The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion

Recommended Posts

Still think it's stupid that those who can only play the beta on the weekend have no way of providing any feedback on the RSOF.

Seriously? so if I spot a bug/want to provide feedback during my unfairly allocated limited access to the Beta I can't post it onto the RSOF...way to treat your long term members Jagex..

You can report the bug in game.

Can't provide feedback using in-game report function though, way to value our opinions Jagex :/

@Cheat that's why they have forum mods & JMods

Runescapes beauty has always been in its simplicity. Taking it away from that is just going to lose players to other mmos that do complex better than runescape is even capable of. (Swtor and wow being the most obvious examples)

So people are going to stop playing RuneScape because it's not "simple" anymore, and instead going to another game which isn't "simple" either?

wat

PvP seems to be all about who can click what at the right time.

Nothing new here, then.

@Pingo I think Tieszen's point was that RS are better off sticking with their simplistic USP and doing that well after all its what attracts many people further to that his point is that if you want to play a complex combat system there are much better ones out there than the one offered in the EoC and therefore it could be expected that people would simply play those games instead as there would be no reason to play RS anymore.

If runescape becomes more complex they will lose players to games that do complex gameplay better. Those who want simplicity will just quit altogether. However that jmod post few up looks very promising that they won't take the game too far in that direction.

You very clearly said "will lost players to other mmos which do it better", without mentioning those who will quit altogether.

So... judging by your post, I assume I read correctly.

Went to Kree'arra using Magic. It was way too easy. I didn't have to use Deflect Ranged, even though I was wearing robes. I was just Soul Splitting any lost health back. Kills took around 82 seconds each. Was without a steel titan. K'ril kills took around 60 seconds each, with a steel titan and mage.

Why would someone who likes simplicity, quit Runescape for a game that does not-simplistic things better than Runescape's not simplistic thing? Just becausesome random other game 'does complex gameplay better' doesn't mean I'm going to quit to play that game. I like the change and think it needs fine-tuning. That's what the beta is for after all.

Runescape doesn't evolve around combat either like many MMo's do. There are tons of skillers who do combat as second priority or just don't do it at all. People scream doom about everything these days.

Not tried the beta, but wondering if everything is multi you should be able to cannon all tasks, is this correct? Obviously not areas where cannon is not allowed, but black demons in taverly, dark beast in temple, etc.

I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.

You assumed incorrectly. If you really feel the need to argue then pm me. This isn't helping the discussion.

Just a warning: Armadyl gloves do NOT protect you from Armadyl creatures in the God Wars Dungeon. Seems like Jagex missed it.

Did you report it as a bug so they'd know?

You were always able to cannon black demons and dark beasts, so I'd assume it hasn't changed. Steel titan works for black demons, as does ice barrage, I tested those :P. The kph with barrage and titan is pretty insane, and wasn't even particularly quick at managing abilities.

It seems equilibrium doesn't always work with every ability at the moment, as I hit a 1 with asphyxiate, but I hit crits in the 270 range and 1100 range as well which would be roughly consistent with ~1380 max without overloads (1680 max confirmed with overloads iirc).

All gwd bosses are soul split tankable at the moment, due to , the % based hits capping at 5k, if you use Unload, Frenzy (Or is it flurry?) then the kill's pretty much yours, AND you healed 3-4k lp. The bleed effects ar also amazingly OP, as are Steel titans, as their damage is soul splitted (Unless that got fixed)

Managed 41 kills in a Cwars game with range and steel titan, way too easy to stunlock and own people in mass groups.

this update gives skillers most advantage when they can bump hp, pray, summ up to 99 to get access to new capes, new tasks, new quests etc.

i like more new combat what comes to low level...i notice that in castle wars when my 10hp stayed alive well while got hits by level 150+s..thanks to high health provided by druidic set. normally i would been gotten 1 hit by most level 100+

In CW i noticed also that playing pvp combat is alot of playing piano with my keyboard most of time i just hitting number keys to strike again when abilities has cooled down...too busy to look icons itself while trying to keep eye on health in crowd.

Spot the discrepancies.

Honestly I give up trying to get any useful information out of the stupid equipment interface, the % chance values all seem to be incorrect in one way or another.

What discrepancies?

What do the percents mean? Amount of damage reduction? Chance to get hit?

Anyhow, try putting on one piece of armor at a time and see what happens.

The percents are supposed to be chances of defending against an offence 1000 attack of that combat type.

It's just really weird that despite all the pieces of armour being classed as "Melee", they seem to contribute different amounts of their armour value to the total effective defence, which is reflected in the percents.

Either that or there's something wrong with the calculator, which also claimed I had a 100% hit-chance against White Knights (actually closer to 60% on testing).

I've come to the conclusion that the equip screen just doesn't work. A few days ago if you had a crit bonus above 4% or so, equipping a weapon would lower it.

Still happens with Ranged crit as far as I know, had a ranging amulet and archer ring (i) for 7.9% crit, put on Zaryte bow and had none :(

is druidic really so powerful for level 4 skillers?

i tested that full bronze without shield give 136 armor and 140 health while full druidic give 1600 armor and 3244 health.....at level 4 its great help for questing and such...god robes didnt seem to give anything so they not much worth to use.

though price difference between those is alot too but still...

Graardor looks like a giant now moreso that some kind of ogre-like breed. I hope they make some greater discrepancies between ourges and ogres because it looks rather grey in terms of racial differences. Also where did you find those pictures?

Giants have much more human-like proportions, ogres are much rounder/fatter and with shorter legs, ourgs are (based on the one model we have, e.g. Graardor) more like ogres but with flat stomachs.

So glad they've acknowledged this. It's pretty much my only major gripe with it so far.
