15-Mar-10 Lumbridge Catacombs & The Blood Pact
You can't expect everything to be super awesome and game changing every week. There are still plenty of awesome updates coming including bloom, FTPIII, graphical rework of fairy city, new bosses.....just hold your horses. You can't just pump out superpowered updates every week otherwise you're going to end up having wepons that hit 999999 and quests that give 100M exp within the year. Remember, Jagex is going at a nice pace to extend the life of the game as long as they can. As soon as they start adding 'endgame' updates, that marks the begining of the end (regardless of what people say, Runescape didnt die in 07 etc, its just in a static period in regards to players). While I agree with people that there are plenty of novice quests, this is one of the few that are truly for the newbs. Most novice quests require something like 30 attack or something like that. This one, players can start right off tutorial island and learn some cool facts about the combat triange. I've seen many people (not just newbs) maging dragons or something like that just because they didn't realise that dhide (eventual range armour) is strong vs mage. Anything that gives players more information on the inner workins of the game is cool by me.

Wow, 2 in a row? Jagex is really focusing on newbs. In fact this is the first newb level quest in years. The last 6 quests have been like this: Novice (todays) Novice Grandmaster Master Master Master

It's been YEARS since newbs straight off tutorial island have had an update (that I can remember). It's nice that jagex is giving an absolute beginer quest. Most of the ones F2P had required some sort of combat level or knowledge to complete (yes, very minimal req, but still there). Like it or not, MMG has realized that his method of passively getting members and players was lowering the numbers of both. While Idison took a very agressive approach, MMG is at least doing it ways like Jagex Big Ticket and this new quest. Perhaps the 300qp helm will be part of a clothing set that Jagex is going to make for questers and song gatherers. Quest cape + helm, then eventually a music shirt and pants/skirt.

I want a partyhat!
Most junk that people use in such massive ammounts are items from crashing manipulations. If you manipulate an item from say 1k to 2k, you have essentially doubled the trade value but the 'true' GE value is still 1k. It's hard to get over 100M worth of real junk just from playing the game normally (unless you GWD so much you get excessive addyp++ arrows). Hooks have a street price of somehting like 80-100M because it takes a lot of time to get enough agility tickets to buy it. And even with enough tickets, most people just take the exp rather then the hook because there is just so much exp it doesn't seem worth it. As for getting the phat, I would say just make money (nat crafting, etc). Your eggs and santa will rise as you make GP so you will lower the gap between your bank and a phat. I would suggest you go for a yellow because even then you are overpaying but remaining in the lower GE valued phats. I just saw a thread on the RSOF where someone was paying yellow + 2 hooks for 2 eggs so that's about what you could get. Currently yellow is 326M in the GE. 2 eggs + 20M GP = 183M If you add the santa (I know you want to keep it, but selling it saves like a month of getting GP) you have 240M That means you need to come up with 86M of GE price to balance the trade. When easters rise you are gaining (4.5M x 2 eggs) 9M per rise. This happens once every 5-7 days. So we can say that you bank increases at 1.5M per day. (I am assuming santas are stable). When yellows rise they go up 3.2M per rise. With 6 rises in 30 days we can say that yellows are rising 640k per day. This means that you are closing the gap in GE price on a yellow by 860k per day. At this rate it will take 100 days for your Eggs+GP+santa to be equil to a yellow phat (assuming no crashes and rising says at the same days between). I'm assuming your TIF name is the same as your RSN. You have 44 rc so that's good for nats. If you have charms you may want to get your summoning up to 57 to use spirit graahk for the teleport. I don't know exact rates but you should be able to make some decent money crafting nature rules. Another method would be cannoning green dragons. Again, I don't know exact figures but it's pretty good. If you really want to take risks, you could try to GWD and snag some hilts or armours. With these methods, 430k/hour is realistic (random number to suit math). So if you play 2 hours per day, you would be able to half the time to catch yellow phat making it 50 days. If you get lucky with lots of egg rises and few yellow rises, and santas being manipulated again, you could get that yellow within a month. That's a best case senerio with low risk money making and 2-3h per day.

What clan chat to use for familiarisation?
I seem to remember one called "Obelisk Chat" that I used once. It worked decent I suppose, but there were too many leechers and not enough people actually going from world to world hopping. I ended up being the person to find the open world (just happened to be W99). I haven't been there in a few weeks but I think it should still be open.

