A facebook group against the SoF had a person post saying this a few days ago:

Spoke with Game-stop's corporate office, and also mailed out a few letters to vendors.

The lady I spoke to had mentioned "off the record" that they had just secured a deal to sell "J-Coin" cards in the next year which can be used to purchase memberships or 'other'.

Looks like we'll be seeing a lot more j-coins in the coming year.

I think he meant more uses for jcoins outside of War of Legends.

Yeah, I was missing a couple words in there. :P Posting this early in the morning isn't good for me.

Also this update pushed me towards minecraft so its not too bad

In a way you can already use JCoins to buy EXP, it costs JCoins to unban accounts banned for botting.

You make it sound like running through a few level 87 monsters is hard which it really shouldn't be at your level.

My god, for whatever reason I decide to check general discussion for the first time in year and this is what rs has become?

That's just sad.

That's probably just similar to the Game-Wallet that you could use to buy membership

"We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. We feel your status in real-life shouldn't affect your ability to be successful in RuneScape" Jagex 01/04/01 - 02/03/12

Why would they sell J-Coins for membership when they already sell membership cards?

Sony does it. You can buy $20 Station Cash cards and use them toward subscriptions or as straight up station cash. Jagex might be unifying their systems under one roof in preparation for Transformers Online which may or may not include microtransactions (Jagex has said in the past that they were looking toward such a system for future titles). Unifying the systems would also offer more publicity for War of Legends.

Jagex approved RWT. Disgusting!

Well, of course it is approved. If they didn't approve it, then they wouldn't implement it. It is their game; they can do what they want with it.

Chances are, the transformers game will most likely have some horrible microtransaction system too (though if they start that way at least it won''t be a huge hypocrisy like what they did to rs..o my poor rs...). And you can bet that I will not be a spending a single minute playing it if it is.

I'm hoping today's update will nerf the exp gain from the SoF so its at least equal to the max xp per hour you can get in skills like RC and Agility. I mean its still not ideal but I guess we have to hope they will meet us in the middle.

Sounds like no where near the middle. Why would someone pay $$ for it if it didn't give them any advantage?

Because some people don't buy spins for exp. They buy it because they can't wait to spin the Squeal of Fortune once more!

Because people definitely enjoy watching it hop from a lucky elysian shield to 50GP every single time!

Indeed! Oh, the joys of Squeal of Fortune.

I don't see why you two have to be so critically sarcastic about this...it's all for fun, isn't it? Just the other day I was *this* close to getting a elysian, and there were two up for grabs on the same spin, but I got 3 silver ore instead. But you know what? I'm happy. It's all in the fun right? The excitement of spinning the wheel. I'd take that short surge of euphoria of red and yellow lights over actually accomplishing my goals and playing the real game any day.

Wow, the sarcasm is hardly noticable... :D

A friend of mine has done over 2500 spins and has had 3 rare items, all of them being Large Lamps.

The chance of getting anything above yellow rarity are so astronomically small, the way the wheel tricks one into thinking they're almost getting something has happened to me enough times for me to know it's not going to happen.

That's why I feel the sarcasm is needed. :P

Besides, ever since the 2nd of April I have marked the SoF as 'The root of all evil'. I find very little enjoyment in it's existence.

The odds of winning in a real casino game or even just a slot machine is much bigger than anything of the odds in rs is. Set drop rate to a minusucle amount? No problem, people just kill more stuff. But to set the rates at what jagex has done to sof is just absolutely unethical, considering there is real world cost for every spin. For these odds, you are much better off just spending what you're spending on spinning on lottery tickets...eg. Winning something from powerball is 1 in 37...
