3 JoD, 3 ox head, 2 merch, 6 of each base crew.

Actually, i'd have 4 merch once you finish everything and have maxed crew, since you will only be interested in trade good missions anyways there is a good possibility that you can get 4 trade good missions at the same time.

Can't you only have one of each trade good mission out at a time? I know 5 and non-5 is possible, but you can only merchant the 5 ones, so...

If focusing on plate/lacquer, optimal crew would be 3 merchants, rest multi-talented oxheads?

I have all the PoP sets, and am only finishing up scrolls these days and getting 2nd sets. I have 4 Oxheads now and 2 Merchants. Should I bother getting a 3rd merchant? I am maxed with regards to buildings and ship upgrades. I also have plenty of resources.

Also, what's the best endgame trade goods crew setup? Right now I have 6 combat, 5 morale and seafare, 3 JODs, 2 Merchants, 1 Jade golem, 1 Sea witch and 1 Ox. Actually, that's only 24, so I probably have 1 more morale/seafare. That setup has done just fine for me so far, but I imagine it can be better.

Best trade goods set-up is 6 Harem, 4 FTR, 5 TB, 4 OHHF, 3 JoD and 3 JM.

Best all-round set-up (ie: for xp/scrolls too), is 5/5/5 rather than 5/4/6 in your basics.

Seriously? You just had two pages about this in the last week.

It's been proven time and time again. 5/5/5/4/3/3 is the best setup. Stop saying otherwise.

555433 is best overall before you max port and ship, but after that point, three merchants are hardly ever if at all needed. I'd also like for someone to tell me a reason to have more than 3 ox other than getting an extra 200 jod bonus in dual while still being able to do a triple for trade goods, because, as far as i can tell, you never need more than 3 ox for two relatively rare missions that you are not likely to have two at a time(for which you'd need 6, anyway).

Who cares... I'm just giving personal advice.

The trouble is when people ask for THE best setup you should give them THE best setup. Not your personal preference unless you clearly phrase it say it is YOUR preference and not THE best setup.

It's misleading and incorrect otherwise.

I mean if someone asked for the best Barrows run gear you wouldn't just say 'Full bronze with a rune scimitar.' because you happen to do it that way out of choice. This is the same thing, you are giving a false answer by not making clear you are giving your personal choice which you full well know is NOT inline with the mathematically proven best which they asked for.

My point is I don't care. I felt my set up works good and I'm throwing it out there regardless of what anyone has to say.

Which you are perfectly entitled to do. Issues only arise because you 'throw it out there' as a direct response to people asking for the best setup without making clear it is your personal preference. I mean how hard is it to write 'Personally I like...' or 'I like to use...' or 'I find...works well' opposed to just flat out stating your setup without context leading to the flawed representation that what you are saying is the best setup when it is not as proven by the thorough mathematical research done by others.

Questions here should be treated just as they are under H&A forum rules (as near as possible): Alternate answers should not be given without the actual answer being given. In this cause you personal preference is an alternate answer and should be prefaced to make it clear it is the case otherwise you are just misleading people when you give it as a direct answer.

Many days 3 would be enough, but there is a chance you get e.g. laqcer and chi on the special voyages(2 separate ships) and then you roll your regular voyages and get plate and bones maybe. You'd want merchants on all of them.

Nobody, oxheads are a problem, judges aren't :P.

I typically use my 4 oxheads for when I get plate & laquer normal voyages, so I can send judge + 3 ox + merch and still have an ox left for another double. I send oxheads on all doubles and triples, just like I send judges on all doubles and triples, but where I only send 1 judge per ship, oxheads are 'stackable' so an extra is nice.

This is very true. If you are giving suboptimal advice, explain:

1) Why it is suboptimal.

2) What is optimal.

3) If you want, explain why you prefer the suboptimal setup.

Especially @Urza because you said you don't care about this baseline for advice.

That's enough said about this, if someone breaks the rules, report, otherwise no need to discuss.

I personally had 2 days in a row with joint missions + scrolls. I took the scroll which didn't require a merchant, then did the other half of the pair with a merchant. I then preceded to roll 5 regular trade good missions each day. Any idea how much trouble I had completing all of those with a merchant on board. 3 is the bare minimum you should have.

Actually, with the totem upgrade, I get trade good voyages in my Standard voyage tab with startling frequency.

I don't think 3 Merchants is excessive.

Even if you're still hunting for port resources, you'll get a lot of use out of merchants.

I no longer need any Resources, just Trade Goods and Scrolls. Hence I'm changing 1 merchant to a Oxhead.

Finally had a good day at ports, got scroll voyage as one special and the other was 5 bones (too bad I have 250 of those, so I took the 25k prayer voyage). Then I rolled 5 chi, 5 plate and 5 lacquer :D. Now if that scroll succeeds I can finally use those 250 spices and start collecting scrolls for vamp scrimshaw!