Tip.it Times 14 March 2010
As a player mod for nearly 4 years I've been faced by every single one of the questions in the second article. It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant some people are in regards to the rules, regulations, and how to go about reporting etc. It also amazes me when players don't know anything about player moderators or what we do. I have actually thought about submiting an article to The Times exactly like this, but [quickchat]My speling level is 13.[/quickchat].

Dahmaroc?
Perhaps when you finish the replica in your house you realize that you've been putting it together wrong and that's causing some sort of magical overload causing the explosions. So then you do it a 31st time except put him together right and he comes to life and gives you 100M free exp and a phat set.

12-Mar-2010 - Bonus XP Weekend!
I'm not usually the Zezima stalker type, but all this talk of his return propted me to look at his HS to see if he was really back. Think Jagex is trying to tell us something?

Cheating... Or is it...?
I'm a bit confused. So what you're saying is that by pressing 2 the mouse moves down one herb and then pressing 5 it cleans the herb and continue until the end of the row where you press 6 to hop to another row? (May have numbers wrong but the question remains). The only issue I have with this, if its the case, is that you're using a mouse to do mousekeys which replaces using a mouse....it seems too complicated to just be a simple harware conversion. I know, it's technicly not a macro, but just from the sounds of things it's like a bunch of minimacros assigned to each button by the mouse. Be that as it may, I'm starting to think this isn't 'against the rules' because of the one input - one output, it's just what your input is compared to your output that gives the the odd feeling. To get rid of this kind of 'its so rediculasly fast that there's no way it should be legal' situation I think Jagex needs to put a time limit on cleaning herbs. If they put, say, a .075 second delay between herbs you can clean, you would still be able to click as fast as you want, but the game would slow you down to at least a 'human pace'. It would just queue up the herbs like what happens if you click alch too soon. The .075s may actually be a little too short because it comes out to 2.1s. So by taking .9s to click, that gives the user 1.2s to hover the mouse over the banker just in time thus not really slowing him down. If it was set to .1s between cleanings, that's still 2.8s which is plenty fast enough. And that extra little amount of time would be (hopefully) enough to put the speed in check. By taking 2.8s to clean a batch rather then .9, you can still ID 6000 herbs per hour or fletch 2300 bolts per minute. I'm pretty sure that is a nice high yet human figure.

12-Mar-2010 - Bonus XP Weekend!
To the people complaining about the .15x 'lost'. I look at it this way. Your boss says that he'll give you a nice $100 bonus just because he appreciates you, but when you get your pay cheque, it only has $85 extra on it. Sure, you're getting 15% less than what your boss said he'd give you, but you're getting free money so just shut up and accept it. I was woken up early by some particularily loud people in my dorm so I got to Runescape early. Wasn't my plan, but meh. I did my tree run, herblore, and summoning to 70 in all. Now I'm just going to jump over some spiky pits until 70. If I end up getting 70 before the weekend is over, I'll go to hunter. Also, it's probably just a coincidence, but I've been seeing far more revs at the wildy course today then normal. One point there were 3 orks on the course at once.

Dahmaroc?
He wasn't? There were no methods to create runes in the 2nd age, only what was given by Guthix, which is why there is a limited supply. then why is there a runecrafting skill stone... Maybe perhaps he just embodies all that is noncombat related? From what I gather, he was turned to stone and shattered and the peices were thrown all over Gielinor. Now we are starting to find them durring our skilling tasks. It's not that he was split into specific skill parts, rather that we stumble upon different parts durring different skills. It doesn't really make physical sense, but then again, does a re-exploding statue that used to be a human make sense?

Buying a White Partyhat - How should I go about it?
Yeah, like Bladewing said, not many people are willing to trade white phats for santas / masks in times of a buyout. But you can find some people willing to part with purples or eggs. So what you could do with the GP you have now, is invest in lower rares (santas and h'weens) and hope for a buyout. Then when the buyout hits, trade the lower rares up for an egg or Purple. Of course, there is always a risk that the lower rares will crash. Getting a partyhat usually takes certain steps rising items (bought out items) -> lower 'high prices rares' (egg / purple) -> medium priced rares (pump / disk / yellow / green) -> higher rares (red / white) -> godly rares (blue / wine / cracker) It is possible to jump over some steps here and there, but it's hard and not often done. I'm not sure about how good it is, but I've heard that getting pirate hooks from Brimhaven Arena is a good way to make 'potential' money. Hooks range arround the 80M mark and from what I hear, take 15-20 hours to get. So this is a good way to start if you like agility but don't care about the massive exp you're missing out on. Or you can try to snipe any of these items off the GE and hope to gether enough to build up a sizable collection. Either way, good luck.

