Jiblix and Ken Genosis Demodded Over Speaking Out

Featured Replies

Mod edit: removed quote of a bad post.

I appreciate the insult to my intelligence.... very constructive thought there. But honestly, I still think they should have did what they did, although perhaps a bit more secretly as yes, there was a lot of publicity.

I guarantee the video would have gotten as popular as it is now if Jagex hadn't done anything, yes it would have taken weeks instead of days, but it would have happened. I'm guessing Jagex knew this and figured it would be more of a victory for them if they got rid of the guy.

It was mentioned earlier, but it's worth mentioning again:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect

Covering up or hiding some piece of information has the unintended side effect of making that information more public.

The debate about whether or not it was right to demod him will rage on for a few weeks, but I can't say that the video would have gained nearly as much momentum or attention as it would have, if they had simply left him alone. If you're still hellbent on punishing the guy, you'd do it away from public eyes, in confidential areas; that way, if word did get out he was on a tight rope with the JMods, it'd have a much lesser effect, and Jagex would have a much stronger case to demod someone - namely for leaking information.

I can't say the video would have been nearly as popular had Jagex not flailed their arms and got their crown-removing hammers out.

It's official. Jagex has officially admitted to RWTing.

The clock is ticking, and your time is running out, mortals.

I think it's pretty obvious that there's a difference between Jagex trading RuneScape membership for real money (which they HAVE to do in order to have a P2P version of the game) and someone buying RuneScape gold with cash.

Someone needs a publicist because there are about a million better ways he could have made that statement.

Now he just sounds like Nixon: "I am saying that when the president does it, it's not illegal."

He could have said Jagex provides opportunities through RWT (of money for membership) and does not supply gold or items to the player for that money. (But yes there is the Katana we know)

Posts like these often make me wonder if they believe every player is seriously lacking intelligence, or just make it a sport to be missing the point every single time.

They've at least taken the little baby step to admitting to the type of business practice.

One little baby step at a time...maybe the next baby step will be finished before I turn 25.

It would be interesting if a 'charitable donation' to Jagex actually turned out subsequently to be RWT cash. It would never happen because of the legal implications, but just to be facetious about the 'without negatively impacting on Runescape and use the revenue generated to make Runescape better' line.

I might be a little late now, but I still don't get the whole Jiblix worshipping thing. It's not like he was being paid to be a forum mod, so it's not like he gave up everything he had to stand up to jagex and disagree with them. There are plenty people out there disagreeing with Jagex and no one knows about them, someone wanna fill me in on why Jiblix is a god now?

You answered your own question. When Jagex tried to censor Jiblix it brought him into the spotlight. Because of that, he is more well known than other people who disagree with Jagex in a similar way.

Sad how some moderators speak as if Runescape forum is their real life job.

I think this deserves a better reply than the one Moe gave.

You see, that was my problem at the forums here. Or rather, I had hoped that somehow, in some odd way, moderating here might be a step back to employment. An Admin at the time had said he'd gladly give me a referral.

Might as well come clean about it, although I'm sure it's convenient since precious few might even remember. It does look delusional when I look back on it now, but... at the time, I was pretty desperate. Ask any parent struggling away living on disability if they'd like a shot at going back to work-- I think quite a few would tell you they'd jump hard at that.

No matter how much I was subtly encouraged to quit, I dug my heels in harder and took more and more thankless tasks. I wasn't in it for the attention, no no. I really did want to quietly do my job, but I was hoping that it would somehow be meaningful for real life stuff.

The unkindest blow of all was when a friend told me I'd been backstabbed hard when my moderatorship was terminated. I considered some of the remaining Admins friends, but to be told they'd basically all dropped their support-- that was hard to take. I have to credit Silverion for giving me a brutally honest answer, but of course he will never know me. I did get on with my real life and went on to better things, but, trust has NEVER been rebuilt and I'm not really interested in talking to any of them anymore. I came back around because now and then I think I might have something worthwhile to say about the Times articles, but...

...oh, how the comparisons of this to Tip.It make me laugh. It makes me laugh to think of it, really, when I knew behind the scenes here some of the people with the most responsibility, in the past, said and did things I think are just plain ugly. Honestly though, in my other experiences, I know it happens at all kinds of forums and online communities that have nothing to do with Runescape or even gaming.

I laugh at the claims of innocence here. I'm sorry, from 1994-2011 I've seen plenty of Internet users roll in crap and claim they were smelling like roses. Or they say they smelled like roses all along but some other idiot chimpanzee flung some poo at them.

