06-Oct-2010 - The Void Stares Back

The never misses part caught my interest. If that is indeed true, it will be a godly spec weapon for tds, bandos, sara, and pvp. Think about it, a weapon that automatically hits between 250 and 750 always, that is great for pvp. Claws still win on low defense though.

You've got me thinking...well, isn't it also the best spec weapon for the Corp now? I think magic damage is not halved against the corp, but it's relative DPS against ranged/melee is so low (plus his magic defense) that its not worth it. BUT, doesn't that mean that the mage-based damage from the special would deal magic damage to the corp (aka, full damage, not halved) with 100% accuracy?

EDIT: best spec weapon for FFA corp I meant.

A couple things- first off, when you're chaining hits against opponents, the bonus damage appears to go out the window. I took the thing on a Bandos solo and never hit above around 300 with the spec, which I assume is because it kept chaining to the melee minion humping my leg. That makes it approximately useless for GWD.

Second, I do a lot of Corp FFA and was not impressed with the sword spec there either. It generally hit around 50 exp worth of damage, only once breaking 100 exp in over 10 specs (so I assume that it does indeed trigger the non-spear damage reduction). That places it significantly worse than the average ZS hit, even taking 0s into account. Add in the pain in the ass of switching weapons and the loss of Excalibur specials to restore overload damage, and it's not a viable option.

sara sword: 82 slash 82 strength

korasi's sword + rune defender: 89 slash 75 strength

sara sword is better

edit: if you are using void:

sara sword: 82 slash 82 strength

korasi's sword + barrows gloves + deflector: 82 slash 82 strength (plus defense)

so if you are using void with a deflector, korasi's is better than sara sword because you have a bit more defense i guess? but you give up the 2 prayer bonus, and you generally only use void when power training (where def doesn't matter)

as a primary weapon i think it's safe to say sara sword is always better than korasi's, except i guess on metal dragons and the like where you would want to stab.

can't say much about the spec

(of course rapier is better than both sara sword and korasi's).

Just used the sword on an Iron Dragon task. Was hitting consistent high damage with the spec (783 was my best) and general stab attacks.

Funny though, a player with higher stats than me was ridiculing that fact i was using the sword at metals. Yet i was destroying the dragons faster than he was with his whip. :-D

It's definitely my new favourite stabby weapon until i get a chaotic rapier at least.

I've also replaced my d'hide with the elite void. Sure it's slightly less magic defence but the +8 prayer makes up for it, in my opinion anyway.

Same, so much fun @ metal dragons! And Korasi's sword is so smexy! I wish it came in black to match my slayer cape <3:

How hard is killing her and should I bring along a Kyatt? I barely did any damage to her last night.

Like many others have said, the battle is just an endurance one instead of a damage race. My stats are somewhat similar to yours and I had over 10 rocktails remaining left and hardly touched the Brews/Super Restores I brought. They key is to know when to spec the Queen and the battle is yours, the rest of the battle is basically absorbing the attacks and healing yourself. Also avoid killing the Defilers instead let them focus their attacks on you. Towards her last 1/4hp I decided to summon my Kyatt and starting spamming scrolls and her health dropped like a rock.

In short, the killing her is easy it just takes time because of all the healing. With her high damaging move disabled due to the Sword's spec, the Queen really dosent hit that much.

I beat her on the second try without using a guide or without having the truly elite levels available (no metal titans, no turmoil).

Simply enough, I just used sara brews with super restores and a turtle full of sharks. Some key notes:

1. I pray melee the whole battle, but no piety. The Pest Queen will hit you with steady and hard shots. My gear was set to defend against magic.

2. With Protect Melee on, you need only pay attention to three things: your hit point level, using the Korasi Sword Spec on the Pest Queen when she does her side-charging pose (you have some time here!), and killing the Elite Defilers.

3. Defilers will be your largest threat here. I know some people say to let them stay alive and attack you, but i disagree. They hit HARD, yet die easily. I'd much rather keep watching for them and not plow through food. Either way, make sure you get to them very fast when they show up; they will obliterate your archers if left unattended.

4. Stay calm. As long as you look for the spec, the battle will last a long time and it is not unreasonably to never see your HP drop below 400.