Buying a White Partyhat - How should I go about it?
1. What is the current status of the White Partyhat (i.e. street price, availablility, etc...)? Completely bought out. It is the second most valuable party hat. Right now on the RSOF there is a thread and the current top offer is 2 disks and 1 eater for the hat. So far as I know, a disk is 1.5-1.75 eggs worth. So you're looking at paying 4-4.5 'eggs' worth for one. With a street price hovering arround 300m per egg, you're looking at 1.2-1.3B 'street price' for a white. 2. Is it necessary for me to buy into "Junk" or other Rares in order to purchase one? If so, which? Being so valuable, no one will have enough junk to boost their side of the deal to over 1B. So while you may have to handle some junk in working up to getting your phat, I don't think you'll get much in the final trade. That being said, people VERY rarely accept cash for anything higher then eggs anymore. So you will need to enter the rares market for sure. 3. Where should I go to have the greatest probability of finding someone willing to sell (GE, RSOF, other Forums, etc...)? You could try sniping one off the GE, but it takes great patience and luck. Someone on tif sniped one a month or two ago and from what I remember, he got his offer in under 15 seconds aafter the price updated. So while it's a good way to save yourself a lot og GP and hastle getting rares, it's not a reliable way to get one. The RSOF or W2 would be the only places I would suspect to find someone selling a white. Simply too rare to be anywhere else. If you are looking for market updates and insight into the rares market, you could try the 3rd Age / Phat / Rares discussion. It gets a little cluttered with other market discussions, but there's a lot of good discussion in there.

Cheating... Or is it...?
The part of the rule that pertains to this is: Even though the mouse is hardware, there has to be some sort of program that you use to assign certain actions to the buttons. And that's that part that I see is agaisnt the rules. Multiple funtions for 1 click.
-
Cheating... Or is it...?
Okay, so I read the last couple posts and appearantly I'm missing something. Is the player physicly clicking the mouse every time a herb gets cleaned? I know that he is moving the mouse, but does he initiate the click? Or how does it work? And Pulli, I'm not trying to sound like that. What I'm trying to say is that Jagex impliments 'blanket rules' that cover a large number of things withing one simply written rule and people are getting too techical. If Jagex had to lay out every sub-rule we would have hundreds upon hundreds of rules. When I read Jagex's anti-macro rule I see this as a violation of it.
-
Cheating... Or is it...?
Why would Jagex refer to a paradigm that most of its player base wouldn't understand? Exactly, I have no idea what Pulli said. But what I take From the J Mod's post is that because it takes one click to clean a herb, a person much make one click to clean every herb. I don't care about your black boxes and paradigms. All I see is using a program to convert one input to 28 outputs.
-
Cheating... Or is it...?
Indeed, it is not the assigning buttons on the mouse to keys, it is having those keys able to make multiple inputs for one click of the button. As he says, one input, one action. I'm waiting for my apology now. Like I said, its not obvious. It's obvious. One input, one output. This mouse clearly has multiple outputs for one input. there is no way you can drop a full inventory in .9s like the video claims by any legal means. Dropping 25 items in 1 second would be .02s per click. Sorry, but that's not humanly possible with any sort of accuracy. So it is obvious where this fits within , sorry, outside of the rules. But Jagex (like always) seems to be lagging behind the players with their rules. jagex tried to make 'blanket rules' that take care of a wide variety of actions but players often see this unspecification as an invitation to do things clearly encased in the 'blanket statement' but since it's not specified they claim ignorance.

