's quitting or not. Right now, there are two major variables affecting it: mass bot bans and school*. When 10,000 or even 5,000 bots get banned a week, then that's going to lower the number of active players. Right now many schools (at least in the US) are either preparing for Christmas break or administering midterms/semester finals which means lots and lots of homework and studying for most students, which means less time for rs's core playerbase to login. Which, naturally, leads to dwindling numbers. The number of active players always goes down this time of year as real life intrudes on gametime. I'm guessing around Dec 10-15 there's going to be a massive resurgence that lasts till somewhere around the New Year. Even the "low" 20k-200k numbers are far higher than this time two or three years ago. When numbers start dropping to pre-rs2 days, then it's time to worry. *There's also the "Halo-effect" in which a number of highly-anticipated console games are being released soon (Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl, etc.) or were recently released (BioShock, Halo 3) that are consuming massive amounts of free-time as well, but those are unique anomalies to the point I was making that such activity fluxes are normal and even predictable. It's still worth foot-noting, though.
