I think after tetsu I'm going to focus on the strength scrimshaw to finish the deal for melee gear.

It puzzles me why you'd invest so much time in melee gear when it's currently the most useless combat style for bossing. It's great for AoE crowd control for Slayer tasks, but those are far between and the cost of the armour negates much of the profit.

Personally, I'm going with Magic first. Considering all the best bosses (Kalphite King, Nex, K'ril, Zilyana) are killed with it, it seems the best option.

Tetsu's great for fashionscaping though

I initially set focus for the sea singer stuff because I wanted to sell it to MHers but after I realised how slow the gathering was going to be I decided to get fashionscape gear first.

But imo the crit scrimshaws aren't that great.

My thoughts are that we have to start somewhere. Mind you my interests lie mostly in the magic gear. I felt melee is the least costly of the styles and would be fun running around with my ornate katana. Money to me isn't an issue, but the little things add up alongside the main focal point of it being "we have I start somewhere."

The scrimshaws may or may not be worth it... In my eyes I see them just the same as the MA rings. They might not be good for regular slaying, but definitely for pvm. I think that the magic scrimshaw would put the max crit at around 18-19%.

Edit: My current gear specs out at 15.9%. Not using Virtus pieces mind you...

I went for the Seasinger robes scroll first because Magic is definitely my favourite form of combat (this is regardless of damage or effectiveness, I usually play as a magey type class for most MMORPG's), but I half way I went and completed the Gem-Mining scrimshaw because I am interested in seeing how effective it would be.

Focusing on Tetsu now, and I am rather happy now there are red on the Samurai armor, pity I can't plaint it with black decoration, then I would probably wear it and never take it off lol.

Lmao same ideals as me for tetsu and seasinger. I am fine with a red or redish orange though.

I wish jagex would make a steampunk mage set dedicated to vivi from ff9. I would be in heaven... He'll I've been trying to get "Vivi" as my character name for ages. Or a variation with his last name.

Should have my morale hull in 6 hours. Then just need the other one and all jade ship upgrades are complete. I also have all my jade crew too (except for merchant since he seems to always be bought after I hit the next zone).

Nex is best killed by range and the KK appears to be best killed by the drygore weapons, bandos is best with melee also.

Does anyone know if there's anything we can do to determing whether we get chi globes or lacquer? I had one missoin for chi ages ago and none since only lacquer (sp)

Thanks

Since adventures each collect different trade goods, the best chance of getting them is to have these trophies at icon hotspots

2 whaler + 1 bio = plates

2 occ + 1 missionary = chi

2 convict + 1 assassin = lacquer

Why the secondary ones?

I assume because by having 3 whalers will you'll end up with a lot of days where you have only special voyages with him.

Not really, you just have a bigger chance of attracting him, not excluding others and I doubt the % of increase of each hotspot is that big. (Not that it can be measured or anything so)

I have 3 for the whaler and most days I get him+another adventurer

Yesterday I got only 1 adventurer, and it was not the whaler :P

According to wikia, voyages to the pincers can't be completed quicker than 8:41 hours. The minimum speed required for this is 2760. So why would anyone recruit an explosives expert who starts at 2000 speed at level 0? Is there a need/use for this kind of crew really? I am only at the Scythe now (95%) so wouldn't know, otherwise I start training one.

Just a thought while typing: could you speed up special voyages maybe even more; I guess those are also capped at max speed and anything above won't take time off?

You need 3450 speed to cap the trade goods/scroll voyages in the Pincers to 13:02, but you can get this with the steel rudder (1800), a steel hull (600), a decently levelled 10k captain (600), and a Judge of Dice (500). So yeah, speed crew have basically been pretty much useless throughout this whole game.

However, you could consider using them temporarily just to cap out voyages before buying the hull/rudder, in the easier missions where you can afford the crew slot.

EDIT : It is quickly becoming apparent that with four ships, sending out difficult voyages (360 jade) at good completion rates is extremely difficult. Probably going to have to invest in at least 6 of each specific crew member, and somehow squeeze in the more powerful/multistat units (Judges, Sea Witch, Golem) in that mess. Might have to forgo the merchant :\

I'm having trouble sending out 3 80% voyages atm, mainly because a lot of the jade requirements are in stats i've already sent voyages out, which is a real (bleep). was forced to send out a 67% 6 chi voyage, which, knowing my luck, will fail >.<

Am i better off upgrading all of my crew then getting 4th ship? and should i put in 1-2 gunpowder seers or w/e they are called to increase random chances or not?

I have found Sea witches to be extremely usefull, not sure about jade golems dont have any so far. Judges are kickass haha

Regarding the pincers having 1200 base stat crew, seems a little low doesnt it? I mean, at this rate crew will be lvl 10 by the time I hit the pincers and will outclass them by far :P

I would advice getting all jade crew as a first thing to do, at lvl 3 they already outclass previous region crew! and they will hit lvl 6-7 really fast so its a big bonus there

I would only put random chance crew if you are already at 80-85+ :P

That may be true, but the same has been true (to varying degrees) of every region. We always had to get new crew to lvl 3-4 to outclass high lvl prior crew but in the end its worth it as they trump people. Think it's just a case moving into pincer particularly to like get 1 of each (replacing the weakest you have) then once they have a few levels and outclass some more folks get another set and so on and so forth. That way you avoid denting your possible scores too heavily in 1 swoop, but equally future proof the crew.

Don't forget that crew level even faster as you travel further east - one Scythe voyage gives enough XP to take a crewman from level 0 to 2 and a Bowl voyage takes a crewman from level 0 to 3. Investing in the new crew will definitely be worthwhile, and your first voyage into the region will be easy enough to let you sneak your level 0 crew on.

You are right that eventually pincer crew will outclass bowl crew, but we will reach pincers with 1.9-2k (?) stat against 1200.. its a huge difference..double of what it was when we reached the bowl (1300 at level 7 vs 1000 base) but yes, on pincers replacing all your crew fast will do more harm than good it seems heh.

Just failed 4 missions in a row, all for ~600 jade. Getting kind of frustrating.

2 whalers for more chance of plate and 1 bio because double adventures voyages give x2 more trade goods( so 6 plates if double mission with bio)

What does this trait do, and is it worth getting?

EDIT: Looks like +100 morale. Hmm..

It gives +100 morale.

I have two of these on a 10k morale captain. It's pretty great :D.