Cheating... Or is it...?
So I can write a quick script that will click 28 positions in the inventory for me and assign it to the F1 key? Its legal because im pressing F1 right? While im at it, I might aswell make a script that pressed deposit all and withdraw 28 herbs for the F2 key, thats legal too right because im pressing F2? This. So while using hot keys is legal, this mouse assigns a macro to the mousekey. And that's the part that's agaisnt the rules. If not, then I could claim that this here macro isn't agaisnt the rules because I have to press play to start it. It doesn't work like that. Any click (or type) your computer sends to the server MUST be controlled and sent by you, not a macro program, and not your fancy pants mouse. It is obvious to the people who know the rules and are willing to take a second, step back, and think about it. You are using a third party PROGRAM to click for you. That is almost the definition of macroing....

10-Mar-2010 - Big Ticket Prize Draw
I hope that the winner is at least someone who is like 17+ and has at least some sence of maturity. If someone from the RSOF rants section gets selected I'm going to cry. Just the fact that people are auto entered pushes the odds of winning much lower. If you had to go out and fill a form or something on the website, that would have cut the number down by like 75%. All I can say is I hope it's me! Thinking about it, this could be a clever way for Jagex to get more memberships. It takes, what? like 1000 new members to fully make up the cost of sending 1 person on the trip? Surely people would rather choose to buy a month of members then spend the same ammount sending a post-card half way across the globe. Oh well, This makes Jagex money which leads to more development dollars so I'm fine with it.

Latest RuneScape Poll - Bonus XP Weekend
Are you excited about the Bonus XP Weekend? Not really. I think it's not a good addition to the game. Not just because it 'devalues exp'. But also because it messes arround with the markets that were just starting to settle down. That being said, there is nothing I can do to stop it so I might as well use it to complete some goals. Which skill do you plan to focus on for the Bonus XP Weekend? Farm to 70 Summon to 70 Herb to 70 Then agility for the rest (or until 70) (Guess you can tell my goal is 70+ in all skills and P2P runs out soon) How will you be preparing for the Bonus XP Weekend? Farm - Have trees planted already Summon - All charms and seconds gathered Herb - Already had the unf pots made and was making into completed pots when they announced the weekend so I have everything ready to go. Agility - Taking practice runs at the wildy course because I've never been there before.

Tip.it Times March 7 2010
It's not that simple. The rules state that you can not report someone for 'game related spam'. So if I say "b sale" 50 times per minute, you are not 'allowed' to report me. As for them being acceptable, The rule is not having ANY third party software that directly acts on the game. I would say that a program that types for you works on the game. Why would it be acceptable that someone is too lazy to play the game them selves to choose to cheat?

Old names now available 4-3-2010
Its nice to see so many unique names getting put back into the game. If i hadn't been Or Trade Me for all these years, I might change. But I'm attatched to my name, I like it. Doubt I'll ever change it. Too bad half the people I talk to don't think it's my original name  I'm thinking this will cause some major confusion on my friends list, but meh, I can deal with it. TIF should make an option under RSN and RSN2 called "Original RSN" just to help name noobs like me. Oh, and Newb (AKA Carl Dublin), what's your 'mexican cousin' going to do now that you've changed names? And who was Carlos Dublin anyway? I never found out.

p pots dumped already?
Coincidently, I just sold 200 P pots (4) at min arround half an hour ago.... PPots are fairly decent exp/gp (not the best, but good enough). So people like me who were training herby stopped making pots all together. I was 75% done making ppots from 50-70 when they announced the exp weekend and figured I would save enough GP to make the wait worth it so I stopped making pots all together. Smart merchers knew this would happen, and all went after pots. Less coming in = rise People stocking up for exp weekend for chinning = rise Rising herb prices across the board = rise All these things came together to make it rise. It wasn't a 'clan' per se, but slightly higher demand coupled with slightly lower incoming made it rise. Then merchers sent it over the top. What goes up, must come down. As it goes higher, more and more people 'cash out' and sell them in order to get the profit without risking an extra few days with the chance it would crash. That's what I did, I sold my 50M worth of PPots that I had made for herby 2 days ago. Cut the GP/EXP from something like 22 to like 10(?). So yeah, people dumped their ppots. I don't expect them to fall too low but if you have pots you want to sell, hold them until they rebound slightly before the weekend. Then make sure you sell early in the rise because as soon as the exp weekend hits, there will be an overload of potions in the GE and prices will fall.

Shattered Heart Discussion
Taken from the KB. It seems to point towards the rewards getting larger every time you complete the set of 30 stones.
