jayc3399
I'm lacking chimes, is there one region that is better than the others to collect them? If you've bought all the boat upgrades your chimes will go up in a hurry, if you haven't, don't buy some for a while and focus on buying crew. 1 Quest Cape Achieved on November 14, 2007Items AcquiredCrystal Pick and HatchetBerzerker Ring x 33/28 Barrows Items

xpx
Your highest region is the best place to gather chimes :P.Best, yes, i do agree. But if you really want to be ineffective, the hook region is likely the fastest for purely chime needs. That said, you should never really go back to lower regions and it's possible to just roll 2-3 missions you need per day(the pincers is the first region you'll really have a nice surplus of rerolls). Plugpoint
Do you guys think it's better to send out a 700 steel mission that's only around 60%, or a ~200 steel mission that's 95%? I can never work out whether to go with the guaranteed small amount of steel, or to risk the higher amount and hope it doesn't fail. IridiumBunny
Expected value time! 700 * 0.6 = 420200 * 0.95 = 190. Thus is it better to go for 700, from a purely mathematical standpoint. However, if you are 200 steel off an upgrade or something, maybe you want the greater certainty.

Deletion
It's an average. For example; For the 700 Steel voyage, 60% of the time you send it out you expect to receive all 700 Steel and 40% of the time you expect no Steel. Therefore, over time, you expect to receive an average of 420 Steel per voyage.
Bearded Phil
So I'm on the Trio Missions of which I have two Quin done but I haven't gotten any new missions in almost two weeks. If you send 100 voyages at 200 steel 95%, you'll get 95 * 200 = 19000 steel. The expected value above is what you can expect to get from a voyage. Even though you can only get all/nothing from a voyage, it'll average out to the EV over time.

xpx
Anyway, having been in the pincers region for a few days now, i'm kind of rethinking the strategy of getting the rudder first. Firstly, as pincers is the last region, failing missions means more- a failed mission now gets you nothing at all. Also, if you already have good 10k captains(level 6 plus) and judges, your dual and triple stat missions will already be max speed anyway, and single stat ones will be close to it. So what the rudder effectively does help you with is the long voyages only, but you usually only do 1-3 a day(and usually less at the start of pincers). Thus i'd actually say maxing crew is the first priority in the region, and then getting the rudder whenever you have enough steel left over. I've also, for whatever reason, been very lucky with pincers crew in general, getting 8 of the 18 members i need in the first 3 days. As for resource voyages, i'm fairly sure all higher resource voyages yield, on average, more resources, but this assumes you have lifeboats(i've only got 3/4 so far). First to 99 Farming on 27. Troacctid
What I found with the rudder was that the extra speed often allowed me meaningful leeway in regards to getting the maximum number of voyages completed per day without having to mess up my schedule to do it. Without it, there would be times when I'd start a mission and be like, "Oh, this voyage is going to end an hour after I leave for work, and I won't be back until the evening." And when that happens, it's basically skipping a full voyage. Read my blog | Follow me on Twitter | Track my XP
