everyone wants the one based around damage.

no one wants the one in the middile.

most people want the one based around defence.

(althoigh the damage and defence ones kinda swap a bit for chaotic)

Rapier was always better then cls when wearing a rune defender I'm pretty sure, so dragon defender just widens that gap. CLS is still only good for a couple very high defense situations in which you have to wear a shield rather than a defender.

When taking a look at the dragon defender's stats, you can see there are way more melee-based attack bonuses added rather than strength (only 1 here). This makes the rapier's inaccuracy less visable. The strength bonus doesn't really change that much. As the dragon defender has better stats than the rune one, speed becomes more important when using it which makes rapier better than chaotic longsword (speed on its own).

while this is more or less true, cls dps can indeed be higher in important scenarios (safe pvp melee) even with dragon defender.

This could change with the armor soaking update, if it's significant then faster and lower hits will be more effective than slow and large hits. Either way you'll get more uses out of rapier in general even if it's not the best in safe pvp, if that's your priority then get cmaul.

Ofc I pick rapier.

 

Faster weapons will own even more with the defence update, that's obvious. But we don't know if monsters will get soak... Probably and hopefully no.

 

Chaotic rapier is also good at hit an running dragons.

Just use pray, you say?

What about frostdrags? U can pray Mage and drink anti.. While taking no dmg and still attacking with full speed.

 

Where as with longsword, u can't.

the important value is ~20%; above 20% soak, rapier is almost definitively better than CLS; below 20%, CLS is slightly better