I laugh when I see responses on some of the other threads asking about the story about Andrew threatening a lawsuit here. Do you really want me to open that can of worms? There's quite a bit I didn't include but suffice it to say there was another case of "I don't smell like poo, I smell like roses". Not to mention someone also said "I'll fix everything"... people, that person didn't quit Tip.It-- that person got FIRED. Hmmm, smelled like poo, it did. And that's about all I'll say. I mean, it's really amusing to make that analogy because there has been an attitude of "The poo at Tip.It doesn't stink."

It did. And I'll betcha it still does. And so I also laugh at claims that fmod/pmod poo doesn't stink, either. Or just plain generic player poo. I laugh because there are big claims of "Jagex's poo stinks" and I can't find any trace but maybe a little where someone says, "Oh gee, but my poo stinks, too."

I just told ya'll how bad my poo stinks... anyone else got the guts to own up?

Using my super duper powers of deduction and common sense, I can conclude the following :-

1. Bots are a problem

2. Jagex isn't stupid and is working on some *big* answer to bots.

3. This is taking significant time / resources.

4. Jagex would like to have some players left when they are done.

So relax and be patient. Have some perspective. Imagine it from their perspective - would you want one of your volunteer mods bashing your game while you're doing everything you can to fix it?

^and to the post above makes a important point I think (along with a slight poo obsession) ; Any organisation that from the outside looks to be some singular monolithic entity seldom is.

Players waited three years. I think that's more than enough damn time.

They're likely "doing nothing" about it. Bots are volunteers as paying customers in the same or probably greater amounts than legitimate players. Jagex is COMPLETELY aware that bots are a problem to players but aren't banning them because eliminating bots will significantly lower their income. Bots compromise a large percentage of paying customers so it would make sense for them to let them be.

So in reality, it's up to Jagex if they want to take care of the bots and help out legit customers, or let the bots remain as customers so they won't lower their income. Players can only do so much to have any say because all we can do is cancel subscription and lower their income by what, 5 dollars a month? Bots on the other hand, aren't as "variety" as players are and may cancel subscription in greater amounts because a majority of bots are under the same entity.

The same can be said for free to play. Bots might train their stats in free to play to be able to use it at members to save extra time and hassle on membership.

A bot training to 60 wcing might start out free to play for a couple of days then convert to members to be able to cut yews at more locations.

The only solution I can think of is when bots get so out of hand that customers leave Runescape until bots are forced out of business due to lack of players wanting gold, which might lower the need of gold farming. After that, it's up to Jagex to decide if they want actual players back.

I think they are working on some projects against bots, but things aren't going as planned and it takes more time. It could even be that they are changing from Java to a safer platform (I heard C+ was safer but I know nothing of those kind of languages), which would be awesome if it works (and a massive amount of work).

Sadly, I have also been to the golden joysticks site and seen runescape in "what people're voting."

I seriously don't know who is still voting for them...esp since the category is F2P game.

Bot owners? RWTers? Die hard loyalists who have max everything? People who are still misinformed (unless you block chat at all times this isn't too likely now..)? Or {insert conspiracy music}...Jagex paid off the Golden Joysticks peeps?...

I would really want to know who is actually doing all the "voting" here.

As I said in my last post, you can vote multiple times on the same game. If you ask me, it's probably Jagex who's tampering with votes since they seem to be the only

company desperate to win that award.

LOL very true.

RS did deserve to be recognized by real gaming communities at some point - esp. 2005-2006 when the game was so dominant in the MMO market. The only 'award' who decided to give Jagex anything was the little-known golden joysticks thing - whose website crashed when Jagex 1st asked for fan support - and fans gladly gave their support.

But NOT THIS YEAR - the game has really gone under to cheating - they might as well just burn their rules and openly allow botting and RWT. This is the one year where RS doesn't deserve to be recognized - not even by the golden joysticks, and ESPECIALLY not for the best free MMO.

Maybe Jagex come up with some update that completely destroys bots. Or more likely seriously harms them. Let's hope so anyway <_< What bugs me is that people rant and rave about these stupid Jagex-doesn't-care-and-makes-money-from-bots. From all the evidence out there, they are good honest nerds (that occasionally do something dim) and I trust they are doing their best to fix my game :)

If it is, someone should make a macro that votes against Jagex continuously. What's the worst they can do? Report us for botting?
