By the way guys.

Andrew Gower's first priority in runescript at the moment is making a client that can beat the socks off of Swift. What takes it so long is that he has to code it in Runescript and give it full functionality ingame.

Have patience, and Jagex will have a good client. It won't have worldswitchers or IRC, but clan chat and calculators are in the works.

the two most important aspects of clan life on runescape, and that clan chat thing will be awfull.

Almost every clan I have ever seen uses Teamspeak for clan actions. If you are just talking about personal conversation, then use mIRC for crying out loud. People act like that extra two clicks is going to end the world.

And as for worldswitching: It should only take two clicks as well. Well, three if you prefer to log out. Then on "game worlds" right above the game screen! Finally, on the world you want to go to.

Swift's worldswitchers still give you the unfair advantage of being able to get into a full world bypassing the world screen. That's why it should be illegal.

Bandwidth is such a negligable cost these days, I got no idea why they are complaining about that.

According to my sources, Jagex pays about 50,000 US$ per DAY on bandwidth. About 50% of that is being wasted due to constant pings. How would you like it if a silly little banner was costing you 25 grand a day.

The "dynamic sig" issue is effectively the same as the "hotlinking images" problem - what makes it bad, is that every time an uncached access is made, the lookup willl be done - in many cases, where the result isn't actually cared about anyway. If this is not complied with voluntarily, anti-leech measures would make things awkward for all "outside" use of stats.

So a "Jagex legal" stat sig (or progress bar) would need to be updated only on request, or perhaps they would also accept auto-update at intervals not shorter than a day.

Bet tip.it are glad they didn't do a stat sig!

Honestly, I've totally hopped over the fence as opposed to how I was the last time when they Banned SS.

Now I see why Jagex has done this, and believe it was the right thing to do. I am fine with it, I will use Screenprint 32 and the Runescape client to take screenshots now, Honestly, that's the MAIN part that I liked about SS. Oh well. Times have changed.

Glad to hear it Troj.

Basically, everyone needs to read Andrew's post on the first page of this thread, in which he explains himself.

You guys go on and on about "I pay money, Jagex owes me this!" but by using worldswitchers that don't follow the correct rules, or dynamic signatures, you are costing Andrew a lot more than 5 dollars a month. Heck, these things are costing Andrew in a month perhaps 5 years of a good job's salary.

I used ss only for the hiscores, i changed worlds either by clicking the fast button or just go the real world switching page.

And why does jagex care about the adds so much? i've seen about 20 working adds during my 5,5 years in rs. all i ever see is a black square and a question mark next to it. So hooray.

is both.

Because by blocking the ads, you are costing them money.

there soon gonna realise theyve messed up, people are going to stop playing and their profit is going to go down.

at the end of the day we pay for the game to exist, surely we should get to chose how we play and what we use to play it. i personally never used an autoer but regularly used ss. im at college doing a diploma in business and ive learnt alot and from what i know jagex are doing a real bad job of keeping their customers happy and giving us a good service...

actually blocking the adds doesnt affect rune... the company will pay for the advertisement, but we chose to block it, just shows the adds dont work, if the adds still want to pay they still can, but by blocking the add your only choseing to ignore advertisement

For someone at college, you sure do type like a 12 year old to me. You are not going to get a diploma if you can't pass English.

By paying your 5 bucks a month, you are not a stockholder in Jagex. You are simply paying for services rendered. They owe you nothing. They actually make FAR more money from ad revenue than from subscriptions. And a few hundred (ok, let's make it extreme...few thousand) people quitting is hardly going to make a dent in their revenue. Especially now that they are banning dynamic signatures and getting millions back in lost revenue.

PS: I know business management skills, too!

looks like jagex becoming less user friendly company. It will only hurt them in long run ;)

Edit: @Trixtar, i do NOT want that Jagex will tell me how to play. next thing you know it will implement auto log-off after hour of constant playing. Sorry but thats not their business if i use direct or indirect access to their worlds or their pages.

I had to laugh at this statement... Jagex OWNS the game and people suddenly think we have a democracy going. We don't! You either do it their way or play another game! That's the entire reason for RULES.

It is exactly like a Democracy. We vote for Jagex and for Runescape when we decide to pay for service. We vote no when we either remove our membership or never pay at all. What would Jagex do if everyone who usues SS removes their membership for two months. They very quickly would be fixing this issue.

*Ahem*

Those companies would not invest in advertising on Jagex's site if no one was playing their game to see said advertisements.

:P

In the end, you're right though, not enough people will quit to make a difference.

I think it's funny how you complain about blocking advertisements. You are screwing Jagex out of money by blocking those. Hell, you should be banned for using a program that does that.
I Agree with you. but banning stat sigs? whats up with that?....

To be honest, they steal bandwidth by making constant pings against the highscores server. I think it's fair. Calculators are actually legal from the above rules, because they only ping the server once. Dynamic stat signatures are constantly contacting the highscores servers.

Not all the stat sigs ping the HS constantly. Some (most) are updated daily...

Yep. All this talk of "alienating the fan base" is pretty laughable, and it happens every time Jagex makes a change that inconveniences a vocal minority of the RS population.

Weekend population of RS is up over 200K now, which means that even if we're generous and assume that 5000 players stalk off in a hissy fit over the perceived "right" to steal bandwidth from Jagex, we're talking about 2-3% at most. Who will be very quickly replaced by the next advertising blitz on Miniclip or other similar sites.

I've been here (playing RS) four years -- the complaining never stops. The walkouts over the complaining never stop.

And yet, Jagex and Runescape's growth never stops.

Barihawk, how do you know all those numbers? Is Andrew your personal friend or something?

OT: Eventhough I dislike I have to get rid of my stats sig, I can totally understand their points. Those clients do/did give advantages to get in high worlds and the whole ping situation seems reasonable to me too.
