The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion

There will be a free item shop.

You will mainly use abilities to deal damage.

Source?

Whilst the first seems likely the later seems a bit random, surely the whole point is to test the ENTIRE combat system and that includes damage output from the rebalanced weapons and armours not just what the abilities do.

  • Dear Jagex,   You guys said that you read this thread in that livestream.   Releasing EOC prematurely is the worst decision you could possibly make.   That is all.   Love, Meredith

  • I still don't like how levels only allow you to unlock abilities and equipment. Gaining a strength level should raise your max hit by a lot more than 1.

I'm still not happy that they've made skill levels so useless in terms of direct contribution to combat (attack/def rolls, max hit etc). As it is, I can actually get hit by level 2 rats pretty consist

Ice barrage? NAH TSUNAMI [bleep]ES

anyone else notice the dummy is wearing updated bandos stuff? also you can just about read what the abilities do in full screen.

Not too impressed with the action bar or the abilities, but I'm sure it'll change when I use them and theyll come out awesome nonetheless.

Did anyone feel surprised that the haemorrhaging effect seems to hit constant 500s?

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

Did anyone feel surprised that the haemorrhaging effect seems to hit constant 500s?

What effect? Must be like the bleed effect, but maybe it's like it bleeds out a percentage of the remaining health. Their test dummy was reported to have like 20k lp or something.

So Special attack is being replaced by "adrenaline".

I'll reserve judgement for the beta XD Not really liking how things drop down there...Ah well.

That visual stuff is glorious. Omg shields on your backs. Omg. Everything. Omg.

The guy who does the intro/outro for these vids soundsl ike the guy who does the commercials for BBCAmerica.

Honest opinion is that special attack was such a generic name that it had to be changed to something more refreshing and appealing to combat.

And yeah I think my original coment was moreso about the menus and such because it lacks a certain element of fluidity (which I called from Jagex, but definitely a good start). With this bit of insight I'm interested how players will push the action bars... I'm betting within weeks people will have bar 1 for food, pots, prot pray flashes and bar 2 for fast gear switches or something like that.

Having protect from melee, range, mage and soulsplit and turmoil in adjacent keys sounds so sexy... I can't wait now that I think about it. If jagex brought out complex actions of the hotbar it would break the quick prayers.

shield and sword back holstering almost makes up for not being able to wield items in opposite hands :D

Hotbars look very helpful seeing as you can add prayers/pots/equipment changes to them

Very excited to try beta now

I don't really give a squat for the name, it could be named Gigantic Testes Bar of Actions and it wouldn't matter to me. I'm mainly talking about its functions :P

It's quite obvious dear :P... Although I got a strange feeling the combat actions might be boiled down for the most part for 'efficiency'.

Wait - inb4 a skillers bar comes out. Had to say it before everyone else.

It's confirmed you can put alchemy spells on the action bar so I'm guessing remote farming or w/e is on there too.

And yes, combat actions will be checked for effectiveness. Nobody's going to shield bash a mutated veld to stun them when they are praying melee, obviously.

Tormented demon drops: twenty effigies, nine pairs of claws, two dragon armour slices and one elite clue | Dagannoth king drops: two dragon hatchets, two elite clues, one archer ring and one warrior ring

Glacor drops: four pairs of ragefire boots, one pair of steadfast boots, six effigies, two hundred lots of Armadyl shards, three elite clues | Nex split: Torva boots | Kalphite King split: off-hand drygore mace

30/30 Shattered Heart statues completed | 16/16 Court Cases completed | 25/25 Choc Chimp Ices delivered | 500/500 Vyrewatch burned | 584/584 tasks completed | 4000/4000 chompies hunted

My first suggestion is going to be the ability to move the action bar. For some reason I was expecting it to be bigger and between the chat box and inventory/quest/task tabs etc.

I dont see why they can't make it a drag and drop interface like the squeal button.

Pretty sure that shield bash raises your adrenaline, which might make it worthwhile :P

But... If all you need is air/fire/water/earth runes for offensive spells what will happen to deaths/bloods /chaos runes? Or are they just trying to turn the whole runecrafting skill into a mini-game?

I think only wind surge needs only air runes, the other surge spells might continue to require death and/or bloods.

Don't quote me on that, but I seem to have somehow gotten that from the latest vid.

Except that that wouldn't make any sense lol.

This.. could be very bad for the rune market. Maybe they rebalance other spells to need those runes? I really don't know.. Seems crazy!

You'd have to keep monsters available though, not 100% afk? And we have no idea what the xp rate would be.
