11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

Finally had a good day at ports, got scroll voyage as one special and the other was 5 bones (too bad I have 250 of those, so I took the 25k prayer voyage). Then I rolled 5 chi, 5 plate and 5 lacquer :D. Now if that scroll succeeds I can finally use those 250 spices and start collecting scrolls for vamp scrimshaw!

Oh geez I had that whole set up before and it made my day. So sad that something like that makes your day, but it did.

Well, when I'm off university because of my country's political crisis, and all I do for the whole day was play RS, kinda understandable :P

Actually, with the totem upgrade, I get trade good voyages in my Standard voyage tab with startling frequency.

I don't think 3 Merchants is excessive.

Well, i guess it's true if you do bone/spice missions with a merchant(or at all), but other than that, it's very rare for you to get enough long voyages to justify 3 merchants- i'd rather have the flexibility that the extra crewmemebers offer(particularly for when you have one or more scroll missions going).

After all the scrolls though, it'd probably be a good idea to put the merchants back at 3 again.

True, but a great thing about merchants is that their level matters very little.

Merchants are the most flexible because they're good for anything but scrolls/xp/traits I suppose, and two of those are finite :P.

After you've maxed port and ship they are no longer good for normal resources, so they are only useful for trade goods, then.

After you've maxed port and ship and crew you admittedly eliminate resources voyages as useful leaving only scroll, xp, trade good.

One of them is finite - you will get all scrolls eventually.

The other is sort of finite - xp is only useful until you hit 99 (or perhaps 200m if you want to do that)

The only one with continuing never end purpose is trade goods so they are useful in the longterm end-game.

Finaaaaalllyyyy got some plate voyages. Whaler in port, 1 Special Voyage. My immediate thoughts: Oh for [bleep]s sake, not again.

Turned out to be 5 plate :D

Sent that ship out, then immediately rolled a 5 plate with normal voyages. Managed to send both out at >85% with a merch on one of the ships.

Rolled 5 lacquer near enough right after too :D

Good day today, sent out a scroll and spice, rerolled adv, got plate and lacquer, sent them.

Then normal voyage rolled a plate and bones, which will need to wait until later tomorrow.

If all goes well, i'll have full tetsu by wednesday, and only 4 lacqures and 1 chi voyages away from full dl and ss, and 3 scrolls short.

And that's why i'm not saying 3 merchants is useless, just much less useful for the relatively long while when you've maxed everything port-wise except for scrolls. Another thing is that alot of people value xp beyond 99's, making xp voyages effectively infinite, not to mention, a merchant does not help to train your crew(as an extra crewmember would). And again, merchant is the one crewmember you can easily afford to be low leveled.

What is the best scrimshaw to make and sell?

Cruelty I'd imagine - seems to be the only one of any use.

Jagex recently manually adjusted all Port items to the price that they sold for.

So simply going by the GE list is pretty good.

But from the top of my head; Vampyrism and Tree-shaking seem to be the best. Cruelty seems good on paper till you realise nothing but Kree gets ranged by any serious PvM'ers.

What things (in Pincers if not obvious) must I build for port score? I didn't particularly care before but it looks like I have the resources to build most any buildings. I tried to go back and look but was quickly disillusioned by the bickering, lol.

Unlocked Shambling Isle this afternoon. Re-rolled a useless crew member and got Oxhead first go. Was super happy about that, no luck on the other 14 re-rolls, though. Also sent off my first trio voyage. Biologist/Convict/Missionary, the three I want for that sweet, sweet plate and lacquer.

I think the first crew you reroll after you unlock an island will always be that crew you just unlocked.

I seem to have terrible luck with oxheads... Need 4 and I'm short of one, last time I saw one was about 2 weeks ago <.<

Funny thing is, I got a jade golem while I get the last oxhead and I keep sending him on <70% missions on my only ship that doesn't have lifeboat... nope, still alive...