There are some natural nerves that develop when the battle comes down towards the end, since I was nervous about getting killed after such an ordeal.

Once you find a system that works for you, you're pretty much home free.

Unlike Nomad's Requiem, this battle is very manageable without luck, and the quest has a nice, tight little plot and moves quickly. Lots of fun with a good award. 4.9/5 in my eyes!

I just checked that Korasi's Sword + Rune Def > Saradomin Sword in alot of ways. Is there anything about the SS that's better than that before I sell mine away?

Saradomin Sword has crush style. But you could sell the SS & buy a Zpear I guess. For Waterfiends etc.

I did it on my first try - I had Champion and Knight take everything out that had over 300HP, and made the Mage take out the monsters with 200HP (Defilers, if I remember correctly), and when she died I had my Archers take out the Torchers to protect the Champion/Other Meleers.

It's very easy. Just remember to Battle Cry when fighting a Spinner/anything over 400HP and Regenerate the Champion when it gets to below 300 HP, otherwise you might risk losing that piece.

This was my method too. Hang back, let them come to you. Since you counterattack if not killed, it's crazy to attack anything you won't kill with your first shot. The Champion is an unbalanced, dominant piece that can kill just about everything with ease. Be sure to use regenerate and it's a walk in the park.

My champion was my first thing to die, 2 ravagers came in row both did 300 damage so couldn't prevent it :P still won tho.

I'm 100% convinced that the special attack is a "true" magic attack and not just magic melee, like the ZGS or something.

Getting a lot of 500+ through melee prayer... :shades:

Awesome KO weapon and far more reliable than GS or DC on thick melee armor.

I didn't like the quest that much. For me it was short and easy. The boss fight was laughable because I used next to no food, the reward wasn't that good and I haven't found anywhere yet where I prefer korasi's sword over d claws. I had never even played a game of conquest before this quest and it took me one try.

I hope the next gm quest is more challenging. I want something that even maxed players will have a hard time with.

Slayer; it's just what I do.

I killed it first time unpotted using 1 brew (Forgot to sip ovl, noticed after I took invy when it died.) You have to be very terrible or 1 iteming to not be able to do it the first time :S

Or trying to do it without following guides.

Why do you need a guide? You attack defiler and you attack the queen, spec when it shakes

I didn't use a guide I just spammed spec restores + specs so I didnt even know a special move existed. The defilers i began to notice attacking the knights after 2 mins and then I started to get them on me. Had no clue on what to do prior to going in

I didn't follow any guides and I did it my first try. I was wearing proselyte, no turmoil, no extremes/overloads. It was nowhere near Nomad, which is disappointing.

The Void Stares Back felt rushed to me. Teleporting straight to the hide out? At least they hung a flag on it by saying it was convinient...

White, Void and Black knights, nice touch, so why did the Temple Knights get involved in the very last minute? Why did the player not attempt to keep the alliance alive?

No interaction with the NPC's involved with the quest afterwards, except for Commodore Tyr. I would have expected to at least be able to chat with Jessika/Korasi...

TBH, the one thing Grandmaster quests have in common is that people die in it permanently enough to alter the game (substitute NPC's or dissapearing altogether like Hazelmere), so it has that at least...

It took me two attempts because the first time I didn't realise that you needed to prevent her powering up and unleashing by using the swords spec. I just emptied the spec bar on the queen straight away. I teled after a while when I realised I didn't have enough supplies, cos I only took monks to see how powerful she was. Second time around I took a BoB full of brews, butthis time around I noticed the message that tells you that you need to use the sword's spec to stop the queen. Once I realised that, it was fairly easy.

Why did you expect to be able to speak to Korasi/Jessika? I expected we wouldnt be able to, for the exact reason that we had to choose to keep one of them, thus leaving some unable to speak to Korasi and some to Jessika. It's much easier just to get rid of both of them.

And what do you have against free teleports? Oo

Back in the old days we actually had to walk to the location we were needed at. Everyone is in such a hurry these days and nobody has time to take a nice walk from Ice Mountain to Taverley Dungeon while smelling the fresh, clean Catherby wind blowing through Taverley....

Im starting to sound like my grandpa...
