December 14, 200718 yr There is one entity in RuneScape that has more secrets to hide than anything else. It is neither the Chaos Elemental, Summoning, or the gods of RuneScape, but the powers that be that created RuneScape itself: Jagex Software. We seem to talk about Jagex as if it's a mythical place on top of a mist-surrounded mountain that no human has ever managed to climb. Indeed, Jagex seems to take security very seriously and seems rather paranoid about contact with the outside world. For example, Jagex lists their employees only by their first name and an initial. Also, Jagex only communicates with players by an inbox system. Jagex claims that this is because staff members can concentrate with just one form of communication, but large companies often offer support by phone and e-mail. Also, a few years ago, Jagex staff agreed to stop posting on fan forums. I'm guessing that this is due to security issues, and to prevent staff-impersonation issues on fan forums. However, when a Jagex staff member is enjoying their free time off work, Jagex can't tell them what to do in the comfort of their own home. Is it possible that some Jagex staff regularly post here as normal players? After all, the majority of Jagex staff have a normal player account. While Jagex lists its Cambridge address, nobody has ever reported to visit Jagex. Of course, it's likely that Jagex has a policy on not allowing guests, but I find it out that not one of the millions of RuneScape players have just happened to run into Andrew Gower or another Jagex staff member. It is reported that the old-school player Snake Slava visited Jagex to prove that he did not macro, but only Jagex and Snake Slava know if this is true. So here's some questions: do you think that Jagex staff post here as normal players (and not give away the fact that they are Jagex staff)? Do you think any RuneScape players have happened to run into Jagex staff in real life? ARENAscape: Baratus [AS] max hit: 166 with Moon Battle Hammer ixfd64 [AS] max hit: 116 with (untitled spell #2)
December 14, 200718 yr I've seen Elvis at a diner. -Man, I really do love Runescape, and I'm sure if it was a real person I would of asked it to marry me by now.
December 14, 200718 yr The simple answer is no. If I worked for JaGex and was around Runescape during all my working time, I surely wouldn't want to waste my free time playing it as well. Also, Jagex only communicates with players by an inbox system. Jagex claims that this is because staff members can concentrate with just one form of communication, but large companies often offer support by phone and e-mail. This is also so stupid scam emails can be detected and so player account safety is boosted as well. It is reported that the old-school player Snake Slava visited Jagex to prove that he did not macro, but only Jagex and Snake Slava know if this is true. Snake went because JaGex thought his Russian-English translator was a macro device. He brought his whole computer to prove that he wasn't macroing to the JaGex head quarters. December 14, 200718 yr Andrew posts here occasionally, he last posted when Runescape kept crashing in the summer. It would actually be excellent if they posted here regularly. And I'm not trying to brag, but I live quite close to the Cambs HQ and I know OF someone who works for Customer Support, and it is apparently a tough but enjoyable job. All I got for you really, they are quite mysterious :| dedicate your idle computer power to a scientific project.
December 14, 200718 yr I've probably past the building when I went to Cambridge. I might go to Andrews Mums house and see if I can get invited to dinner, that is if Andrew agrees to come up from the basement

Everytime rioting 12 yos don't like the latest update (everytime) they would be able to call the company, and/or email them ...um ya....think about it, no way in the world would they open up that pandora's box of immaturity. December 14, 200718 yr Easy there, fella. All those things are pretty standard policies for a company to have. And for good reason. For instance, imagine if all the recently disgruntled players had easy access to Jagex and its employees. I think that's reason enough for the separation. Yes, which means Jagex knows what programs you're running with RuneScape open, which begs the question...Why the hell aren't they banning people for using macros if they can clearly see they have them running? Perhaps they can't tell, because WoW does the same thing, yet WoWGlider is currently ruining WoW aswell!
December 14, 200718 yr ixfd64: Do you work of Jagex and are just trying to validat your posts here? On topic: The only reason Jagex has there address online is so they can get checks ect. from members so they can pay. Just think of all the letters they are getting now because of the updates. 91% percent of the people polled said they were liers. The other 9% lied to us.
December 14, 200718 yr Call me what you want, but I parked outside Jagex's office last Wednesday morning to watch the staff go into work. I was 4-5 hours drive away from home for my interview at Cambridge Uni and I thought what the heck? :P

Occasionally an old country house might have a cellar, but most don't. I was on the verge of applying for a job at Jagex last month (hoping to get an industrial placement in their dev teams) when they actually posted a proper placement on their website. It was in customer support, paid less than regular CS and wanted you to work more shifts. No thanks. I'll go to a company that will actually teach me something useful, then go to jagex for a graduate job if necessary. Goals to get my skills back up to a barely respectable level on the high scores: Currently going for Bone to Peaches spell. It's amazing how boring doing the same repetitive task is! Stupid MTA
December 14, 200718 yr I've read somewhere that Jagex staff will play on regular accounts with Pmod ability. But still, anyone in the game could be staff. They do read fansite forums for feedback. Pixel sigs by me.Pixel Art
December 15, 200718 yr Wow I used to go to church just a few hundred feet from that address. I can't beleive I used to be so close. :XD: I didn't even know about the game at that point though.
December 15, 200718 yr @mmrmk: Just because you think you may be totally bored of the game you work on doesn't mean Jagex staff would be bored to play the game on their own time, who knows, maybe they even enjoy playing their own game. Don't generalize off of your own opinion. 10 million accounts, I think the chances are too good for someone not to have gone and visited them. if I had the money and was over 18, it would be my vacation to go and see the building.

December 15, 200718 yr Yes, which means Jagex knows what programs you're running with RuneScape open, which begs the question...Why the hell aren't they banning people for using macros if they can clearly see they have them running? Perhaps they can't tell, because WoW does the same thing, yet WoWGlider is currently ruining WoW aswell! Jagex can't afaik. Through 'Warden' - WoW can can see what processes you're running, similar to task manager. the reason WoW doesn't pick up on the majority of gliders, is because Glider doesn't call itself Glider[Caution: Executable File]. It generates a random process name each time. There's no way in hell Blizzard can prove that wo349idfopmwd-03[Caution: Executable File] is a bot. However, it can help build up a case of circumstantial evidence. Interestingly, the majority of WoW gliders are never proven guilty of botting. Warden is extremely ineffective [Especially when compared to Jagex bot detection, i'm lead to believe] and most Glider ban's are from the botters getting lazy and caught out by other players. Blizz tends to build up files of circumstantial evidence, then bans them under 'abuse and manipulation of the economy' as Gliders selling their loots do tend to have a stranglehold over the AH. I'm not sure how RS bot's work, but even if Jagex COULD see what processes you run - There's nothing to stop RSBots operating the same type of [Caution: Executable File] naming capers.
